Couldn't get there before 11:00 and not many people left. Apologies to Milo's Mum if she thought Coda was playing too rough... Was hoping they would sort each other out but took Coda away as it looked like things were getting too stressful.

good to hear

My vet says Coda is the most relaxed GSD she has ever met - maybe we could get together and introduce them?
-
How is your girl doing now? Have you found anything that helps her?
-
We are currently feeding Royal Canin - the one specifically for GSDs, after Coda's episode with pano. Robbie kept trying to steal it out of Coda's bowl so now he is getting Royal Canin for Retrievers. (had the lowest fat content). Certainly nicer picking up after them these days, than when we were feeding SuperCoat and whatever it was that Coda's breeder recommended....

Maybe an assessment from a professional would take some of the emotion out of it? Guess like others have said, it depends on what else is going on in the dog's life. Maybe if this was a once off incident then it could be explained away. e.g. some one pats a sound asleep dog and the dog, completely startled into wakefulness, bites. Is that the dog's faulty? I don't think so. But behaviour that is showing a pattern certainly seems cause for concern, especially if the dog's owners are not worried.

does that mean around 10:00 ish?

Used to have a GSD that was allergic to Kikuyu (sp?) grass. It would affect mainly his paws. We found the best thing to treat them with was hibitane based udder wash. When we moved to Australia, Muncher went to live with my parents. He started treating himself by walking along the top step of swimming pool whenever his paws got itchy. Seem to work for some reason.

Thought you lot would shoot me for suggesting that on a dog this young. Maybe now he is a year old, he is old enough? I've heard the citronella ones can be poisonous - is that why you suggest static rather than spray? BTW does anyone know if ACP is ace? Have some here left over from a foster dog, but can't remember what they are for. (25mg tablets)

Back for Round 3. Decided that maybe we had stuffed up the crate thing so badly we should go back to letting them sleep outside for a couple of weeks and then start again. (And we had a couple of fosters in a row who needed inside to themselves.) And now for the next exciting development <where's the drum roll icon?> On Friday we started putting Coda in his crate and letting Robbie sleep in the kitchen again. I am back to waking up every time Coda moves & then he starts whinging around 3:30ish. At least by the end of our last attempt he was making it 4:30. The last two mornings Tessa has started yelling for her pals around 5:30 in the morning. So we now have Tessa, Robbie and Coda all yelling & howling. Makes you realise how thin the walls in project houses, but guess that is another story. I let our two out at 5:50 this morning. Couldn't stand the noise any longer. My appointment with K9 is mid-November. Reckon we'll be insane long before then. OH wants to know why debarking is not an option, as all the breeders dogs were done. What do I tell him? Neither of us are going to be very productive at work at this rate, I'm mixing up things in my posts on DOL, and my studying this weekend has been dreadful.

Anyone else find their dog's actions depend on if their dog has company? This weekend Coda has learnt to pick both the baby gate restricting the dogs to the kitchen, and the sliding door into the garage so we've had a couple of escape attempts. If one was out on his own then he would come back when called. But when both of them got out they were off to see the world.

Not at all - it is educational. Never knew that a desexed dog could display this behaviour. And here I though Coda was very very strange. (well, he doesn't eat chocolate either.)

Haven't had cockers for a couple of years now - most I ever got charged was $65 for a badly matted dog. The dog had a "seal" clip - all off - which may have been easier for the groomer?

such big words for such a insignificant stimulation.Have you ever tried the ecollar on yourself sb? Just to add I have tried the anti barking collar on my neck - the output of that is aprox 50 times stonger than the ecollar. Im still alive But you don't know which state you are in.... maybe this explains everything :D

Sounds like she might like that one - being French it should have style. RIP Miss Jenny.

Coda has recently decided that he doesn't like my cyclamen. Maybe because it gets pink flowers? He chews off the flowers, even the buds, and prunes the leaves. I'm sure it can't taste good. Who knows why they do these things.
-
It is also amazing what they will find to eat while on a walk. Especially if Juice and her Wei Jed are around Jed is a fantasic scavenger and it never seems to do him any harm.
-
And how do you stop them chewing when they never do it in front of you? Coda has totally destroyed our spa cover, but never touches it when we are around. How is he meant to learn it is off limits?

She will waiting for you at the bridge with wagging tail and happy kisses.

Think last night may have been something of a turning point. He asked to go into his crate relatively early on in the evening, which he has never done before. He came out for a toilet stop at bedtime and then we didn't hear another word out of him until 5:10. Tonight when they came inside he picked up a stuffed hippo and has been playing with it on and off all evening. First time I have ever seen him play with any toy. Here's hoping tonight is good too! Does your drive package begin at the beginning for novices like us? (things like what is drive & what are the different kinds of drive.) I know that he is different to Robbie who can be motivated by food. Still haven't worked out where Coda's buttons are.

Crashed out Coda (proving he can be sleepy when it suits him)
-
yes - think that might just be the problem
-
Good point - think the official time is 11:00?
-
Coda LOVES playing with littlies so if you see a GSD bounding up it is probably him. It can be quite embarrassing - take him to dog school and he always goes up to the littlest dog he can find going "lets be friends" while the poor little dog and their owner are panicking even thought he is on a lead.

On me or the dog??? Covered his crate last night. Somehow he managed to pull the blanket into the crate and slept on it. Hey - it could be worse as he didn't shred it. He did his "I need out" bark at 3.00 ish and then at 3.30 again. Then there was peace until he wanted out of the crate around 4:30. So I ignored this and let him whinge until 6:05 when I let them out. He promptly spent the next hour going yip yip yip at Tessa. He tries to dig his way out - has actually bent the bottom of the crate and he managed to move it away from the wall with all his carrying on. The general consensus is ignore him. This post was also very helpful. Although how Steve manages to pick crate and dog together is beyond him. He's staying in the kitchen for now.
