I spent a lot of time googling prefixes when I was looking for mine. If the name is used for a kennel overseas I believe you can't have it either. I got my first pick.

You made me curious. I googled the American Kennel Club's listings of the most popular breeds in their major cities. Here's the listings for New York City for 2011 & 2012. Very intriguing, they say the Labrador Retriever has taken top spot in NYC, from Yorkies who've dominated in recent years. http://www.akc.org/reg/topdogsbycity.cfm?page=1#NewYorkCity Have a look at Newark above NYC for a mention of Havanese. I was only going off what Havanese owners in NY tell me and they seem to believe they are some of the most common dogs there.

I'd be more concerned with the larger breeds. I'm pretty certain it was the huge amount of stairs in our second floor apartment that made our Lab puppies hips worse It certainly didn't help the issue
-
I wonder what are the top apartment breeds in New York and Japan? When i visited NY, it was dogs everywhere! Which i loved. Good luck on your move. I'm pretty sure the most popular breed in NY at the moment is a Havanese.

Tips On Finding A Breeding Female Beagle

I'm a Samoyed breeder and although I do know some people whose dogs live in apartments it's not something I would recommend unless you were really super serious about putting in a lot of work, time and effot it could be hard for both you and the dog. And honestly I would be hesitant to sell a Samoyed puppy to live in an apartment with only an hr exercise a day as many Sammy breeders would be. You say a BC wouldn't be suitable, well Samoyeds are a working breed too and need space to run and play while they grow. They can be extremely vocal and destructive when bored, in fact I've known them to eat through walls and concrete paths, rip up carpet, eat doorframes etc. If you're after a spitz what about a German or Japanese Spitz or a Pom? All lovely dogs who are more suitable to living in apartments. Or for something different perhaps a Havanese?

Too Far You Have Taken This Dog Grooming.

I really don't see the issue with it. It takes hours to fully bath and groom my Samoyeds and Havanese and that's just normal show grooming. I fail to see how it's cruel if the dog is correctly trained to except/enjoy it. -
Hi Nerissa Have you contacted any of the breeders listed on DOL yet? http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/samoyed.asp Just a tip but if you are wanting a show quality girl be prepared to wait for quite awhile as breeders rarely give up their best bitches (we tend to keep them ourselves ;) ) I've been waiting for the perfect bitch to add to my breeding program for the last 4 years. Believe me it can take time if you want the best. Good luck in your search.

Oh Lhok I am so very, very sorry I too lost a dog at such a young age and it is utterly devastating. Sending you and the family lots of love. Run free Raiden

I think have a good think before PTS if you love the dog so much. Build a dog run for him when he's outside with a padlock on it, and when he's inside he should be in a large child proof crate. Any welder or engineering place can make one for you out of fine mesh fingers cannot get through. I think the advice you have been given personally is not what I would give, nervy dog or not. I don't think this comes from a place in the pack, it's an already unsure dog more unsure and noone guiding him in definite no no behavior. I'm not saying push the child in the dogs face at all, but the dog needs to know life is now like this, cope with it. Run to crate and back, only by you and both padlocked. The dog can have one on one time with you when the child is inside or in bed and the dog is attached to you. I would try something different to at least make the dog less reactive towards the child. You cannot make a dog like or love something, but you can teach is what is acceptable or not and at least the dog learns if it feels threatened it backs off from the child and goes to an adult or it's crate in case of emergencies. It can be done, I wouldnt give up yet on the dog. Very good advice IMO.
