I totally agree with this. Fritz is going to be a strong boy so I'd be getting this sorted before it gets any worse. Until then crate them before you start getting dinner ready and seperate when they have food toys and always remove the toys once they've used them.

I honestly don't understand either. I spent my morning sledding, you couldn't pay me to go to one of their events.

How Long Did It Take For You To Be Ready For Another Dog?
Bjelkier replied to ro11's topic in General Dog Discussion
I lost my boy Mistral 2 weeks before I had a litter due, I had to be ready. It was actually a good thing for me, I took his death badly and having the litter take up so much of my time I was able to get over the loss of his passing. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Everyone deals with loss and grief in their own way. -
I have three bitches and no issues so far. In the past I have been forced to re-home one girl from totally different lines to my current girls and she had issues with every other bitch she met. Both her mother and grandmother have the same temperament so I wasn't too surprised when my girl started having a go at others.

My Lab wears his pretty much all day once it gets cold (I do live near Canberra though so it's freezing) but he's old and has very bad hips. He didn't wear them as a young dog however and he also loved running around in the rain. Labs are pretty tough, I don't think getting a bit damp in a QLD winter will hurt him too much ;)

Breeding For "performance", Not Show
Bjelkier replied to JRT Lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would hazard a guess and say the reason a number of top show dogs don't have woeking titles is its simply too hard to do both. It takes a lot of time and dedication to title a dog that far. For what it's worth there are a lot of samoyeds who excel at both and there isn't an obvious divide between working and show dogs. -
I choose the puppies for my pet buyers. I get to know my puppy people very well before they buy their puppy so I usually have a good idea which pup would suit them. I've picked some of my own puppies and I've had others chosen for me. I'm happy enough for the breeder to do the picking. I can always decline if I have an objection to the puppy for whatever reason and find someone else.

Kinda freaks me out a little to be honest.

That's so funny. I've lived in canberra for close to 20 years ( wow this post just got depressing lol) and I've never seen a beagle being walked around or know anyone who owns one.
-
Well I'm in the country so the most common breeds are working dogs. However I know there are Rotties, Dobs, Labs, Newfies, Akitas ad other Samoyeds in the area. There is one little oodle thing that is forever getting out and annoying everyone. I have noticed there are quite a few pure-breds in Queanbeyan where as I almost always see x breeds in Canberra.
-
We have more than enough breeds already in this world to fit pretty much every purpose required by man kind IMO. Instead of encouraging mongrel breeders I'd like to seen more rare breeds from other parts of the world given a chance so we don't loose them and more education and advertising for pure-breds for the average pet person so they know there are other choices out there.

Aggression Between Dogs In The Same Household
Bjelkier replied to Salukifan's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've only had minor spats with the samoyeds, mostly when the girls are in season and my males are grumpy. It's always just noise and they spring apart the moment I grumble at them. We did have issues many years ago with my OHs kelpiexstafford and my APBT. The cross bred bitch was the issue, savage little monster she was. She'd attack anyone and anything. -
I use mine all the time for shows/house training/when we travel/keeping the dogs separated when someone is in season or injured etc. I don't believe dogs should be locked in them all day however a few hours here and there, I see no issues.

Canberra Sled Dog Club - Beginners Day

What a shame I'll be at a show that weekend. My two eldest boys would love that. -
A friends little dog had the same problem and had surgery to remove the femoral head. He recovered well and was up and running around soon after the surgery. He still has a little twist/skip in his gait occasionally but it doesn't bother him at all.

My samoyeds always do it

What's The Worst Reaction Somebody Has Had To You Dog?
Bjelkier replied to dididog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can't say I've ever had a bad reaction to my Samoyeds, usually I'm trying to stop people from smothering the poor dogs with affection. When I had a APBT however the reactions were very different -
