I like mine
-
I contacted several breeders years before I intended to get a puppy. My main interest was in learning about the different lines. I made it clear that I was after information more than anything at that point as I wasn't going to get a puppy whilst my old dog was still alive. My main goal was to find out which breeders had the sort of dogs I was after and was also interested in seeing what they were like as people. I basically created a shortlist of people I would be happy to go to if they had a litter on the ground when I was eventually ready. I don't think it caused any harm and would be interested to hear from breeders on here what they think about that.

If you get any double coated breed then be prepared for hair in the house. It stands to reason that the more hair you get out with a brush the less you get in the carpet but it doesn't seem to matter how long or how much hair I get out of my dog I still find fluff bunnies behind the doors and hair all over the carpet. Invest in an electrostatic broom - they drag all the hair out of the carpet

What Is A Good Outdoor Bed For A Dog?
RubyBlue replied to Bluefairy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Bunnings also has trampoline beds. My snooza trampoline bed also has much shorter legs than the other non branded one (but cost only a fraction of the price). Just a note - none of my dogs has ever really liked them. They'd use them if told but given the choice will always pick the ground. -

Hi Jade, Are you able to have a chat to your neighbours about it? Mention the new puppy and say she is in training and you are trying to be consistent with her now so that she grows out of this stage...or some such. Most (normal) people melt when it comes to puppies so it shouldn't be unreasonable for you to politely ask for their patience and perhaps ask them to keep you informed if she is carrying on whilst you are out. Generally people are less concerned about issues when they know they are being kept on top of. If you ask them to be involved by keeping tabs on her whilst you are out then they are more likely to approach you if the problem escalates than lash out at your dogs. If you can't actually speak with them for whatever reason then perhaps stick a note in the letterbox. If all else fails then an alcoholic beverage for christmas usually heals all wounds Good luck and welcome to DOL

Retrieving & Field Training Talk

Friday was great - thanks TSD. It was lovely to do something fun, outdoors and dog related. And yes....good break from study ;) -
I think alot of people on this forum are different to regular pet owners that vets often see. I imagine some of then are in the practice of keeping the pet so it doesn't get put outside or hassled by the kids. I think in my birds case there was a bit of milking it for the overnight boarding fee.

Supralorin - well its that time of year (this year she is trying a strip dance for me ) Microchip - can't really put a collar and id tag on her (shes a bit more valuable than a budgie). The implants go straight into muscle so they are given an anesthtic first. I have rung up a regular vet about her in the past and got a "...uh...is that a big bird?"

I prefer to take my pets home. I haven't had any problems doing it with the dogs but did have to challenge the bird vet over it. I called them up about it and said something along the lines of "I'm still not clear on why she needs to stay over night - I would have thought that she'd be more comfortable in familiar surroundings and I'd be more comfortable knowing that if something did go wrong then I'd be there to take her to the emergency vet". They let me take her home after that. - she had had a microchip and supralorin implant put in.......

Fenced In Off Leash Beaches And Parks In Melbourne
RubyBlue replied to tiamariatrace's topic in General Dog Discussion
Depends how far you are willing to drive. There is a small fully fenced off-lead area at Knox park (corner of Scoresby road and Ferntree gully road). Also where KODC trains - I only go down on a Sunday but it gets pretty busy. There is also another one at Aranga park Doncaster (near Springvale road Eastern fwy intersection) that is much bigger but might be a bit of a hike for you. Both these parks have a small amount of fixed agility equipment and water available. Aranga park doesn't have bags but does have bins. -
I've moved a few times without any dramas. I'd leave something with ur fresh scent on it where they are going to stay the first time you leave them alone. Other than that enjoy your lovely new home

How is she with collar grabs? It may not be the lead but the pressure on her neck that she is resisting. Sorry if you have already done this but if not grab her collar and shove a small high value treat in her mouth. Start with very gentle pressure and immediate treats then slowly build up to having her pull forward into collar to reach the treat. The trick is to keep it positive - pressure on the lead/collar must equal good things. Good luck.
