Max Temperature You Walk Your Dog In?
Bjelkier replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
I only ever go walking at dawn or dusk. If the sun is up we don't go. Just because the samoyeds want to run around in the heat doesn't mean they should. -
You Care More About Your Dogs Than.......
Bjelkier replied to Dory the Doted One's topic in General Dog Discussion
All but one of the most important people in my life are dog people anyway so they totally get my loyalty to my pack and the other one is my mum and she loves them in her own way (doesn't understand my addiction but bless her she tries) and always asks about how they are going and worries when one of them is sick. I can't say I'm overly interested in even knowing people who try to come between my dogs and I. They're my family, end of story. -
My 14yr old Lab has nubs for teeth and I swear he gums large marrow bones to nothing these days lol. Seems to enjoy them as much as ever

How To Tell If My Dog Is Going Deaf?
Bjelkier replied to Lady Flying Furball's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Lab is going deaf. He's almost 13 so it's not too much of a shock and he's handled the decline really well. The only issue we have is getting his attention when he's asleep or down the back of the yard but he can still hear me calling him at dinner time lol -
What Is The Worst Thing About Your Chosen Breed?
Bjelkier replied to Steph M's topic in General Dog Discussion
Samoyeds- Eating things they shouldnt ie toys, socks, rocks etc. The breed is notorious for it. I know so many owners who had their sammys at the vet for blockages. -
I would assume this to mean one of the best male pups in the litter. Probably not the show pick aka pick of the litter but one that was fairly close. Whether or not this is the case would be a whole other kettle of fish however

Build a dog run for heaven sake..... At least contact the dogs breeder as they very possibly would take him back.

I wouldnt say the shiba is aggressive. I'd say she's had enough of the poodles s**t and is telling her to back off. Your dogs have been through a lot of changes in a short time, I'm not surprised this has happened. Can the dogs not come inside and get the walks they used too? And seperate the shiba and the poodle.

I have Netflix...adds aren't a thing in our house these days. However Yukari frequently watches tv. She was quite enjoying The Borgias with me recently.

I would be looking for a good trainer to help out. I had a head halter for my Pittbull boy and I can tell you it didn't do a damn thing to stop him pulling if he wanted to go somewhere badly enough and he was able to wriggle out of harnesses no matter who fitted them. Best thing for him was a check chain.

It's very normal for a breeder to choose which pups go where. I've had a few puppy people bulk at this and well, sorry but coming and meeting a pup and forming a 'bond' is total BS. So often puppy people will come along and say I like green puppy, he is bonded to me. What they don't realise is green puppy is a very bold puppy who has bonded with every single person before them and will be a holy terror to live with in certain situations. And in my case pet people always fall for the show pup, which naturally is heading to a show home. A breeder friend of mine had one puppy person who had "fallen in love with pink girl" and wouldn't take any one else, she was certain that pink girl was totally bonded to her. So when the lady came over to take the pup home my friend took all the coloured ribbons off and said "Right, which one is pink girl." The lady chose purple, the one my friend wanted her to have in the end. Let the breeder choose. We spend hours and hours of time with our puppies, we know them the best and know what kinds of homes they would be best suited too. Makes sure you talk to the breeder and tell them exactly what you want in a puppy.

I'll bet any money he was on something and thought it would be hilarious. What a tool. Would have lost his precious member if he'd tried that with my dogs.

How Many Times Has Your Dog Escaped?
Bjelkier replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
Never, thankfully! -
It very well could have been a TM. I've seen some very small ones around recently.

I thought I was going a little stupid fpr a moment lol. Lovely Tibbie

A couple of years ago a specialty judge came out to judge our club show and she pulled a number of exhibitors up on the condition of their dogs, pointing out that this is a working breed and should be in top condition at all times. She dumped the fat dogs. I would say a good number of my breed are fat, people often think it's substance or a way to fill the dog out so it looks like it has more coat. They win on occasion but wouldn't be in our top winning circle.

In the Prius the seats are put down and the gazebo is put to one side or across the back of the front seats and the dogs sit either next to or behind it. The same way theu would travel in that car without the gazebo. In the ford the gazebo goes in the boot and the dogs are on the back seat.

Pet Friendly Accommodation With Chickens
Bjelkier replied to raineth's topic in General Dog Discussion
My samoyeds would try and kill them without question. They've been known to catch bird out of the sky. -
Oztrail compact fits in my Prius C and the boot of my Ford Falcon with all the other show gear.

All but one of my puppies went interstate and I don't have a rare breed.

You should be fine. :)

There may be snow in Captains Flat, about 30 mins from Bungendore, which could make it interesting for me to get to the show actually  Rug up for Bungendore, it's always freezing cold, one year it was sleeting all day and so windy.

Our Newfies and the ones I had the most contact with were pretty biddable dogs, didnt take me long to have my show girl well trained. I wouldnt call them a stubborn breed, not like a spitz or a hound.

I don't know if a bit of drool is an issue for you but what about a black Newfoundland? I'm also allergic to short coated dogs and double coats have always been ok for me. They do require a bit of grooming and do shed like double coats are prone to doing however they're great family dogs, they're large, have a huge bark and look very intimidating while still being fairly easy dogs to deal with, at least easier than the breeds you originally mentioned. We used to have them and so many people freaked out seeing Evie and Tessa at the front gate, the girls wouldn't have done anything but they didn't know that. Regardless of what breed you're looking at I would suggest heading down to a show in your area at some stage and meet the dogs to see how you react to their coats and have a chat to the breeders/owners.
