  1. Your own personal dog park... complete with doggies having lots of fun together... heaven! T.
  2. We had a whole litter in rescue that all died from hookworm after worming... the horrid things went so far as to actually chew their way out of the pups stomachs and through the skin! It was the most soul destroying thing I've ever had to try to render assistance for. If ever anyone thought it was ok to skip those regular puppy wormings... tales like these should make you think twice... T.
  3. Those eyes say it all... he truly adores his hooman to bits... T.
  4. I had a mower guy let my dog out one day... rang council, eventually got out of them where the pound was, then rang said pound and described my dog - wirey/shaggy coated, border collie marked (black and white), medium sized, and answers to the name Rebel... nope, no dog like that here... so actually go to said pound to check, and there is my dog! And the cage card desciption matched mine almost exactly! Sometimes pound staff aren't all that crash hot at knowing what they have... and don't get me started on councils giving advice as to where their pound facilities are - it took me THREE calls to get that info... T.
  5. Shadow was about 5 or 6... we didn't have an accurate age because she came to us as a stray about 18 months before she passed. T.
  6. What colour is your pup? Black needs good light to show well... and white/blonde needs a shadier spot so you don't over-expose... T.
  7. Hemangiosarcoma is one of the nastier cancers... the only thing that surgery or chemo will do is buy us humans time... not so great for the dog. I think you are doing great by just making sure Zena's last weeks are quality ones... I had a female Rotti present us with what looked like a bone or stick lodged in her mouth... further investigation at the vet revealed that it was a hemangiosarcoma tumour, and the diagnosis was that her insides were riddled with the darned things... one week later she couldn't swallow anything anymore, and surgery wasn't an option, so we had to make that final decision to give her her wings... Make beautiful memories now with your sweet Zena... and massive hugs to you from me and my fur family... T.
  8. But you are a good stalker to have Powerlegs... *grin* T.
  9. I'm positive that the only thing that will hurt my soul more than losing my beloved Woosie will be when my parents pass on... my Dad is now 81, and Mum is 78 - both in good health, but no-one lives forever, right? Then again, losing my heart dog was probably one of the MOST painful experiences I've ever had to deal with... you truly do feel like a part of your own soul has gone... and it hurts forever. (I'm losing my composure just typing this) T.
  10. It may take time for your dog to get used to the Phenomav... or the dosage may need adjusting... I'd be calling the vet and checking with them before dropping his dosage. Rear end weakness, lethargy, etc, are known side effects of Phenomav... but sometimes get somewhat better as the dog gets more used to the drug in their system. Talk to your vet... T.
  11. Alternately, set up the situation... I pulled a vine down to just out of pups' reach for the following... T.
  12. Exercise before trying to take photos... tire them out some... Training sit/stay with food rewards... Squeaky toy held above camera and shoot down for adorable "I'm really interested in you" shots... works wonders for older playful dogs too... see photo I got the other week... ... or you can go for action shots showing off cute dog in full play mode... T.
  13. As others have said, there is the possibility that environmental factors can play a part in both cruciate and elbow issues... so, unless the vet is willing to write a report stating beyond any doubt that these issues in your dog are 100% hereditory/genetic, the I'm afraid you may not have any case against the breeder... Without knowing the breed (large or small), it's hard to pinpoint whether there may be a genetic predisposition to developing the issues you are reporting. T.
  14. Gorgeous photos... and a lovely interaction captured... The Taronga "dads" (Shikamoo and Samaki) don't play much with the little ones... more like tolerate their antics until the kids get bored... lol! Shabani is the most likely adult male to actually play with the toddlers, and he's really good with them, he's so gentle and tolerant. Mostly it's Koko that is singled out for playtime with the babies, and given that she's not to be trusted around newborns, she has shown she's an awesome aunty when they are older. When Fumo was tiny, Sule (Sandali's littlest brother) was his babysitter, and would often be seen taking his duties very seriously, spending as much tiime as he could with his little charge. Then as the other 2 babies came along, Kuma, Shiba, and Lisa would tend to stick together in what we called "mothers' group", and poor Sule didn't get much of a look in after that... It's possible that the large size of our group - and the current introductions of 3 new adult females - has contributed to the kids singling out the "safer" options for their adult playmates. Then again, as we have 3 toddlers of fairly similar ages, they play a lot together too, and really have no need to find alternate playmates. T.
  15. Be still my beating heart... I LOVE Pudden! T.
  16. Not to be confused with NSW's CAR (Companion Animal Register)... *sigh* CAR in the email - Central Animal Records - is a national database... T.
  17. Fair enough on the Royal Canin Danois... I used it as an example because my Dane cross girl did well on it as a young'un is all... also, my example here was more as smaller meal to supplement the frames... T.
  18. Hahaha! Has Secret watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Bunnies can be scary! T.
  19. He doesn't look underweight to me... decent coverage over the hip bones looks good. He may be a bit ribby, but he's also still growing at his age I'd say. At the boarding kennels I work at, we have had dogs that didn't tolerate minced frames, but were competely fine with whole ones... no idea why that is, but they would get squirty on the minced version, and nice solid poops on the whole ones. I wouldn't discount frames until you at least try a couple of days and see how he goes. If he is allergic to chicken, you'll know soon enough. My 32kg Dane cross girl gets one frame a day, and is maintaining her condition/weight just fine... so if your boy is nearly twice her size, I'd try at least 2 frames a day, and add other supplemental foods as required - like Royal Canin large breed Junior (as he's over 12 months and doesn't really need puppy feed any more). T.
  20. Hahahaha! It was a worthy sacrifice of a mermaid though... lucky Neko! T.
  21. I'd be trying chicken carcasses whole, so he has to chew them up before swallowing - 2-3 a day until you get a weight (read body condition) on him that you like, then feed to maintain that weight/condition... supplement with fruit and vegetables for roughage. You can cook the veg with stock to make them more appealing if he's a bit fussy about them at first. T.
  22. All news media reports are having a field day with where and how this attack occurred... Pitty mix isn't helping the dog's chances - whether it was trying to help or not... T.
  23. At the very least, I'd be asking for an xray... T.
