Take him outside on a lead - don't give him a chance to play, let him sniff in a 6 foot circle around you.

He's weeing 5 times a day at 5 months? And he's weeing inside, 10 minutes after weeing inside? I'm not sure, but maybe that's a little excessive. Assuming he sleeps for at least 8 hours during the night, that's roughly every 3 hours. Maybe get the vet to check him out? Is he always going in the same spot inside? You might try getting one of the commercial enzyme cleaners. When he wakes up, do you run to the door and call him excitedly? Try to get him to run outside with you - not give him a chance to stop? My dog wasn't completely housetrained until around 6 months. Sorry I can't offer much advice.
-
Don't expect it to last  He might go through some "stages" -

I started with books and DVDs. Then joined a school when Barkly hit 6mo. I started with positive, food reward and clicker training. I don't think you need obedience certs to start agility but your dog does need to be at least 12mo old (some schools say 18mo). Your dog will need to be reasonably focused and reliable off-lead.

I'm very food motivated. Toys? Meh
-
Yeah, I'm treading a fine line aren't I? I want UDX and AG CH ETA: With a Cocker !

As soon as school is back, I'll be looking you up! - Because I want to do agility, I'm going to have to teach him both sides. At Southside on Thursday we did a tiny little agility run, when the instructor said to do the course with the dog on the right...of course he kept coming to my left Nice work on the video! That's about Barkly's standard when he's working well.

hehe - if only I was 2 inches tall and smelled like grass. or crunched when bitten and smelled like a chicken frame
-
Thanks LP. I'll buy them and put them on the shelf with all the other DVDs I haven't watched
-
Hi Leopuppy04 Which particular DVD and where can I get it?
-
Does drive build naturally as a dog get's older (either food or prey drive)? Barkly's 9mo and his drive could be better (well, except when he smells a chicken frame).
-
Agree. One shot is much more effective most of the time. With practice, you can focus lock and shoot pretty quickly, before the subject has had a chance to move.
-
Yep, this is what I was trying to do. I've customised my camera so I focus with * button now. I kept touching it and it would light up and I'd try to take the pic but I must've been off a bit because when I got them onto my computer and checked the "show auto focus points" most times they were black. Only a couple of pics showed up in red. I don't think you should take the light to mean anything. When in AI Servo mode all it shows it which focus point was selected - it doesn't say anything about what was in focus or whether it was focused or hunting. AI Servo mode is a bit of a hit and miss affair, not all images will be in focus. The times it shows up on the computer must have been the times when you pressed and shot straight away. This doesn't mean the other shots were wrong or that your timing was out.
-
When in AI Servo Mode (not AI Focus mode, that's different). If you have automatic focus point selected (all the points light up briefly when you change focus points): - - The camera will first obtain focus under the center point. Then if the subject moves inside the frame, the camera will pass focus to other focus points as needed. They will not light up. If you manually select a focus point (so that only the selected focus point lights up when selecting a focus point), the camera will try to keep whatever is under that point in focus. The point will light up briefly when you first press the focus button. It won't continually light as it refocuses and obtains focus.

No problem - when shooting JPG, the camera sharpens for you (the amount depends on the setting).
-
Any DVDs that help enhance the prey drive? I get little glimpses of how driven my dog can be when I get out a chicken frame, I'd like that level of drive when I pull out the tug toy or the orbee ball!
-
We'll have to agree to disagree. It's accepted practice to sharpen nearly all images that are resized and to sharpen RAW files as a matter of course. Resizing an image softens edges. The anti-aliasing filter on digital cameras softens images. Unless you are shooting JPG (in which case the camera sharpens anyway) and not resizing, the image will benefit from sharpening. Yep, the images posted are pretty sharp - they'd look better with a touch of sharpening though.
-
Plenty sharp enough. Exposure is perfect. Shooting ISO 400 doesn't make it any more likely to get overexposure in TV/AV/Auto mode . Question - are you shooting RAW? If so - you must always sharpen your images. Even if you shoot jpg, you must always sharpen your images after you resize them for web display. Shooting canon in AI Servo mode? ...The little red square won't light up if you are using all the focus points, only if you have a specific one chosen - best to specifally choose the center point.

You've just put offside another group of dog enthusiasts :D To digress... Any police dog handlers out there competing in (or even just sympathetic toward) Schutzhund? ...they'd be great people to have onside -
Tutorial here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewConten...ternalId=331327 Say you want an image that's 18in x 12in. You need to resize the image so that it's 18in by 12in and 300dpi. You will see the pixel counts change - that's 'interpolation'. Photoshop 'makes up' the extra pixels needed based on the adjacent pixels. Note: Photyoshop can only 'make up' so many pixels befor ethe image starts to look degraded. How big do you want to print (in inches or mm wide) ?

I don't think this one is under the guise of dog welfare. I thinks it's a reaction to dog attacks and 'dangerous dogs'. As a related issue...any proposals on how continue to allow well run Schutzhund clubs and resposible owners and trainers while helping to reassure the community that the law can deal with Micko who trains his bully Killer to attack? Perhaps we need some accredited training organisations/clubs, some guidelines, etc? How is the situation handled in Europe? -

What are they being charged with? ETA: Is this really a BSL issue? It's about the deed, not the breed right? -
If you can't find the Gottfried Dildei DVDs it's because there are quite a few different spelling used around the net. I've got one of the DVDs in fron of me and on the cover it's spelt: Gottfried Dildei
