argh the white fluff everywhere. Can't say it's ever bothered me Sam Man. Just one of the things you deal with to have such a fantastic breed ;)
-
One of the jobs the first Samoyeds had was to sleep with their owners in the tents to keep them warm in Siberian winters. This breed is hundreds of years old, so dogs inside on the bed isn't exactly a new concept  I for one am happy to have the dogs sleep with me provided they get off if I ask them.

Although I don't agree with all of it (ie the short email going in the bin, that's just rude) I do think it's generally very good.

I think people are helping, they are saying that there are a lot of breeds that might not be suited to this living situation. Maybe the OP friend needs to look at the situation they are in and make the wiser choice to either change what they are willing to offer a dog as a family or not get one until they can provide a more fitting home.

Yes Samoyeds can be great with kids but I would never suggest one that was to live in this kind of situation.

Please don't let him get fat, Samoyeds should be nice and lean, they can get serious health problems being fat He must be a pretty big dog if he's very very underweight and still 24 kilo! As Sinta said try contacting the states Samoyed clubs to see if anyone knows him but without a birth date, microchip or any paperwork I don't know that you will have much luck. I really can't tell if he's a pedigree or a BYB boy. Best of luck finding him a home.

Nylabones are very popular in this house too

Don't get a Samoyed: * if you want a wash and ware dog * if you can't handle a lot of hair around the house * if you want a dog that likes to be alone a lot * if you can't handle a bit of barking or talking * if you arn't prepared to do much mental or physical exercise * if you don't want a dog that will challenge you * if you don't have a sense of humour!

No such thing as a doggie no go zone in this house.

Chiro/muscle Manipulator - Canberra?
Bjelkier replied to stonecutter's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use Allan for the Samoyeds and we have been very happy with him so far. -
Thanks Bjelkier, how long ago did you transport your dog? My flight path is flying out of Poland: Warsaw - Prague - Dubai - Melbourne. It was around this time last year. Our dogs flight path was Prague, Seoul and Sydney
-
I paid $4815 for an adult Samoyed. However we did have to get our dog driven to Prague because Poland wouldn't fly a dog out and I think that was roughly an extra $500 on top of the flights.

Take it from someone who bought a badly bred Lab (we wonder if he is even pure), it's never worth not going to a good reg breeder! My Lab has severe HD and at 6 months old we thought we would have to put him down, he couldn't walk. Thanks to a wonderful vet and a lot of work by us he was able to build enough muscle to walk but he will never live to a ripe old age, he's 8 now and he's not good anymore. He has renal failure, he's going blind and he is not walking very well, we don't think he will make it to the end of the year Please go to a good reg breeder who does all the relevant health testing. Also with both breeds perhaps go to a few local shows and meet breeders and dogs of both breeds.

Thank you ladies :) Bowral is looking like the way to go at the moment. I was very happy with the help I recieved and one of the vets was kind enough to give me a ring to explain the process and how they would go about the insemination. Great service so far.

Thankyou Miranda, I'll look into that.

Hi guys. I'm getting ready to mate one of my girls in a number of months and we will be doing frozen AI (before anyone asks I'm doing an AI becuase the dog isn't in Australia, believe me I would much rather do a natural if I could!). Now my mentor has never done a frozen AI before so I'm looking for a little advice on vets in the Sydney/Canberra area. I've been told the vets at Quakers Hill and Bowral are both good but I would like a little more info from more people before I make a final decision. Has anyone used either vet, were you happy, not happy etc? Any other info anyone could give me about getting frozen AI's done would be more then welcome. And any recomendations of transport companies for the semen would be awesome, thanks :)

Do You Refer To Yourself As Your Dog's Mum/dad?
Bjelkier replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
I call them 'the kids' and my OH and I called each other mum and dad when talking to the dogs. Dante's breeder calls herself Granny and our close doggie friends are always aunty and uncle  -
Poor old girl. Wish I had the space for her here
-
Does anyone have a rough idea how much it costs to get semen over from NZ? Thanks :)

I never used OMG as a volumiser, just as a general grooming spray. Plush Puppy volumising creme and Isle of Dog thickening creme are both good. Also Chris christensens thick and thicker srpay is great.

Hi Jonny. I would be wary of the all classifieds add, sounds like a puppy farmer or BYB to me. The last thing you want to do is rush into getting a puppy from a dodgy place. I know its hard waiting for a puppy from a good breeder (believe me I've been waiting 2 years for my next girl!) but you will be much better off if you do :) Have a good look at the breeders on the DOL listings. Although most arn't near Canberra it would be worth contacting them and talking about upcoming litters. If you want breeders within easy driving range I'd be looking at Sydney with Apolar, Anaky and Arcticlight, all three have lovely dogs. Good luck finding your puppy :)

Experiment: Do Australian Dogs Recognize A Coyote?
Bjelkier replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Lab didn't pay any attention at all. The Samoyeds all looked and titled their heads and then totally ignored it.
