Licking/chewing at feet can also be a sign of stress or anxiety... usually only lick/chew the front feet though... Does the problem affect all 4 feet? Does he also get red or itch on his tummy? T.

Looking For A Big Strong Wading/shell Pool
tdierikx replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just thinking... maybe your lovely hubby could design a permanent pool for the doggies? With proper draining for easy cleaning... I'm sure he could do it... T. -
We already have cheaper registrations for desexed pets... and registration should be paid by the 6 month of age mark... not that you'd know it by the number of entire unchipped and unregistered pets that end up in the pound system. Again, it comes down to policing the laws and regulations... and that certainly ain't happening... T.

It's not so much about those not doing the right thing Willem... it's about making all these laws and regulations and then not policing them effectively... Anyways... it comes down to individual owner decision as to whether they desex their dog at whatever age they feel is appropriate. There are pros and cons on both sides of that debate, and we should leave it at that, OK? T.

As a pedigree cat breeder I find that offensive. Firstly, average litter size of 4 for cats. Secondly, maximum of 1 litter a year. And thirdly, all my kittens are desexed before they go to their new homes. It's the ferals, and cats at large whose kittens are the ones which majority end up in pounds and shelters! I certainly didn't mean it to be offensive... was just a little shocked at the difference is all. There is no mention of purebreds with regards to the new rules... just the numbers of animals allowed... and those with standard issue moggies that allow them to roam about the streets at will would be allowed 3 times the number of entire females than those who own just one dog (whatever the breed or mix). Thanks Willem... have passed on to my friend. T.

Bats are actually protected... so if someone is poisoning them, it's a crime... *sigh* There's a colony not far from one of my friends' house, and I love watching them all leave en masse for their evening foraging when I visit her place... just magical to watch them all flying in large groups. T.

I must admit that I do that... but the auto settings I use haven't really failed me yet... *grin* Not to mention that I bought the 60D in 2011 and it's never skipped a beat - and I have used it a LOT! Can't afford a new camera at the moment (starving student), but can dream, yes? T.

All of the male dogs I've owned over the years have stayed entire... and I haven't had any of the "issues" that are attributed to undesexed male dogs. Probably because my boys have all been well socialised and obedience trained. I will say that other undesexed male dogs occasionally would front up to my boys when at the park, but my boys always looked to me for guidance in those cases and never reacted negatively to the challenges. My undesexed boys were both Rottweilers... *grin*... and as soft as teddy bears... hopeless as guard dogs really... lol! That's why I also had females (desexed)... T.

Thank you Willem... will relay location on so they can get out there and find out what's going on... T.

A friend of mine is with WIRES, and she's in contact with the team down that way... can you please give me a more exact location where the dead bats have been sighted? WIRES want to get out there and find out what's happening... T.

Lyssavirus affects approximately 4% of the total Australian bat population... and most of those cases have been found up in far north Queensland. It is very rare for Lyssavirus to be this far south, but I'd still not be handling any bat you found - they harbour other zoonotic diseases that won't kill you, but you don't want to catch anyways. Maybe contact your local wildlife rescue group (WIRES most likely) and ask them if they might be amenable to looking into the cause of the large number of dead bats you are seeing? ETA: Have messaged a friend of mine who does bat rescue to ask her thoughts... T.

I went all out T- Its a canon 5D. And i am so so in love with it. It's not going to be stolen because it barely ever leaves my hands  The 5D is on my wish list... lol! But I'd happily settle for a 7D... or just stick with the trusty 60D that hasn't ever failed me yet... *grin* T.

Rigby and Axl both went home yesterday - have had photo updates from both families showing them settling nicely. Maxi (now Jessie) is going to her home this evening... Rocky has a meet and greet on Sunday... fingers crossed! Gwena the ring-in is getting a new roomie on Sunday... his name is Bear, and he's a bit timid with strangers too, so they will both need a bit of work before they are ready for adoption. Naughty Gwena barked at a friend that came to visit this morning... lol! I suppose that's better than the run and hide she used to do... T.

Brain Tumour/ Meningitis Or Something Else
tdierikx replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
My foster pup just finished a 10 day course of 200mg twice a day... she's around 9-10kg and about 7 months old. She's fine, but after reading this thread with 2 days left to dose, I was getting a bit worried... T. -

Brain Tumour/ Meningitis Or Something Else
tdierikx replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
So glad to hear she's recovering so well... keep it up Mya! I'd be having a rather strong discussion with the vet that prescribed the high dose long term Metronidazole, and ask what remuneration they are prepared to come to the table with to avoid you discussing their treatment tactics with the AVA. Only 1 entire female to breed... as opposed to THREE fertile female cats??? Has anyone advised the people drawing this up that cats can well outbreed dogs? T.

Bindi gone home today... Rigby and Axl (formerly Jude) are off to their new homes on Friday... ... and Maxi (new name Jessie) will be off to her new home on Saturday. Only Rocky still left from the original 9... and Gwena the ring-in still recovering from a dog attack, but doing really well - she comes over to me and demands that I scratch her itchy scabby spots... lol! T.

Bindi went off to her new home today... and I've been getting photo updates all afternoon... lol! I'm so chuffed for her - she has found the best home ever! T.
