No numbers for me yet either

My Sammie from Poland held it the entire trip over, the staff at the Syndey station couldn't believe it. He did pee like crazy once he got out though

Many years ago one of my Sammies was almost mauled by a Dobe being walked around a show by an old lady, it saw my puppy and lunged for her, the lady had no control and was dragged along the ground by this dog. Thank dog there where so many people around to help us out or it could have ended very badly. What annoyed the hell out of me though was when someone came over to see if we were allright and told me that the same old woman had been there the year before and her dog had done the same thing I'm of two minds about it in the end. I have only seen things go badly a handful of times with peoples dogs so I don't think they should be banned but I do think if they are causing a problem they should be made to leave.

How cute, I loved the Sibe and Afghan

The line about the breedings sometimes being an accident seems a bit fishy to me.... There's a Tigon at the Canberra Zoo. Apparently it came to them from a Circus but I dont know how true that is.

One of my rising stars, Dante. He went Baby Puppy in Group at Woodstock last weekend.

Samoyeds would have had a diet consisting mainly of deer as this was the main food source for the tribesmen they lived and worked with. They also would have eaten fish, seal, small game such as rabbits and mice, and on occasion bear. Every now and then I've been able to get venison offcuts for them and they loved it.

The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?
Bjelkier replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of my childhood dogs was a bit of a freakshow Milo was small, about 5 kilos at most. Long body but very thick set, short legs, huge curly tail that looked like it belonged to a dog about twice the size, massive bat ears on a small head, short brown coat with a black mask and he could jump like a kangaroo! I wish I had a photo of him on the computer, he was so funny, poor dear. What really takes the cake is he was sold as an Airedale -
What does your dog eat at the moment? Does he get any bones in his diet? Also (sorry to be a nit picker) but it's spelt Shih Tzu ;)
-
Sounds normal to me. She's growing a lot at the moment so needs the rest. Just watch, you will be wishing for those sleepy days back in a few weeks ;)

I wouldn't trust my Lab around a child at all! I do get a lot of people telling me they want a Samoyed because it's good with children. No, it's not quite like that, they can be wonderful with children but like any dog they need to be trained correctly. No breed is automatically perfect with kids.

I look back at how I handled my first Samoyed and cringe. But at the time I thought I was doing a great job. I was nervous, gaited him badly, didn't train him well enough on the stack, baited him too much, wasn't able to see his faults so at some points whilst I thought he looked great I was actually making them worse, didn't listen to the judge well enough and hee could have been much better groomed. I found watching those who often win helped, what do they do they I didn't? Having someone tape us in the ring was a serious eye opener, practising in front of a mirror (what was the judge seeing?) showed me my mistakes. I also found handling other dogs was a real help, picking up little bits from other breeds helped me understand my own more.

Didnt Know Bull Mastiffs Come In Blue
Bjelkier replied to memphis09's topic in General Dog Discussion
Same thing happened to some good friends of mine (Bullmastiff breeders) at a show awhile ago. Guy walks up with his pride and joy (looked like a staff/god only knows what) and says what do you think of my Bullmastiff. I'm not looking forward to this when we get our BM -
Oooh I got my lead today, its beautiful
-
I was the other person who won! Go Us!! Yay! What colours did you get? I chose Purple, Green and Gold
-
The more time I spend around dogs the less breeds there are on my list, I have learn't that many breeds just don't suit us or our lives. Currently I am at: Samoyed (can never have enough Sammie's) Bullmastiff Afghan or Borzoi Keeshond Karelian Bear Dog (need to import one into the country first)

I was informed I won a Glamour lead a few days ago in a Raffle. Picked my colours and she sent it off yesterday, I can't wait to see it!

I'm a little superstitious about what I name my animals, they always seem to live up to them so I don't like to name them anything that means something bad or a character that dies horribly. Lestat - named after the vampire character of Annie Rices books. He's blond and everyone loves him and although he has a number of health issues none of them have gotten the better of him yet and he is never sick, we joke that he's immortal. Mistral - named after two things. A character from Laurell K Hamilton series who is very arrogent and full of himself, which Misty is and a type of strom in the south of France and this dog is very much a force of nature! Alchemy - she can't really live up to her name as such. Yngvie - his name was picked by the breeder but it is an old norse name of the god Freyr and Yngvie thinks he is pretty godly Dante - is named after the character from the game Devil May Cry. We always liked it for a Samoyed being that the character had white hair and was very arrogent with a sense of humour. Dante very much lives up to his name!

Although it seems like a good idea in theory there are far too many con's for me to be interested in mystery judges. I havn't been showing my breed long enough to really know which judges will put me up and those who wont but I do know those who didn't like my dogs type, where too rough, nasty or I just didn't agree with their judging (and one of these judges put my dog up BOB and Jr in Group) and I wouldn't want to travel such long distances to find out I didn't have a snow balls chance in hell under the judge of the day. Also I have friends who are judges and I wouldn't feel right entering under them. And if some newbies are wanting to give it up after a few shows because they didn't win maybe they need to take a closer look at themselves and their dog. Maybe their dog really wasn't groomed well, didn't behave in the ring, and was handled terribly, all of these things can make a great dog look awful and then there is the possibility that the other dog was in fact better. You can't get into dog showing and expect to win everything, even the big names get dumped.

My OH and I have different taste is dogs but we compramise on what we can both happily live with. When we were looking for our next dog when my APBT died we sat down together with a dog book and went threw all the breeds listing what we did and didn't like, we ended up with Samoyeds and Keeshonds and eventually choose Sammie's.
-
I was going to go over to Poland when we were organising our import but work ended up getting in the way so I couldn't go ;) But if/when I look at importing again I would like to go O/S to see the dog myself. I would travel anywhere to get the right dog.

They have to learn somehow. I would much rather a dog destined to be PTS go this way, its not in pain and the students learn a valuable lesson.
-
I have Samoyeds, I would be worried if they didn't want to cuddle Mistral likes to lay on you, full length and put his head on your chest or shoulder, Alchemy likes to snuggle right up beside you with her head in your lap or on you somewhere, Yngvie is a smoocher and likes to press his head against you and Dante still being a baby will steal your whole lap and curl up, chances are he will still try to do that when he is an adult
-
Mistral had an op for a blockage last year. He ate a knee high sock :D The night it started causing a problem he was vomiting and very flat, didn't want to eat. Then the next day he was screaming in pain and bowing, he was also trying to go to the toilet but off cause nothing came out. He went straight to the vet. The surgery went really well and he was home the next day and has been 100% fine since. Hope your little one is ok.

Dante is 14 weeks old but he has been free range for pretty much the whole time we have had him. He would go in the puppy pen when I couldn't watch him or he needed to eat or sleep. He's not had an accident inside since he was 12 weeks old.
