  1. My schnauzer had a bout of extremely bad skin some years ago. The vet recommended shaving him down to a short coat and to shower him 2-3 times weekly. It helped as he recovered shortly after that. Some sort of bacteria and yeast requires more showering...it really depends on the condition of the skin. I rather wash off bacteria and dead skin than to leave it to cake up thus causing more itch. But check with your vet if necessary.
  2. You just have to ensure that the microchip machines used in the particular country can read your dog's chip. That was what I was told when I registered to have my dog exported here.
  3. Yes I also vote for Holistic Select Lamb. My dog still itched with the anchovy and seems far better with lamb. I get my supply from Pet Stock (Ormond). They ran out of the 3kg lamb bag when I was there yesterday.
  4. Kibbles in the morning and raw at night. Dog is 8 this year. He also gets little natural treats throughout the day.
  5. I have only travelled once since we migrated here. And I placed my precious twerp at Mornington Lodge. He was happy, I was happy and I had a good trip without worries. I also arranged for him to be picked up and dropped off.
  6. Sending Lola all the good throat thoughts---my mini schnauzer said he is sending her a beardy good recovery thought too. Heal well little Lola.
  7. I always see dogs shopping at Vic market --- they are usually rather well-behaved. I dare not bring mine along as he is quite notorious for stealing fruits/food so I really don't want to invite trouble It's mostly open space so I think the dogs might even enjoy the sights and sounds. Such a pity they are not allowed....I mean there are live chickens along some aisles so it's really not that different from a Farmers' Market..where many dogs enjoy with their owners. ;)
  8. I always give my dog slippery elm when he has tummy discomfort (to lubricate his guts). It worked for him but I am not too sure how others feel about this. I did it with recommendation from our naturopath.
  9. Angel is a true angel. We are all right from the beginning, dogs are angel without wings
  10. Puppyhood was a bittersweet period for me. My 4-mth old pup came to me and developed parvo-virus the next day. He is my first ever dog. I spent the next week shuttling between the vet and home. When he came home from the hospital, it was more of a time to really watch him as he developed other problems like fungal infection and kennel cough. It was almost hellish and I woke up every 2 hrs at night just to check on him. He could not really digest his food and had the runs for weeks...poor baby. Inbetween all that I had to work full-time so it was really a terrible period. Then he turned into a monster during his teenage months..destroying my newly renovated apartment while I was at work Bloody dog cost me so much ;) Having said that, I will go through all that in a heartbeat for what he gave me, the love, is inmeasurable He taught me what love is, taught me how fragile life could be and most importantly he showed me what responsibilities and care meant, for all he had was me and if I had given up he would not have been here today. I am still in contact with the vet who gave us a chance...we are good friends now. He can't believe what leap of faith we had 8 years ago...my dog was also the first successful case of parvo he had seen, fresh out of school.
  11. I tried with vinegar once. I think it sort of worked because I really really washed and cleaned my flyscreen then. But the cat kept appearing to re-spray..it was a huge battle I had for months...awful experience.
  12. This is really such a bright and happy video...I am so happy!
  13. ;) Thanks for showing me how much love there is still left in this world
  14. My life is so routined. When I wake up, it's out to the garden with the dog to pick up my papers. Then Dog will go toileting and come in for his breakfast. He gets fed again at around 5pm. I have no peace if dog is not fed..he has an annoying barkish yap that starts around 450pm followed by a lot of hopping and spinning and pawing. He lives for his food so I will never ever forget his meal. I try to plan my schedule such that I don't miss his dinnertime as well..if not, he gets fed earlier.
  15. Awwww Happy 2nd Birthday!!!!!! They just grow up so fast....
  16. +1 I thought that taxi drivers have to pass certain tests before they are allowed to hit the roads. I am sure there is something about knowing the laws....
  17. Mine has a character moulded from me. My entire family says so. :D We are both stubborn and lazy When we want something, we are determined to get it. Plus greedy....
  18. Precisely. No editor on hand to go through such articles? horrifying.

  21. Oh Loraine, Coco has such soulful eyes. This thread has brought me a lot of tears...I thank God for each day I have with my dog now. I can't believe how time just zeeps away when we are so loved by our dogs.
  22. Poor Puck. Please recover soon. I hate freaky idiots who smash their bottles --- bloody people who have no brains. We can't even walk our dogs without worrying about such things....
