  1. One of our girls decided she wanted to eat rocks occasionally. We noticed it first when she had an xray taken when she was pregnant. Never did her any harm and she always got them back out. We've since had the gravel area paved over.
  2. Lestat - Blondie or oldman Alchemy - Allie, Al, Gothica, Cookie, Weasel Beowulf - Wolf, Wolfie, Wolfboy, Bay, Baby Bay, Bay Bay, Tank Daenerys - Dany, Dany Witch, Antichrist, Witch, Witchy Woman, Pocket Rocket Dante - Dman, DD, Furious D, D licious, Captain Perfect Seti - Set, Puss and you f-ing bastard Ahti - Squishy cat and fattie
  3. I certainly wouldn't complain if a neuter got it. The only thing I could see being a difference would be coat. In my breed the neuters do tend to have the bigger coats.
  4. So true. I have a Lab and Spitz breeds the the temperaments could not be more different! If you want something more like your Lab I'd go another Lab or a GSD
  5. Mine are fed much later and they usually eat it all. I on the other hand usually lose my appetite completely when it's hot.
  6. I actually find the soft crates get hotter then the usual metal ones or trolleys.
  7. The Samoyeds actually cope better in the heat then I do (I say this on a mid 30s day and two of the Sammys are trying to snuggle up with me on the lounge WTF? ) but my cut off is generally anything over 35. Dry heat is easier to handle then a really humid day. As for what we use to keep everyone cool. Silvermesh sides (best invention EVER!), a fan for each dog, cool beds and ice water.
  8. This ^^ A friend recently had major issues with her bitch's pregnancy and the first and only sign she got was the girl was a little flat and she was off her food. Prog levels dropped dramatically and to cut a long story short she lost the litter, the bitch is now desexed and she has a $7000 vet bill. I'd be taking her in for a check. Better safe then sorry.
  9. These look like pictures from a Professional shot! Sammy's a fast becoming my second favourite breed, WOW, just stunning, absolutely stunning! Thanks Donatella, those are just happy snaps! I should put up the good pics I've taken :D
  10. Very pretty. I would love something like that but keeping the Samoyeds out would be impossible
  11. I have a couple of young kids here who were in the 2012 rising star and have just gone into Minor. But as I had a hip injury for most of the year I've only shown them a tiny little bit this so they are still my Rising Stars :D Apolar Nordic King OSkyforger - Beowulf Apolar Nightwish OvSkyforger - Daenerys
  12. My Samoyeds sound really aggressive when they play. I've never tried to stop them. They're having fun and I know no ones getting hurt.
  13. Those shampoo shower head things aren't great. To wash a Samoyed well you need a good deal of water pressure to penetrate the coat. You'd be better off getting one of those removable hose/shower heads for the tap of your bath. Blankets are all very well and good for some breeds but it's summer and you're getting a Samoyed. The pup will most likely want to sleep on the tiles of your kitchen or bathroom. Even in winter most of my dogs have no interest in dog beds and will sleep on the floor. Don't get anything too woolly or plush, a nice cotton mat will be fine. Grooming tools you will need are a wide tooth collie comb (most of your grooming will be done with this) a good slicker and a pin brush. You will also need a dryer and to save your back a grooming table is often a good idea (take it from someone who was too lazy to get the table out yesterday and combed out my boy.....my back is killing me!) Samoyeds can be very mouthy dogs, be careful about the toys they have. Nothing that can be chewed off like eyes, ears, tails, feet of toys is a good idea. Tuffie toys My link are brilliant for Sammys if they like plush toys mine are still trying to destroy one toy I've had for years. Also nyla bones and kongs will save your house from being eaten! Oh and tug ropes, all my Sammys love playing tugg with us. Also look a getting a little fan that you can angle to hit the floor while the puppy is in it's pen. I have found it helps them sleep when it's too hot and they can't get to a cooler stop in the house. And a clam shell pool. Fill one side with sand and the other with water and your Sammy will be happy for hours! I've never known a Sam that doesn't enjoy digging so giving him somewhere to dig is a great idea (saves your garden!) And lastly photos will be required in the Sammy/JS thread when you get your new baby :D
  14. I don't think I've ever unbonded with a dog but I've certainly not bonded with a couple. My old Lab and I have never been close, he's just not a breed I've ever had interest in and my eldest Samoyed bitch, we've just never really found common ground.
  15. I have 3 related dogs here. Full brother (Beowulf) and sister (Daenerys) and a half brother (Dante), all have the same mother. I bred the full siblings and brought the half brother home at 8 weeks. All dogs have been raised in the same way. Dante and Daenerys show common traits of their mothers line, they're also the closest out of all 5 of our dogs. Yet Daenerys has a few of little quirks that are very much her father, such as eating her breakfast lying down  Beowulf is unlike any of his siblings or his parents. I've met his maternal grandparents and I've known quite a number of dogs from his paternal grandmothers line and he's not like them either. Physically he looks the most like his paternal grandfather but as his father is an AI I'm unable to say if he's the most like him behaviourally or not. It will be interesting to see what these dogs produce later on.
  16. I've been thinking about a second breed for at least a year now but now that I've found the breed I'm happy with and lines I like I'm willing to wait as long as I have too to get the dog I want. I'm extremely fussy about what I like in this breed so it could be awhile
  17. I don't think anyone would think that of my Samoyeds. But my puppy farm Lab is a different story. He has a lot of issues he's afraid of children, asian men, disabled people, fishing rods, the list goes on. Yet we raised him exactly the same way as the others.
  18. To the OP, I'm not too sure there is much more you really can do. If these people don't want to listen they wont. My brother has decided that his BC (very possibly a x who the hell knows) bitch should have a litter 'because she's a nice girl" and he asked me what sort of dog he should find to make 'cute puppies' with her. When I refused to help him he went out and found a Lab x male....... I spent months trying to get him to desex his dogs but he refuses. I told him about the issues I had with my recent litter, the money, the c section due to uterine torsion, no sleep, helping the weaker puppies along, the destruction to my rental house when they ripped up carpet, my friends bitch who had a uterine rupture and she almost died (now she has no puppies, a bitch she can't show or breed again and a $7000 bill ) etc but he wont listen. I hope you have better luck with your family than I did with mine.
  19. I went with them a couple of years ago and it took over a month to get them back.
  20. All my dogs have their favourites Lestat - his duck, Quackers the 10th Alchemy - her stuffed Monkey Dante - Simba his chewy lion king toy. It was the only toy that survived puppy stage. Beowulf - a small stuffed white dog with no eyes, Grendal Daenerys - her three headed squeeky dragon, Mr Dragon (Yes I also name my dogs toys ) edited - forgot about simba
