We can't have a dog door because Coda destroys them trying to get inside if there is a thunder storm while we are at work. Ci you are lucky you can get back to sleep! Just doesn't happen for me when I'm woken after about 2:00 am So Tuesday dinner was at 7:00 ish and he asked for out at 1:00 and then again at 2:00 Wednesday dinner was at 6:00 (so I could crawl into bed with flu) and he made it all night Thursday dinner was 7:00 ish and he asked for out at 2:00, but to bark and other dogs in the street were barking too Let's see what happens over the weekend

Was at the vet on Monday night for vaccinations and didn't think to ask about this issue:-( Tonight dinner was just after 7:00 and Mazda thought the world had ended. Life is so hard when your food doesn't arrive on time! Juice, when they were allowed upstairs Coda would sleep at the bottom of the stairs by choice most nights. It is Mazda who misses sleeping in with us. Let's see what happens at 3:00 am.

We have three dogs: Coda the GSD who will be 10 this year Mazda the English Setter who will be 7 this year Veli the English Setter who is 2 They sleep inside, in the kitchen. They have crates but I don't shut them into their crates so they are free to move around the room as they desire. Dinner time is around 5 - 5:30 pm. Lockup is around 9:30 - 10:00 pm. And I get up at 4:45 am so the door is opened around then. My problem is that Coda doesn't seem to be able to make it through the night without an outside trip. He has taken to barking for out around 3:00 - 3:30 am, when he will have a drink, a poo and a wee (not necessarily in that order) It takes me a hour or so to go back to sleep after he has woken me up, by which time is nearly time to get up anyway. And I am so tired.... Should he be able to make it through the night, or is this a consequence of getting older? (Previously we didn't bother closing the door, but we started doing that this winter so this is a relatively new problem. And I'd like to keep the door closed as I feel safer that way. Even with three "big" dogs in the kitchen!)

Yes, I have seen my Setter back up to the edge of the concrete so he didn't have to put his paws onto wet grass. (Wet concrete was OK for some reason.)

Rappie, some time ago I saw a FaceBook post about a new injection that was cartrophen plus something else. I think the something else was glucosamine. Do you perhaps know what this might be? (I can't find the post to refer back to it again.)

Let me re-phrase my original question. On their website they say to send the results back via FedEx, UPS or USPS Priority Mail. What do we use from Australia? trifecta, I think I've used up my PM allowance with Erny! :laugh:

A couple of people have suggested the NutriScan test from Jean Dodds for my dog with digestive issues http://www.nutriscan.org/ For those that have used the test, how did you post the test back to the US for analysis?

Unfortunately one of my dogs has a chronic condition (IBS) and the other is 7 so I have a feeling that I am stuck with PetPlan. (I don't have insurance on my GSD, but after what I've been through with the other 2 I think I will always take out insurance in future.)

Thanks to animallover99 for sending us the thundershirt. We had an opportunity to try it and I think it took the edge of his anxiety. Normally he spends his time going between the OH and me, but he was happy to get as close as possible to me and stay there.

Popping back in to update this thread. We have had a lot of help from a fantastic DOLer who is welcome to "out" herself in this thread if she would like to In summary we have tried - various forms of antibiotics - tested him for everything the vet could think of (including EPI) - wormed him - tried a raw diet - tried him on what we hoped was a novel source of protein (goat) - had an ultrasound of his gut and nothing seemed to help or give us any pointers as to what could be wrong. Currently he is on a treatment trial to see if steroids will help. On Friday we started him on Losec (to try and minimise the effects of the steroids) and from Saturday he has been on prednisolone. (If my maths is right, he is starting off on 60 mg for the first week, then 30 mg for the second week) He is currently on dry food - the Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal Low Fat. Apparently the steroids normally make the dog hungry. Seems to have had the opposite effect on Veli and he is now picking at this food. Hopefully his appetite will return to normal soon.

My young English Setter has an issue with his lip folds. For some reason he seems to be prone to dermatitis there. The vet has done "cosmetic surgery" but says they could possibly have taken more out and it might be worth putting him through a second op. I'm not so convinced I want him to have another GA. He is a very active dog and so he drinks a lot. His mouth seems to be permanently wet e.g. he often has froth under his chin. The vet suggested wiping his lips at bedtime with fragrance free baby wipes which we are now doing. Does anyone else have some preventative tips?

leopuppy04, not sure where you live? When we needed goat for a trial for our dog, the best source was the halal butchers.

Thanks for the replies. animallover99, I've sent you a PM about the thundershirt. Yonjuro, I had also thought that the diffuser would be the best bet for us.

My GSD seems to be getting more anxious during thunderstorms as he gets older. (He is 9 now) Has anyone tried any of the Adaptil products? Do they work?

It would be very interesting to see the response from SASH if you asked them to "please explain".

Just to close off this story: The owner contacted Pugs SOS and the dog has now been rehomed.

Is there a pug rescue organisation operating in Sydney?
