  1. I had a Kelpie cross do that once - at the Red Hill Lookout, and she did hop on her hind leg afterwards for a few steps... We were gob-smacked when we ran to the lookout, looked over, and there she was, nose to ground, pretending she *meant* to do that... ... and it was at least five metres, too
  2. Now, see - that distinction makes all the difference to my attitude ;)
  3. .... but maybe they are following socialisation programs that *produce* excellent companion dogs? I do - and my breed was developed as a companion breed in any case, so it is one of the main criteria I use when selecting breeding animals - ie: does this animal have the innate temperament to produce a stable, confident, affectionate companion? I get a bit narky when people are disparaging of registered breeders who happily refer to breeding companion dogs - I mean, seriously: what the hell else are most breeds of dogs if not companions and family members???
  4. Allerzeit, that sounds optimistic - will be thinking of you again tomorrow :) Mirawee, thankyou - he looks a little weird atm, teenagery-ish. His sire has his class at the Canberra Royal tomorrow, he and I are both still sort of novices but I am sure we are going to have a great day amongst all the gorjus dorgs
  5. Oh - Allerzeit I am crossing everything possible that Nova has the best possible result
  6. Not so much "Rising Star" as "Maybe Hopeful"... Posmo Y So Serious and his sire, Char's Portentious Parti
  7. O-M-FRICKING-G!! Sounds absolutely bat-shit crazy!!! I live in Canberra, shuddering to think he might have been lurking in my area... Although, it is not unusual for an ACT magistrate to remand them in custody, it is *really* unusual for an ACT magistrate to slap such perps with anything like a credible sentence... so I can't wait to see the results of the sentencing hearing - not.
  8. This will be my first ever entry at the Royal - I am *thrilled* beyond measure!!! I have made, for the last twenty years, my best efforts to at least walk past the dog rings every Royal Canberra Show - despite my poor kids' heartfelt pleas to get to the showrides ASAP!! I have pined after each and every beautiful dog I saw, and met (briefly) some very patient, very pleasant exhibitors. Every time I have dragged my feet through the passageways, resisting my darling offsprings' groans of boredom (and increasingly strident demands to Get To The Show Immediately), I have counted off the years until my longterm goal's target year. That was last year. This year, I am "dipping my toe in the water", having had two expeditions out to Specialities, and several missed shows where circumstances did not allow me to present my dogs to the judge. And - icing on the cake - my boy is in coat (yay) and has emerged out the other side of the Teenage Monster Phase as a confident, happy little guy I am proud to have on the end of the lead. So if I am OTT and waaaaaaay manic on Friday - please give me the benefit of the doubt, I have been building up to this day for a couple of decades, and may be a tad... enthusiastic. Cheers - and here is hoping the weather is kind!
  9. So - clearly I am skiving off and avoiding housework :p Does no one else has nightmares about fumbling around in their dog's mouth in order to show the judge - and realising it is a disgusting, stained, stinky, toothless mess? Or being unable to find their way to the ring, because somehow their vision has suddenly been restricted to a blurry pinhole (a lá migraine vision) and this for some reason necessitates crouching nose to ground to find the path... whilst being aware of the skirt that is normally halfway to your knee is no longer covering the essentials? I had a real heart-stopper the other night, I somehow managed to commit some serious criminal misdemeanour while in my gazebo and was rooted to the spot, aghast and aware of my debased and immoral (but completely incomprehensible) crime, as The Police slo-moed towards me...
  10. Lol, Alyosha - I have this "syndrome" where if I am not 10 minutes *early* I am panicking about being late...so turning up for shows is doing my head in, I want to be *an Hour* early!!!
  11. ... Pomeranian? http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/ll237/doggeek/eNRGeez%20Pomeranians/?start=all
  12. I have been reliably informed that this girl has now been found. :)
  13. .... so.... had a nightmare last night about being at the Royal and ending up somehow involved in an unspecified serious criminal act... Woke just as the police were arriving, I am very stressy about the whole showing thing deep down, apparently!!! Anyone else have any entertaining dreams before showing?
  14. I actually followed her down Walker Crescent, through to La Perouse Street, and then lost her on Bremer Street - she was actually headed west, towards Manuka. This was yesterday at 12.30/40, I spotted her in my front garden and grabbed a lead to try and catch her - she moves so fast that I was always half a block behind her. I tried just to keep her in sight, but she was clearly intent on moving rather than sight-seeing - if it helps reassure you she was moving through well away from the roads, keeping on the footpath or in the front yards - although I think she did cross Bremer Street to go through the walkway to Well's Garden. I would say she went through to the Brumbie's as there was a man with two Staffords I met on Bremer Street coming from Captain Cook Crescent, and he hadn't seen her. Good luck, I will keep my eyes peeled.
  15. Anita, thankyou for letting me know, I am sure it is already written up somewhere for me... I am a ghastly disaster when it comes to understanding what is written plainly.
  16. Oh, that *is* cool - I was quite happy to pay for Sunday if ( *if* ) I am required to. I did have one dog and one puppy entered, I have to notify them the puppy won't be competing (Puppycop/Huckleberry/Robin is now desexed and living large in Melbourne) but I still only got the one entry ticket... but if the kids get wristbands that is a major score! Question - is it better to call now and say the puppy won't be coming, or is it fine to do it on the day? (sooooo exciting)
  17. I only have the one entry ticket - single entry only, admit one only. Not entitled to passout, either?? Just as well I am not anticipating having to come back on Sunday ;)
  18. Willow and Moo Dog Grooming in Robina - the owner has a Lagotto, and also a Portugese Water Spaniel, I believe: http://www.willowandmoo.com.au/
  19. Huh - I forgot to ask you to take me off the list... No Pom babies for Enrgeez at this stage. Cheers, and good luck for everyone, hope the puppy fairy is kind!
  20. Thankyou Steve, I am fine - still feel like a bit of a dick that I didn't realise how inconsistant I was being, but hey, it is all a learning curve.
  21. Onya, SSM, I get what you mean ;) I will add your pat to her evening cuddle - ta!
  22. Oh, yeah, she is fine - a little *too* fine, I have to pen her to stop her running around like normal. I rang the vet just to check - they don't use stitches, I need to take the dressing off in a couple of days if it hasn't fallen off itself. Cheers Nic
  23. Not actually sure... I have only had one pet speyed by this vet and am cudgeling my brains to remember if she had a dressing too... I assumed that it was simply to protect the wound? And that I can take it off in a day or so...?
