The vet that wanted to cut half of my dog's face away was vehement that it was a malignant cancer too... then I took my dog to a vet you may know very well, and they correctly diagnosed the issue as a large fibroid... which eventually actually cleared up all by itself... There is always hope... vets can be wrong... T.

Fingers crossed that all lumps and bumps are benign in nature. Please give Jeune a few extra cuddles from me... T.

The current rehoming system for ex-racing greys is already stretched to cater to the numbers needing rehoming... and getting it done safely... there is no way they are going to cope with a massive influx of dogs needing new homes asap. The words that are being reported about getting rid of greyhounds completely in NSW is just BSL wrapped up in a different blanket... grrr! So - if greyhounds are banned in NSW - what the hell are they going to do with all of them already here? I don't see a happy ending here... T.

At least with the pounds, there is a paper trail on each dog taken by the rescue... and this paper trail can be used as evidence of any shortcomings the rescue may have that can be followed up by authorities... If they are refused animals from the pound system, then they will just source animals from Gumtree or the like... and paperwork/paper trails may not be available. The problem with hoarders is that they (and their followers) don't believe they have a problem... they are "saving" all these animals, don't you know? T.

Always a possibility... definitely! I had a dog diagnosed as having a really nasty cancer by a well respected vet, but when I insisted on testing, the lump was actually a fibroid... There is always hope... and I've got everything crossed that the vet might be wrong about it being cancer... *grin* T.

The 16D clause only means that you don't have to pay the registration fee to get the animal out of the pound... and as stated in other posts here, you need to have the animal registered properly by the time 12 months is up... preferrably rehomed and registered to new owners. Many pounds expand upon this exemption by only charging clause holding rescues the microchip fee to release the animal... technically, they could still charge an adoption fee on top of that... Individual pounds also have the right to refuse to deal with a particular rescue regardless of their 16D exemption status. There is nothing stopping any rescue adopting any animal from any pound - 16D or not... as long as they front up the fee, the animal is theirs... T.

I remember that day... was awesome fun... you have the most darling little dogs, and they all love their mummy so much... Fingers crossed that Jeune's lump is just an old girl fibroid... T.

That first photo of him waiting is absolutely gorgeous... look at his dear grey face... More hugs for you DD... it must be heartbreaking knowing that his time with you is so limited now. T. -
*dons flame suit* Keeping dogs in kennels is not necessarily inhumane or completely detrimental to their health or wellbeing. If they are taken out regularly, socialised, and are supplied with sufficient bedding for the weather conditions... many dogs actually do just fine. I'd rather see a dog kenneled where it gets those basic needs met by the staff (and/or volunteers), than in an overcrowded foster situation where a big heart doesn't necessarily equate to having any common sense... and yes, there are quite a few rescues whose foster carers fall under that category... It's not as simple as saying kennels are "bad" and foster carers are "good"... it actually comes down to whether the individual animal needs are met sufficiently to deem it rehomable to the general public. *removes flame suit* All that said, kenneling any animal for literally years would probably raise some alarm bells for me as to the adoptability of the animal in question.
