  1. Southpaws Specialty Surgery - Dr Charles Kuntz. They are located in Moorabin. You do need a vet referral though. He did my Rottie's TPLO years ago and I could not recommend anyone better.
  2. Not sure if this will work in your case - I have problems with fetch too, similiar to BC Crazy, my dog just likes to chase the ball/frisbee/whatever, and just run around with it or lie down and start chewing on it. What I do is I take 2 balls, throw one - then when she gets it and starts running around I make a big deal about the other ball I have, she naturally comes close to investigate, and when she gets close and drops the first ball I throw the second one, she chases it, I pick up the first ball and rinse and repeat... eventually she learnt that bringing the first ball back to me will make the throw the second one, but I don't know how to transition down to one ball lol. I've also done rewarding with food, as in throw the ball, the moment she picks it up and brings it back I reward her, she caught on to this very quickly and would fetch super reliably. The problem is if I don't have food it's back to the old game tho, LOL. Clearly I'm not much help in the fetch department! Lucky I don't really mind, I find it fun tearing around after her anyway, LOL. ETA: She does know the command "Get it" tho, so if I point at something and tell her to "Get it!" she will get it - bringing it to me however is a different issue!
  3. This is my girl looking like a drowned rat. It was not her most favourite of activities.
  4. I just read this in the news today, I think this is the same cat cafe being discussed here? http://m.adelaidenow...m-1226926160714 Is there anywhere we can make a donation, casowner?
  5. My neutered female only humps me after I brush her bum, with the biggest smile on her face.
  6. I ordered mine today. :) My Aussie doesn't have a tail so not worried there! Can't wait for it to arrive.
  7. Yes, I went one step ahead and enquired about it... they can't ship it to Australia. In the little box down the bottom it says shipping to US states only. The customer service person told me that I could get it through their UK site however, and they can ship to Aus. I went to check it out... and it's soooooo much more expensive in GBP, the shipping is a killer too, I had to give up on it. The search for the perfect bed continues...
  8. Ugh, that photo is breaking my heart, why does it have to be so expensive.. I'm looking for an alternative too, and this Snooza one says its bolster is designed for dogs that like to lay their heads on it? I'd like a memory foam one tho..
  9. Ohhhhhh Kenz and Ness are so cute modelling the coat. Thank you so much for sharing the photos. My Aussie is only a tiny little thing too, about 16kg and 490 at the withers too. The back part looks very long, does it interfere with toileting? The drawstrings are a bit worrying, reckon my girl might try to chew on them, little rascal. Think I will go with the mesh based on DOL recommendations, hope they help the muscle soreness a bit. I am assuming the rug heats everything it covers, and not just targeted spots? I might get the 55 if it means it can cover her thigh muscles too, she tends to get quite tight in those muscles. That's the 55-58 size on the website, right?
  10. Ohh interesting replies! Thanks everyone. I'm thinking of getting one to have her sleep in them now while recovering from her injury, and for after her massages. I have an Aussie Shepherd, should I go with the mesh on or in your experiences are the quilted ones better? I worry it will get too hot for double-coated dogs? What size do you use if you don't mind me asking, I'm assuming you use them on your border collies?
  11. Just wondering if anyone's had any experience with products such as this before : https://www.backontr...ug-mesh-medium/ My girl recently had a hip injury and under the vet's suggestion I have been carefully applying heat packs to help soothe sore muscles. She is better now but I wonder if something like this would be good to have on in general and if it would help with any future sore muscles since it says it "reflects heat back onto the dog". Wonder if stuff like this really works? Does anyone use stuff like this before or after going into the ring as well? I haven't seen many people using things like this in obedience trials but I assume it would be more common in agility? Would love any feedback.
  12. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the video. What an amazing cat!!! Makes me wonder if my cat would do the same for me!
  13. I've been really tempted to import a nice bed from Orvis in America........ the price tag and shipping is making me hesitate however. I've been hmm-ing and haa-ing for months over it!
  14. Yes, agree to this wholeheartedly. One of the reasons I don't walk my dog around the streets in my area anymore after being rushed so many times. I wouldn't have a chance in hell fending off angry dogs who mean business in an attack. How many times does the scenario in the news article have to happen before councils take sterner action towards idiots who break the law.
  15. It keeps crashing every time I get to the training section. I'll try again on a different computer tomorrow or something.
  16. I found mine on Happyhousesitters, time will tell if they are good when I go away later this year, though they seem like lovely people and love animals and furry cuddles, just not on the bed, LOL. We came to a compromise and they are happy to have the pets sleep in the bedroom, just not in the bed - tho I don't know how they are going to keep the cat off she is very persistent! We don't have a spare bedroom so they will be in our normal bedroom. I wish Little Gifts lived in Victoria, LOL.
  17. Oh lordy, you would LOVE my pack then!!!!!!!!! No such thing as sitting on the couch without at least one furry creature in your lap. You would also never be able to get out of bed, it's why I'm always almost late for work. I'm a bit sad because the house sitters I have booked for later this year have said that they do not want pets in the bed, but really when I think about it, sleeping with pets is a bit much to ask from non-crazy dog people like us on DOL!
  18. A little bird told me that Crazysales will be stocking Hurtta coats soon. :D I'm thinking of getting a light sort of coat for my dog as well just for sleeping in on cold winter nights but I don't know how light a coat is supposed to be for an Aussie without it being too warm, and raincoats aren't really the best material for sleeping in... a raincoat would be tempting for walking in wet weather tho I would need to buy one for myself too!
  19. Hey Little Gifts, would you consider coming down to Melbourne for a holiday / house sit?
  20. I just wanted to wish you good luck and I hope everything goes well. Please keep us updated on the whelping. There are lots of experienced knowledgeable people here who have given you some great advice and I think it's a good start that you found the courage to post here even though you knew people wouldn't be pleased. I agree you should contact your breeder. All the best to you and your dog.
  21. Not sure if I missed it but have you considered joining an obedience club or something? You could meet like-minded people there who would be able to help you in person as well.
  22. Agree with no chasing, it's a strict law in my house that cats always rule. It may take some time, you say you've only just adopted the dog? I would be taking things very slowly - it may take months for them to start being comfortable around each other. Baby gates are a good idea, I always use them when introducing new dogs or cats in the house. Also make sure cat has a safe spot in the house where dog cannot access, and lots of places for cat to jump on or hide to escape from dog if being chased.
  23. I only use my crate for trialling and other events like workshops etc. At home it is in my bedroom with the door open and my dog will often sleep in it on her own will. I think crates are great and so useful but I don't think I would ever just keep my dog crated for hours and hours without breaks.
