Just quickly health issues in Samoyeds: The most common is HD and PRA, otherwise they are a pretty healthy, robust breed. Hot spots can be an issue with some dogs as well as hyperthyroidism EDT, forgot something -
Perhaps call the people who had the micorchips with and ask how the process time is going? Moving these dogs around without paper work makes me a little nervous, I'll admit that, I don't want to end up with someone saything that they never signed the dogs over (I'm sure everything has been done right, I'm just covering myself ) So as it stands theyt are not yet desexed?

Please let me know what state you are in, I might be able to come and get them myself If not I can at least try to contact someone else who could take them in

I think most dogs THINK they're human anyway? i've been doing some reading and I thought I'd get some opinions... Samoyeds and lappies: people say they need a few kms run a day, some say 2 short walks but need lots of human companionship.. which is it? I can only say for Sammies but I walk mine (stuff running! ) a few km but I do this to keep myself (sadly not working as well as I would like ) and them very fit (show dogs and all). It really depends on your dog and what they want. Provided they are exercised daily and played with, allowed to spend heaps of time with you and made to use their minds (the most important part) they don't need to go hiking or running for hours on end. They are not like Mals or Sibes in ther exercise requirments. -
Wish I could bring one of the Sammies into work, they and my clients would love it. I work with a lot of elderly people and many have had to move into retirment villages and can't have pets, the photo of Mistral on my desk gets a lof of comments and then stories about dogs passed. I think being able to cuddle a Samoyed could really brighten a persons day.

I'm sure aspects of the dogs temperment would be created by breeding and upbringing but I am yet to meet an aloof Samoyed. It's just not in their nature. To be fair I have met two that were a little fearful of people but knowing these dogs I believe that to be enviromental causes rather then breeding (different lines, different owners, met other dogs related and no issues with fear). And thats two Sammies out of well over 100 so I think the odds are pretty good ;) I met a Samoyed once at a vet practise, it was a rescue, had been badly abused and yet this dog was still the happiest, sweetest animal. It's faith in humaity was touching. They truely are an amazing breed. No reason you can't bring Riddick. My Lab will be coming along as well so they can play make believe Spitz together I believe the last meet was in Centennial Park (I missed that one) We would have to organise it well in advance as most of us are pretty busy on weekends but I see no reason why not to do it. -

See I have seen things differently to Corvus about the Sammies and Lappies. The Lapps I have met have been more independant then the Sammies I know. Sammies love nothing more then being with their familes all the time, cuddles on the lounge and following you around is high on their list of fun things to do. Neither of mine really like wandering off and exploring or being on their own, they can play by themselves but we have encourgaed this trait in them for our own peace and quiet time. But then that two different takes on the same breeds The best person to ask about the difference in the breeds is Snofyre, she has/had both. All three breeds are known to be vocal, we all know this, so some barking is expected, my male Sam is far louder then my bitch, she only barks when we get home or someone is at the door. Otherwise she wont make a sound. So I really think it comes down to the dog itself. -
Oh no, not a good idea at all! Just because you mix two dogs together does not mean w=you will get the traits you like of both breeds. What happens if you get the traits you don't like, then youhave a dog you arn't happy with and it's neither fair on the dog or yourself and family.

Cool I will see what I can do. Are you in the Sydney area or would a Sydney or even Canberra show be possible for you to get too? I found that seeing a dog in a photo and meeting one can really change a persons mind on a breed. At least it did for me. I have been looking at a couple of breeds for awhile and thought I would like one but after meeting we just didn't click. And there is nothing worse then meeting a breed you love but it's badly trained, owners a bit of a tool, and so on, it can really ruin the experiance. Maybe us NSW SPitzers should organise another get together, then you could meet everyone and their dogs -

I had narrowed down the same three dogs before I got my first Samoyed. I was so close to getting a Lappie but then I met my first Samoyed in person and it was instant love. I would suggest going to a show and have a chat to owners of all three breeds and meet the dogs. There are two people in Sydney (with Sammies) I know who have pups at the moment in the ring (not real babys but still quite young), if you like I could find out where they will be next or get their contact details for you, both are lovely people. It might be a little difficult to meet a Lappie but their numbers seem to be getting bigger these days which is great! I have been to a few country shows and come across a Lappie or two Offcause my suggestion would be a Samoyed, but then that's to be expected coming from me -
My Sammies breeder and I are good friends, we work near each other so we have lunch every now and then, not to mention going to many shows together.

Labrador x 1 and Samoyed x 2 The Lab is a gundog, he is very intelligent and needs a lot of mental stimulation (a normal Lab would get more exercise then my boy does, because of his HD we exercise him lightly, no long hikes for this boy even though he would love too). Lestat is taken for light walks, on and off lead. He is regularly taken swimming Informal obediance and trick training We also have taught him retrieving in and out of water The Samoyeds are working dogs, like most working dogs they require a lot of mental and physical stilumation, not only on lead but off lead play time is also very important. Regular walks of up to 4 km Formal obediance and show training Free running time on the property Games of tugg o war, fetch, soccor and chew toys ( a huge house saver!) Hope this is what you wanted

All my dogs do it, they manage to catch their prey every now and then
-
Samoyeds, most common are HD PRA

I am!!! Well on the Sunday, I have a wedding to go to on the Saturday.
-
The first one looks like rawhide. I don't like to feed them because the dogs can chew big bits off and choke, not to mentioned being over processed The second, the Greenie, I wont touch with a barg pole. Full of crap IMO. I give my dogs bones, they like them more and their teeth are sparkling clean.

What Dried Biscuit Are You Feeding Your Pooch?

Hmmm Never heard of Nutro Lamb, shall look into it. The vet is being so vague and quite hard to get info out of. I think I need to assert the situation. Here's a link to their web site http://www.nutro.com.au/ -

My Sammie boy has had infections before resulting in crystals, poor love, but his wasn't due to diet thankfully because the monster is a fussy eater I have him on Nutro Lamb and its been great. -
My frigging Lab never stop shedding His hair is everywhere, even in my food, at work, in the car, in places he has never even been and it drives me totally insane You hug him and there is hair all over you and it's not easy to just brush off, it sticks to everything. And this coming from someone who has double coated arctic dogs aswell. Put it this way, the Lab loses more hair then two Samoyeds do ;) No more Labs for this family that for sure
