My mums Wei Sinta was always very protective of her when my father went away. She managed to stop two break ins during the time we had her. My Lab Lestat went crazy at a guy who was following me one night when he was only very young, thankfully the guy buggered off after that. And Mistral lept in front of me and barked like crazy one night when my neighbour walked up our driveway without saying anything and scared the crap out of all of us.

I do it quite often The Sammie's go to a lot of shows and we take Lestat along with us every now and then but most of the time he stays home. So Lestat gets taken out in the car more and goes to the park with just us but I do feel bad about it a lot of the time

Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us

That leaves my Polarbear guy in the dust! Good god! Who would do that :D -
Over my dead body would I leave the animals behind. We would get out early. Seeing as we live in a very fire prone area we have summer emergancy plans all ready to go.

I had the longest list when I first started thinking about it. I tried so many different things but it was hard, one day I liked something breed specific, other days something totally random.... But one day I bought a CD, looked at the title and thought that would be an awesome Prefix! It reflected my heritage and my love of music so it's really quite personal.

Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us
Bjelkier replied to freundhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
WTF! Surely there can't be people that stupid? I've had people think my male Malamute is a wolf (which is bad enough), but seriously Polabears??? I know, I thought they were pulling my leg. Apparently not -
Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us

Apparently my samoyeds will drop dead over summer if I dont clip them My bitch Alchemy is actually an Arctic Wolf and I've been lied too about her pedigree The Sammie are actually Polarbears, (honnestly how stupid do you want to get?) My oversized, totally wrong by the standard, BYB Lab is the best example of the breed someone has ever seen and I was stupid to desex him..... Oh and the very best (got this one the other day and havn't stopped laughing), apparently I'm twised for owning breeding dogs. This person told me it's like making my children have sex and it should be illegal  EDT forgot one -
I know nothing about training Sibes but it might be worth sending Snopaws a PM, she has both breeds and might be able to give you a better idea about the difference in training them

Ive got a dog coming in from Poland and its costing us over 10,000, the dog had to be there until he was 10 months old, boarding with the breeder, show costs, testing, vacc, re testing and vacc when one did work out right (that also meant more time in Poland) AQIS papers, flights and then quarentine

Silly People Doing Stupid Things? Vent!
Bjelkier replied to Keira&Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh I've had it happen not once but four times Each time I have been sitting in the car with the dogs (I'm in the front, they are in the back) their back window has been down just a little bit and each time asian tourists have gathered around my car and started patting my dogs threw the window They are so lucky my dogs arn't aggressive, so so lucky ;) I just stopped leaving the back windows down in truck stops and petrol stations as its always at these places it happens! -
I'm not going to answer for all breeds, just my own. I would never suggest someone shave their Sammie for summer! The double coat acts as insulation and on truely hot days you can touch my Sammie's and they will be cool, touch my Lab and the poor boy is very hot.
-
I will never tire of hearing breeders say this. Sometimes it may not be the most conventional solution, which is the greatest one. And that in turn is for the breeder to make the judgment call on NOT you.

Best Super Premium Food For Toy Sized Dogs?
Bjelkier replied to indigirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have found Nutro to be fantastic for keeping weight on one of my Sammie's. His coat looks beautiful too -
I think you might need some of those totally awesome plastic flamingo's to go with it PF
-
I agree with what Kellie does, we do the same. Without actually seeing the dog it's really hard to give any real advice. Only you know how much pain he is in. I have no experiance with shaved Sammie's personally but a friend did ask for her old bitch to be trimmed at one stage (also not totally healthy) and she came back utterly bald, poor girl cooked in summer and froze in winter (it was the first time I had ever seen a jumper on a Sammie!) She had to be kept out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, it was difficult for her and her owner.

If my OH and I ever broke up it would come down to who had the better place for the dogs. Chances are though the Samoyeds would come with me and he would take the Lab.
-
I was looking awhile back at both breeds before my OH decided our next dog was to be a Bullmastiff and I found it very difficult to choose between them. They both can be yappers, both require a good amount of grooming, both can be very sweet and friendly, neither seems to be a breed that instantly runs up and starts jumping all a stranger as though they where a long lost best friend but that's only the dogs I met and that wasn't enough to make a generalised assessment of each breed. In the end I went with colour, I already have Samoyeds so I thought why not a JS as well. I think you should head out to a dog show and meet some of each breed and make your decision from there.

It's normal, my Samoyeds do it too

What Would Your Dog/s Prefer...a Big Meaty Bone Or A Walk?
Bjelkier replied to fainty_girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hmmm hard call for us... Lestat the Lab would take the bone Alchemy would take a bone Mistral would go a walk, maybe
