  1. Fantastic results! Congrats :D
  2. What was the reason why you stopped training your dog? It was a combination of getting bored and showing most weekends. I could go during the week but with everything else I have on and the drive it just wasn't going to happen. Do you feel your dog is well trained enough? For what I am doing with them at the moment and general day to day living, yes. But if I want to do other activities with them I will need to do more training. Did you not get results from previous training attempts? I actually did very well with my first Samoyed and we often came in at the top of our class. Is training too far away/ too often/ too expensive? Yes to being too far away, no to the other two Are you simply too busy? Yes Did you find training boring? Yes. Trying to keep a young Spitz interested for such a long time gets difficult and frustrating, I could see him getting bored. Also I find obedience training about as interesting as watching paint dry. What would prompt you to start training again or would you not start training again regardless? Nothing. Any training I would do with my dogs I'd do at home or with friends.
  3. Yes, my German Shepherd has always had white muzzle I also want to add that most people here who are saying their dog is old - have a 15 yo dog, mine is only 10. For what it's worth my old boy is only 10
  4. I agree with others, too sensitive. I have an older Lab who has just started looking his age and I do get comments about it. But I'd hardly say it's nasty. We have also had to keep him very lean because of severe HD and I've had so many people tell me he's too thin, he's starving, I'm cruel to keep him that way. Now those comments are insulting. And after loosing my beautiful 4 year old Samoyed earlier this year, well, I'd much rather have had him live to a ripe old age and have people comment on it then to not have him at all.
  5. This ^^ 100% Ain't that the truth.
  6. 6 weeks is too young for any breed not just toys. Is the breeder registered?
  7. I have so many goals for my dogs  I want to breed beautiful, healthy dogs with sound, correct temperaments that make wonderful companions/show dogs/working dogs. I also want to have dogs that can title in the show ring and still perform the tasks they were originally bred for. When my current show team gets a bit older I would love to get them out herding, sledding and getting their ET title.
  8. Exactly. I waited years for a dog from the right breeder and I couldn't be happier. From your posts it sounds like you want one now and aren't really willing to wait for the right puppy to come along (I'm sorry if this isn't the case). I could never recommend a BYB. One of my first dogs was from one ad she died from a genetic condition at 10 weeks old, it was the most horrible thing I have ever had to see. Please wait and find the right breeder who does all the relevant health tests.
  9. I will bend over backwards and every which way for a Saluki or an Afghan. I won't for other breeds and mixed breeds. As we are a wide and diverse community I don't see a problem with that. Resources are finite, rescuers have different expertise, and people prioritise as they see fit. While his age was a factor, I'm sure the fact he was a pure bred Gordon was also a factor. It doesn't mean that his life is worth more than any other life, but this is a pure breed forum, and given the ethics many pure breed people live by, it's bothersome to see any papered dog wind up in rescue, and many people (including myself) tend to put out more effort to "clean up after our own". I agree completely with SSM.
  10. The coat does act as an insulator in warm weather too. Mine stay outside a lot in the warm weather and it doesn't seem to bother them at all.
  11. He looks like a dog I had as a child, even the markings on the face. I think PF is right, total mix of the most common local dogs.
  12. Samoyeds feet are designed to cope well with snow with flattish toes and profuse hair growth between the pads they act like built in snow shoes.
  13. My old Lab refused to come out. He sat beside the heater in the bedroom watching them from the window
  14. The Samoyeds got a treat yesterday when it snowed. They had an absolute blast. I'm just glad I was home to see it and my hands didn't shake too much when I was taking the pics, it was freezing.
  15. Vanish Preen Oxi Action spot cleaner is fantastic for getting vomit stains our of carpet.
  16. I don't have collars on my dogs at home either. I don't like the mark it makes in their coat and I worry about strangulation after a friends dog hung herself from her collar Mine have all their tags on their walking collars but that's it.
  17. Lots of good vibes for your girl. Fingers crossed it's just an infection. I always think the absolute worst myself I know how stressed it can make you
  18. Lestat sleeps all the time. It's actually hard to get him up and go outside. The Samoyeds though are pretty active most of the time.
  19. Fingers crossed for some good news
