i_clickers are much softer than the big sqaure ones. clik-r clickers are a little softer again. You know what I'd do...don't make a big deal of the clicker. Don't start using it as part of a training session or even with the goal of a serious charging session. While you are sitting on the couch and dog is occupied with something else, click and throw the food to the dog. Don't try to lure the dog to you. Wait a minute and click again. Throw the food to the dog. Repeat until the dog glances at you when it hears the click. Ten throw the food 3/4 of the way to the dog. Coninue and build slowly until the dog is getting the treat at your feet. By this stage is should be associating the clicker with good things!

It's been a while since I posted a new photo of Barkly. This was shot at low tide, Middle Park Beach, St Kilda, Melbourne.

Well, Barkly is a ball thief. It's been 3 hours since he last stole a ball. There, I've admitted it. Being a cocker spaniel, he's not the fastest dog at the park but I suspect he is the sneakiest. As soon as he spies a tennis ball, he starts dagging around (often hanging around people with chuckit sticks), trying not to act suspicious, just waiting for the opportunity to arise. The second a dog returns with a ball and the ball hits the ground near him (dropped by the owning dog for example)...pounce. It's in his mouth and he's trotting around head held high, tail wagging, proud as punch. When this unsavory behavior first manifested itself, what did I do? Well, I recalled him of course, then gave him the "let go" cue (with a treat over his nose to get him to spit out the ball). Sure enough, 'pop', out comes the ball onto the ground, Barkly get's his treat, I return the ball to it's rightful owner. Everyone's happy. Spot the problem? Well, Barkly's now worked out a nice little chain of behavior. - Dag around, waiting for ball stealing opportunity - Steal ball - Take ball to me - wait for let go cue - let go - get treat - go steal ball again D'Oh. Now I have to work out how to fix this little problem. It's complicated by the fact that the ball stealing is a secondary reinforcer! Anyway, thought it might amuse some.

1/60 and ISO 1600 and at 200mm - was this hand held? The slow shutter speed and high ISO might be contributing to the lack of "crispness". There's a bit of noise. Some noise reduction and sharpening would help. A good f/2.8 lens would have allowed you to shoot at ISO 800 and 1/125 - it would have improved the image quality marginally.

That's really not too bad.

Do You Have Any Of Your Own Pictures Displayed In Your House?
Luke W replied to ruthless's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I've got a few... A series of shots taken from a hot air balloon over Healesville: This abstract series Plus some portraits of Barkly, some portraits of my OH, a couple of architectural shots taken at fed square, ...hmmm... About 12 images all up. -
There's been a 301 Redirect set up on the host. To the EDBA forum.

I'm not happy with George's poo on Eagle Pack either. Have just bought a bag of Artemis. Will be interested to see how he goes. Hi Clyde - bump the thread when you've had some time to see what the Artemis is like? Barkly is nearly finished the last of his Eagle Pack Holistic Medium Puppy and about to start an adult food.

It says it is not compatible with my program, but thanks anyways Strange - it says on the download page: "The Camera Raw 4.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.01 for Macintosh or Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows, or versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 3.0." So it should work.

Tougher-laws-for-"dangerous-breeds"
Luke W replied to NorthernStarPits's topic in General Dog Discussion
She claimed the new laws would apply to mixed breeds which “visibly contain the traits of these restricted breeds”. What? Like four legs and a tail? -
Some really nice photos here everyone! Quiche: Coffee and a biscuit.

Need to know what camera and what version of Adobe Photoshop Elements you are running.

This is a good start for clicker training. http://www.clickertraining.com/basics and you could start by buying a clicker and a book: http://www.clickertraining.com/store/?item=clickerkits

A clicker doesn't replace a treat, a clicker is just a way to tell your dog.."you just did the right thing"...you have to follow it up with a reward of some kind (food or play usually). There's nothing unhealthy about having a pocket of treats - just make them healthy ones As for a 'teaching lead' use a normal lead and cate train...imo.

It's the pink tongue that's a giveaway, isn't it.

That's really him and he's really standing on my kitchen bench. Couch (also known as bench access ramp) in foreground

Yeah, the hand is much better now. After the last disaster, which I've realised was the result of poor planning, I've decided to create some drawing and mockups. I've taken photos of all my bits and peices and I'm started to shuffle things around looking for the best plan. The bucket of sparks isn't pictured because I don't want to touch it until I have to.

Shooting in RAW allows more manipulation and more choice with less degredation than shooting in JPG. How much more or less depends on the photographer, the scene and the photograph. All at the expense of storage requirements and processing time.

? Sorry no idea what that means lol It just means it can pick up nice detail far away!

Lens hoods help reduce lens flare and increase contrast and color saturation. Especially when shooting in the same direction as the sun. Yes, you need different sized hoods for different lenses. Yes, I use an external flash rather than a pop-up one. Does my camera even have a pop-up one? Not sure, let me look... Wow, it does., Never used it.

There's some really good ideas here... http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=156613

Well, he's smart. He's put the cellophane back on the bench and the cardboard on the floor in front of the couch. Of course the cardboard and cellophane aren't quite in original condition.
