The only time mine wear collars is when we are out walking or at shows ect... I don't use collars on my dogs for a few reasons. Most important is safety, I have had dogs eat each others collars off (choking hazzard) eat the name tags off (very dangerous) and get caught on the kennel run fencing. Also with my coated breeds collars worn for long periods of time ruin the ruff of hair around the neck and I don't need show dogs without any neck hair. Way I see it is they are in secure locked kennels and are microchipped, I am happy enough with that. As for breakaway collars I have never tried them before but I hear good things about them.

Alchemy is the boss without question. She dosn't push the boys around or start fights but when she wants something she just takes it and they let her.

Questionnaire To Help Suggest A Breed Or
Bjelkier replied to kamuzz's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got those exact results too and the only one I like is the Malamute, I wouldn't go near the other breeds, really not my thing. -
There is a couple down the road from me with racing GSP's, they also have sibes. I would like to get my Samoyeds into sledding one day, should be a lot of fun

Can't Keep Weight On In Winter
Bjelkier replied to shekhina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had big issues with my ABPT keeping weight on in winter. Sleeping inside at night, always rugged, lamb flaps and necks and . . . . *ahem* Pal dog food keep the weight on him beautifully and he looked fantastic. -
Oh wow, mine have heaps of toys. I think at last count I was looking at 20 something.... This ranges from soft toys, tugg ropes, nylabones, balls, frisbees, kongs, tuffie toys and an awesome loopies monkey that screams I'm a sucker for buying my dogs toys, as soon as one dies we go out and buy another one. The love to choose them as well, it's pretty cute

Buying From A Breeder's Very First Litter
Bjelkier replied to Hemingway's topic in General Dog Discussion
I havn't but I would provided I liked the lines the dog came from. And that's what it's all about really. Just because the breeder is new dosn't mean the lines they are using are, there are hundreds of years good breeding (hopefully) back there that other people have put years of blood sweat and tears into to hopefully produce a beautiful dog. So I see no reason not to do it. As for getting paper work and all the health tests done, well even experianced breeders don't always do that, so again I see no reason not to go with a newbie, we all have to start somewhere -
Sorry to hear that Kirty and I hope he is ok. My dad has a Lab X GSP and the dog is a lunatic! Highly destructive and very clever, not a good mix. Others have mentioned a heavy duty dog run and I agree with this

I have worn jeans before, usually very dark blue or black ones if its really cold, always with a nice suit jacket. Sorry, warmth over style when you're looking at Canberra winter weather I wear both pants and skirts, just depends on the weather and my mood. And bright suits, Hate hate hate them, I have seen some that are so bright they hurt. Big no no from me.

I actually match my leads to my outfits not the dogs. Mine are black, silver and pink I have white dogs but dont really like white leads, they get so dirty.

I answered in the other thread but will answer this too. I have Samoyeds and no anal glad problems here and I have to admit yours is the first I have herd of with this problem. Not saying it dosn't happen, obviously is does, but I've never herd of it being an issue for the breed. Did you speak with your breeder about this? Have they ever had issues before and if so what did they do? Personally I wouldn't be jumping into surgery on the word of one vet. I would be getting a second or even a third opinion and make my decision from there.

Hey Sammy1 I have Samoyeds and feed a combination of dry kibble (Nurto) and freash meat and bones. No issues with anal glads here so I can't really help with that, sorry. :p My Sammies went off their kibble at that age too, we have mixed tuna brine, sardines, and meat in to make it tastier but in the end they will eat what they are given and if they don't like it, well too bad, nothing for breakfast and the same thing for dinner, the dog wont starve itself. And Sammies will push and push and push so they can get exactly what they want, stubborn little buggers. Mine all now eat their dry bikkies :D EDT, question already answered

I was snobbed recently by a neighbour with a cross breed. She asked why I had so many dogs (because three is a huge number these days....) and I said they are show dogs and I am starting out breeding. She then gives me the rolled eyes and says her dog is better and she dosnt need a fancy pedigree to know her dog is wonderful and she could go into any show and win best in show.......blah blah blah yeah, ok lady She was bloody rude! This kind of situation cuts both ways.

I clicked with the Sammies right away but it was the father of my boy Mistral who I really fell in love with. My OH is a Bullmastiff man, he clicked with them.

Personally I don't do formal show training. I teach my babies at home for a couple mins a day. It's worked well for me so far. My little girl could free stack perfectly at 10 weeks.

I could never have a one dog house. I wouldn't say my dogs are more bonded to each other then us. WE leave a good deal of time between each dog so we don't have the puppies too close in age. Also never had an issue bonding closer to the other dogs then us. Mine didn't really go threw any real changes at all, they welcomed the new family member and everything pretty much stayed the same. AS for changing our relationships with the dogs, nothing really changed except we had to divide our time up a little more between each dog.

People who get to know me well end up with the phrase, 'oh Wolfsong, she would take anything home' This isn't totally isn't true.....I love all dogs but can't live with most of them What I have found to be the most valuble when deciding on the next breed is to really spend some time with a few. There have been a good number of breeds that I adore but when spending time with them I have realised I might not be able to give them what they need or they just wont work with the situation I have. Pick what you just can't go past, the one breed that you keep coming back too . . . . and anyway, no reason you can't have one of each Our next non Samoyed will be a Bullmastiff (OH's choice), after that a Norwegian Elkhound (both his and my choice) and I am still hanging out for a Finnish Lapphund, Afghan, Borzoi and Jap Spitz, hows that for an odd mix

There is a good chance there is something up her nose. Awhile ago one of my dogs was sneezing like crazy, thought it might be something stuck in there, went to the vet and turned out it was KC.
