Puppies can also get greenstick fractures REST her. Tiles and young pups is not a good combination, I'm afraid. Hopefully she hasn't any major injuries... Hi Persephone Thank you, I'm going to keep a close eye on her and have the emergency number handy just in case. Seems to be improving by leaps and bounds though, almost literally. I've got blankets and towels down over a good area and finally found the cable ties to set up a pen to block her off from the step. I would just hate myself if anything happened to scar her start in in life. Shel Shel, So glad that Bronte is improving. Giggles used to get the hiccups a lot and I suspect it is the way he drank water. I sort of propped up his drinking bowl. Not sure if it was a puppy thing. My mum insisted that cold water made giggles get the hiccups so she wanted me to give Giggles slightly warm water instead. It's an asian thing. Older folks always believe that little bubs (puppies inculded) should not take cold water that "shocks" their tiny insides. So temp of food/drink has to be suited to their body temp

We get so much sunshine here so is cod liver oil really necessary? I would think that a fish oil might be better. It is best to speak to a nutritionist about such things as you need to consider the weight and diet of the dog. I would think that over-supplementation is not all that great.

Does Teething Cause And Bad Breath?
cashew replied to mplsv's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It's the dried blood combined with saliva that stinks. I have been told to wipe down the gums with some water added with a touch of bi-carb. If the smell really bothers you, you can try a spray bottle with diluted bi-carb and spray onto the gums. Easier than having to use a cotton swab to wipe. But not too sure if the bi-carb is safe enough but we do use it in our baking so I suppose a tiny bit wouldnt hurt. -
I used to have my MS handstripped by the groomer but it was way too time consuming and my dog is just a pet, nothing close to being a show dog So I took up a 3-mth pet grooming course and purchased all the necessary equipment to groom my own MS. I enjoy doing that a lot and it has been this way since. My scissorwork leaves a lot to be desired but I figured my dog does not bother. My vet once went "Oh dear you have lop-sided beard"

Angry Tiny Red Lump & Red Rash In Surrounding Area
cashew replied to rubiton's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sounds like a nasty insect bite. Do you have any soothing cream to apply to the lump? -
Oh dear Kirislin, you have your plate full taking care of the little ones. Has feather made her poo yet? When will Penny be in to remove the blood lump? You found it early so let's hope she will make a full recovery soon.

Thanks Benny 123. Vet did a needle biopsy and some fluid came out. He said it's either a serona or cyst and it is small and unlikely to cause any issues. So glad.
-
My uncle had something similar on his leg some years back. He accidentally scratched it one day and it bled out quite a bit. Went to the dr to have it removed. Hope it's nothing serious Krislin. I am also just back from the vet. Boy had his mysterious little lump checked out.
-
I sure hope it's nothing serious. Have been frightening myself all morning reading up on lumps and tumours I will bring some treats along to distract my little guy. He is quite a sissy when it comes to needles. Our next door neighbour's schnauzer coincidentally just had a lump removed at his shoulder weeks ago. Neighbour said that the vet thought it was his microchip but when operated on and taken out, there was no chip in the lump. Thanks Puggy. Good to know the needle won't sting that much.
-
It's not soft but definitely moveable. I can move it around with the skin. My boy is terrific of needles and will cling on to me for dear life

Found a small lump underneath my dog's skin near his shoulder area. It can be moved around but is not causing any pain to him. Not too sure if the lump is the result of his microchip (been there for 6 years). Made an appointment to see the vet later. Hope it is nothing serious. So worried for the little guy.

Oh dear. I am not too familiar with signs of bloat/obstruction but she would be pretty sick if that was the case. Did she have the runs today as well? I will probably pick up her poo for the vet to test for any bacteria as well.
-
Nope - Melbourne Metro. If I lived in a tick area they'd be at the vet every day I know what you mean! My current dog is my first dog and I was so paranoid some years back I rushed him to the vet for any tiny little thing. The vet said that I am a hypochrondiac mum. I have sinced been weaned off the paranoia.

My boy also throws up once in a while. The gagging is scary to hear but as long as he continues to eat and seems happy, I presume it's just the body getting rid of something uncomfortable. I noticed that when he smells vinegary stuff he tends to throw up at night. So I avoid using vinegar to mop the floor.

Poor mini! My groomer teacher used to keep all of such "undesirable hair items" in a ziplock and present them to the owners when they pick up the dogs. She said it was to show tthe owners what had been removed. It happened on several occasions that upon removing that much gunk, the ear canals of the dogs got sore and actually required medical attention. Owners generally blamed the groomer not knowing that an infection was there in the first place.
-
Sounds a lot like a gastro virus. Don't worry too much if he's still acting normally. Hope he will be alright soon.

I am in the "pluck" camp. A few weeks' worth of non-plucking will cause terrible infections. I don't usually flush the ear as suggested in the ear solution directions. I merely wet cotton balls with those solutions and give the ears a good wipe. I figured any gunk inside will be flicked out naturally and I just think that flushing ears with wet stuff makes it really uncomfortable. My boy has very hairy ear canals so prior to any plucking, I sprinkle on ear powder. I also tried corn starch once when I ran out of ear powder. Works fine...helps me grip the hair well.

I still brush my MS's teeth a few times a week. Just a tiny tiny bit of regular baking soda -- really tiny bit. I figured we use baking soda in our food so it will not be as toxic as most other sort of toothpastes we see.

Liver, lungs and intense red meats (roo) cause darker poo for my MS. If he had a meal with liver, his poop is always very very dark. It is sticker than usual as well. I once fed my dog beetroot because I was eating some---he peed red. I cried because I thought something went wrong. vet could not help laughing.

I love salmon heads grilled with terriyaki sauce! I am quite worried about the fish bones for dogs...so dog gets salmon belly without any bones and mum grills the head for herself.

PM, there are many pet shops near Causeway Bay. I was there last year and I recall walking through a street full of pet shops. He has to brave himself seeing puppies for sale but I did see some shops carrying quite a number of pet grooming products.
-
Bangkok's Paragon Shopping Centre has a rather huge pet grooming area. I recall seeing quite a huge range of Doggyman's product there. Not too sure if the pink range is launched there. My friend who runs his pet grooming business in Singapore sent me the most wonderful Christmas pressies, a Pink Slicker and Pink Greyhound comb. "Pure Pretty" range.

The soda crystals are found at the detergent section of supermarkets. I am not too sure of the exact amount to cause purging but it is about 3/4tsp for my MS. The local vet I went to actually inserted a crystal (not too sure if it was the same sort) into his eye to encourage purging as my boy was too bloated and sick to swallow anything. He was also lying on his side and had difficulties breathing by the time I found him at home. I was out on a Christmas Party when it happened. Worst ever night I had. All chocolates are now kept on the top shelf of my pantry or in the fridge. Things like coffee powder/bread dough are equally toxic.

Thanks so much Caro. I almost lost my baby to 500gm bloack of milk chocolate. Luckily we managed to get him into the ER on time. It was my worst night ever. There are also other signs like excessive drinking of water, bloatedness and hyperactivity. Vet also put him on a lot of charcoal pills to clear up remnants in his stomach after making him purge. To be on the safe side, I have heeded the advice of Dolers here to stash some lectric soda crystals. Edited for spelling: Lectric Soda
