  1. Mine all know the sound of the xbox switching off
  2. My top picks would be the Karelian Bear Dog (which I got to meet while in Finland recently ) it's a breed I've been in love with from afar for many years and getting to meet some was pretty special. And the Yakutian Laika (which I also got to meet as a friend of mine had recently bred a litter, so many cute puppies!)
  3. My first Sammy was bought as a pet and when he was around 7 months I mentioned to the breeder I was interested in showing. He assessed my boy and said he was good quality so changed the papers over to Mains.
  4. I have three girls here who have been nick named 'the coven' for a bloody good reason. If someone has done something naughty you can bet one of the girls is behind it. If I didn't want to breed I wouldn't have girls at all, I'd take bys any day. So much easier and less moody, not to mention far more affectionate.
  5. I do the same as most others. Get pup home and put them in with the big kids. I've never had a puppy hurt the entire time.
  6. Aren't arctic breeds fun. They're so very good at making their own entertainment when they're bored. I can only echo what Persephone has asked. What kind of physical and mental stimulation is he getting?
  7. Yes, all the time from my fathers side of the family and my brother. They're "get a mutt from the bloke down the street" kind of people and the amount of money, time and effort I've put into my dogs is an endless source of tension between us. However I won't deny I judge them as well for buying mutts, not walking them on lead, letting them breed whenever and being general shit dog owners, so I suppose it goes both ways. I don't speak to them so much these days, it's peaceful.
  8. Male Sammys are bigger and usually more sooky, the females can be more aloof at times. I prefer the boys but they do often have more coat than the girls. Sammys do have more coat than a sibe do grooming takes a little longer sometimes as well. They cope with the heat well provided you give them shade and they also love water so little clam shell pools are often popular. Price wise you're looking at around $1500 - $2000 from a good breeder and you should have hips, elbows, eyes all tested in the parents ( make sure you see the actual official scores and don't trust people on their word. Some breeders lie) and the pups should all have been tested for liver shunts before going to their new homes.
  9. Lestat - His love for life, nothing gets this guy down, ever Dante - His sweet, gentle nature and absolute insane love for showing with me. Beowulf - Absolutely everything, he's perfect IMO :p Moomin Mamma - The way she mothers everyone, ALL.THE.TIME! Freyja - Her cuddles, no one hugs like Freyja Dresden - The way he follows me like a shadow, that little dog just gets me Yukari - This kid pretty much hits perfection as well. She's a special little lass
  10. I have the same issue with the Samoyeds. The only way I was able to keep water around was fill a horse trough or clam shell pool and eventually they'd get bored and leave some water in the bottom.
  11. Fish oil tablets have worked the best for my lot. They're easy to find at most supermarkets and I taken them myself and they have no fishy taste.
  12. My dogs went from stock fencing to wooden pannels on all four sides that theu can't see through and they've never been quieter. It's great.
  13. My Samoyeds are hopeless. They insist strangers cuddle, pat on the head and talk to them. Almost every night one of us will end up covered in samoyeds who demand being held as though they're cats..... As a general list it's good, especially for kids and new owners but I know many dogs who enjoy things they apparently shouldn't.
  14. I've been using it for ages now and all my dogs do well on it. Their coats are lovely and they don't have to eat a huge amount to maintain weight. I've also been told it's TOTW rebadged.
  15. It takes my partner about 45 mins to get from Captains Flat to Queanbeyan so it wouldn't be much further to the airport. If you're looking for a 40 min drive look around Wamboin,Burra,Carwoola,Rossi, Bungendore and Queanbeyan
  16. I've always lived outside of canberra. Wamboin, Burra and now we're in Captains Flat (this area is very dog friendly and rentals are cheap with big yards) but there are plenty of other good places which SSM has mentioned. Goodluck with the move.
  17. That's fantastic news! Glad you could track the breeder down :)
  18. My friends samoyed dislocated his hip and I believe they had the femoral head removed. He's recovered really well and these days you'd hardly know there had been a problem at all. Hope your dog makes a full recovery very soon.

    Samoyed

I use CC white on white or Panagenics for my crew. With the CC make sure you use a conditioner as I've found frequent use can dry the coat and make it yellow. CC After Bath is a good product. If you go with Panagenics it's good to get the whole system and follow the instructions, the dogs turn out great and it cuts drying time. A great grooming spray is Panagenics Hydrating Spray, absolutely brilliant stuff. I've never bothered finding one with sunscreen, if the coat is well conditioned and cared for you shouldn't need it. Those products are pretty pricey, if you're after something cheaper and easier to acquire, Fido's White and Bright is a good shampoo and you can grab it from PetBarn, the others you will have to order online.

    Samoyed

Congrats on choosing the best breed around ;) I agree with DogNerd, your plan to have pup with you is a great idea. I work from home and my samoyeds are with me all the time, mostly they just lounge around at my feet but it's obvious they enjoy having me with them during the day. As for cats, my dogs are from a different breeder (although my Dante is Pan's son) and I've found them to be a little bit too intense for our cats, despite growing up with them and meeting them at their breeders house. They never hurt the cats but they do tend to get a bit over excited and will chase them if they run. If you can I'd suggest getting your puppy to meet a few dog savvy cats before your christmas trip or when you get down there keep pup on lead for awhile just to see how he goes with the cat. I'd say he'd be fine, samoyeds are such friendly dogs, but the cat might not be too thrilled with the dogs attention and you don't want puppy to get swiped and possibly hurt.
  21. Honestly, I switch off. If I was to break down every time I saw something cruel I don't think I'd ever be happy again There is so much darkness in the world but there is good too and it's the good you have to find and focus on.
  22. No problem. If you have no luck please let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. :)
