Which Breed Makes The Cutest Puppies?
Bjelkier replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
Although I still think Samoyeds make the cutest pups I have to say Kuma the Akita was very very cute as a baby. -
I agree. So do I

This. Good luck to Gus xoxo I would however be demanding xrays with one of my dogs or a known garbage disposal. A thorough abdominal check didn't show up my boys blockage and it was half a tennis ball so not something small. Same as above. The only reason the vet opened my boy up so fast was because he has a history of eating things and I knew what had happened, thankfully me vet trusted me on it. Hope your boy feels much better soon.

Living In The Inner City (high Rise)
Bjelkier replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a friend who lives in Potts Point and has a young Samoyed. They seem to cope just fine. Our Lab lived in an apartment for the first 6 months of his life. He did very well in the situation but I do believe the constant walking up and down stairs to go outside effected his hips very badly. Also now he isnt too keen on going outside, he will only go out when forced, otherwise he is totally a house dog. I know it can be done but I wouldnt do it again with a large breed puppy. -
Maybe you yelling "No pee!" at him all the time and then tieing him up so he can see all the fun but can't participate? If he pees anyway after you say "No pee", then he doesn't understand the cue. Time outs are a wishy washy punishment at the best of times. I don't know how a dog is supposed to gather from a time out that peeing is not on. If your dog doesn't know how to stop a punishment he will get stressed. Any animal will. The general rule of thumb in behaviour is if a dead dog can do it then it's not a behaviour. Can a dead dog "no pee"? What is he supposed to do instead? I'm with Corvus.. "NO" means nothing to a dog. You'd be way better off to stop stressing about your dog peeing when out and about (its what dogs do) unless he's pulling on leash or doing it on people. Training will fix the first thing and a supervision and a good recall the second. Tell him what you want him to do and reward him.. it can't be any less effective than what you're doing now. Seriously, what's the issue with dogs peeing on a walk?? My dogs poo too. I pick up the poo and don't let them pee on folks lawns.. other than that, who cares? Have you got any idea how uncomfortable it is to walk when you need to go? I honnestly don't understand the issue either Just out of curiousity, how many times would your dog try to pee on a walk if you let them whenever they like? Because if my dog only wanted to do it once or twice, I wouldn't mind either. But when it's in the double digits for a walk just down to the shops, well, it just gets a bit silly. Even when the tank is empty, he still stops, sniffs and lifts his leg to try. He has off-lead activity every day. Perhaps if I couldn't offer this, I would have to accommodate more of his desires whilst on lead, but as it is, I think one toilet break on lead is sufficient near the start, and then no more until off-lead. Mine only pee a few times on walks, honnestly it dosn't take long for a quick pee and it dosn't phase me if we stop every now and then. Each to their own I guess.

This ^^ I have a house of entire dogs, male and female and no one has ever marked inside. Mistral peed on my leg once at a show, I gave him a firm nugg in the ribs with my knee to push him off balance and growled no at him and he's never done it since.

Mine just curl up next to me and go to sleep. I suspect they know I'm fine, I would think they would be able to hear my heart beating ;) Not sure what they would do if I was dead, more then likely curl up next to me and go to sleep

He's beautiful! Look slike a Jack or a Boston to me

Lestat - Anne Rice's famous vampire character Mistral - Laurell K Hamilton fae character, the storm god. Alchemy - we just liked it Yngvie - it's in his pedigree name and we stuck with it, his breeder nick named him penguin Dante - main character from the Devil May Cry games.

I thank mine

I'll admitt I'm more wary of some then others, Maremma, Tibetan Mastiff, ACD and Dobes. All four of those breeds I have had issues with multiable times and I know that it's mostly due to the owners and training or lack there off but still, I'm careful around them.
-
I have two entire males, a desexed male and an entire female here and we have never had issues. The boys get a little silly when ALchemy is in season but they are kept seperate during that time, otherwise we have never had a problem.

Although I didn't buy my dogs for protection they sure have come in handy a few times. Just recently I had a guy jump our fence and I thought the dogs where going off because my OH was home. I let them out and they went after this guy and although Samoyeds are pretty crappy guard dogs this guy ran hell for leather to get away from them.

It was cold wasn't it! Well doen to your girl. My two rising star boys did well at Yass on the Sat with my baby puppy Dante getting 1st in Sweeps out of a big class and then Baby Puppy in GRoup and my older boy Yngvie going BOB

One of my Sammie boys had a blockage last year, cost us about $1500 to get him all fixed up, he also stayed over night during the weekend. Hope its nothing too serious.
-
I could never got out of Sammie's, they are just so perfect for me but I and my OH want a few other breeds eventually. Our next non Sammie is a Bullmastiff, hows that for a difference! And we have been waiting for one for over a year now and thee=re is a good chance it will be a few more years before we get one, the breeder we like dosn't breed much but their dogs are so lovely that it's worth the wait.

What Shampoo Is Best For An Itchy Dog?
Bjelkier replied to PuddleDuck's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This ^^ We also use the Groomers Royal Jelly, it seems to stop Misty's itching and it helps give him a beautiful thick coat. -
I'm so sorry
