  1. You can order just the collar from K9 force. Its great if you can afford a session to get some training with it, but if your budget doesn't stretch than far ...
  2. How worried was the pup by all this? I know when Coda is playing too rough or too long, Robbie will tell him where to go. It sounds bad to us, but Coda seems to understand Robbie perfectly well. And everything settles down again pretty quick.
  3. We recently had a session with K9 force with our GSD, and Steve was trying to explain this very point to us. Hopefully he'll come along and post more eloquently than I can. I was walking down the drive when Steve's dogs barked from inside the garage. Coda stopped dead in his tracks. Without thinking, I bend over to pat him, made reassuring noises and then got him to continue walking. Once we were inside Steve went upstairs. When he came near to the stairs you could hear his footfalls where we were waiting. Coda "started" at the noise, and backed away from the stairs. Again, I bent over to reassure him. Steve explained it has a lot to do with body language. By bending over, you make yourself look smaller. Which then seems to the dog as though YOU are afraid too. Then the dog thinks, well if my human is scared too, this must be really scarey. Better to stand up tall and walk on with a confident "lets go". That way you are not giving the dog any false vibes. Guess thisis one of the things the other posters meant when they were talking about leadership, and how important it is?
  4. So did everyone agree this is not a likely occurrence? (Think we got a bit sidetracked from the original question )
  5. My dogs like chewing on old bones too. I think as long as the bones are not so old that they are getting splintery it should be fine.
  6. What's bigger? Those "bolo" bones seem to be too big and there is nothing in between.
  7. Yup Steve reinforced this with us at our recent session. Good advice Rachiie
  8. Innotek have a 30 day guarantee on all their products, if that helps?
  9. With our dogs we follow a middle path. Yes they get excited when we get home, but they have to sit before we let them in. The trainer told us that giving a command that in effect takes the dog's mind off carrying on was probably the least stressful method of dealing with this.
  10. We used to have a cocker with the same problem & Sentinel was the only thing that worked for us. We still use it now for all our dogs, even though we don't have a problem currently.
  11. Coda was originally on Proplan, as per his breeder's recommendation. Then he got pano and we were advised to feed him food with less protein. We've tried Royal Canin and Science Diet, but he kept turning his nose up at the food. Then we got Misty as a foster, and she wouldn't eat dry food either. So at the moment everyone is getting SuperCoat with Nature's Gift canned food added. I'd like to try Nutro, but what if the fuss pots won't eat that either?
  12. Not sure if they are legal where you are. but when all else fail it might be time to try a no bark collar. Like this
  13. This one is not a collar,it is a box to put in the area, and is supposed to be effective for multiple dogs. I hope it works Also very interested - we have the same problems with the dog next door. Either mine sets her off, or she sets mine off. Either way, its noisy!
  14. My dog still likes chewing paper, although I think he especially likes shredding it. Seems the only way to stop this is like the others have said - keep things out of his reach.
  15. Well Coda my GSD is really laid back (apart from his playing at 4:00am and that is a whole other story). Like cavNrott I want to have fun with my dogs, not turn them into robots. He spends most of his time in the backyard so if he wants to smell every post we walk past when he does get out, is that such a drama? Robbie has a different situation altogether, and I think from now on I won't be walking them together. It means less walks for Robbie, but he is probably better off being walked one on one.
  16. Cordelia was explaining to me how I am causing problems for myself by letting my dog Robbie decide what he wants to do on a walk, instead of telling him. As she put it - the dog world is not a democracy. It was a really good conversation but as I was at work, I couldn't pick her brains as much as I would have liked. So how does this work in practise. For example, when I walk Coda he loves to smell things. Since we are on the walk for his benefit rather than mine, I always let him stop and smell whatever it is and then walk on when he's ready. Surely a walk won't be much fun if he can't do some of his stuff too?
  17. We have a hose attachment that connects to the laundry taps and a nice adjustable "gun" on the other end.
  18. Maybe they have a dog like mine that I am at my wits end with. I can't seem to stop Coda "barking" early in the morning when he thinks he is playing with the dog next door. "yip yip yip" If I have him inside I get no sleep. If I have him outside he carries on early in the morning, and disturbs the neighbours. Right now I am so tired that he is sleeping out.
  19. and where is the photo of dog wearing said collar so we can all see how good they are?
  20. Our water bowl is connected to a tap so it fills itself. Great for dogs that like to paddle in their water. Until you have a puppy that works out how to take the lid off the "works" section and chew the float. :D
