  1. Funnily enough, most of that comes from good socialisation and training... very few dogs are born that way... You don't need to do a PhD thesis to know that... *sigh* T.
  2. No dog is going to fit the description given by Erny without some effort on the part of the owners... if you train it, it will more likely do what you ask of it... if you love it, it will return that too... if you leave it in the back yard and don't interact with it, it will be more likely to be antisocial... Personally I like my dogs to have distinct characters and personalities... a little bit "broken" is my perfect dog... *grin* T.
  3. Came across a couple who were looking for a white male staffy... anyone got any ideas where they may source one? They are currently looking at rescue, but the only white staffy we have is a girl, and they have their heart set on a boy. Nice couple whose old white staffy boy recently passed away at an advanced age. T.
  4. Silly dog hasn't licked any spider spray has he? T.
  5. I'm not an "Average Joe", so I wouldn't want someone else deciding what kind of dog would "suit" MY lifestyle... my girls are pretty much chalk and cheese in their breed mixes and temperaments - but they BOTH suit ME just fine thank you! I'd be a little suss about someone offering to take behavioural data AND a DNA swab of my dogs to try to determine which breeds tend to display certain behavioural traits - environment plays a huge part in how a dog will "turn out" behaviourally IMHO... T.
  6. Aren't blue Staffords about as "rare" as rocks nowadays? The average Joe looking to buy a dog doesn't really think much about breed standards or health testing - they just want the pretty puppy... *sigh* T.
  7. Sending another hug for Steve... he could do with one methinks... Crossing everything that Grover comes good nice and quick, and you find out what caused it... so that it never happens again! T.
  8. Crossing fingers that Grover made steady improvement overnight Trish... Hugs from me to Steve, and hoping that he's holding up OK... T.
  9. Jasmine certainly is the luckiest girl to have found herself with you guys... she and Jack do make a great pair! T.
  10. I'll second your opinion on that! Grrrr! T.
  11. It's truly amazing the crosses you see in rescue... the strangest mix I've see so far was a Staffy/Maltese. Funnily enough, a lovely couple came in looking for a Staffy (for hubby) or a Maltese (for wife) - I said that we may just be able to fill the bill with ONE dog... lol! Needless to say they both actually fell in love with the "fluffy Staffy", and they adopted her. She is now living the good life heaped with lots of love and attention from her new skin parents... T.
  12. So glad that the girls both came through their surgeries so well... and that is the funniest description of Tammy's antics... hehe! T.
  13. How handy are you with needle and thread k9angel? You could make some little Santa hats for Chloe's babies too... Jasmine is one lucky girl... will she have a present under the tree too? T.
  14. Got everything crossed for Tammy to fly through her procedure... she may be old and a little infirm, but the wonderful care and attention to her needs since you got her will surely pull her through... T.
  15. They charge that because some people believe that the dog with the funky name is a "pure" breed... and $400 to $500 is actually on the cheap end of what these crosses are selling for actually... T.
  16. Awwww... pass on a cuddle from me please! She's simply stunning! T.
  17. I had a male Rotti that did the exact same thing for years... then one day when he turned 5, he grew another brain cell, and it stopped happening... *grin*... I reckon you have a gig gormless puppy who has no clue... The licking, is it only your face he does it to? Pups show their submission by face licking and cleaning - maybe he's doing that? I'm not sure exactly how to do it, but he needs his confidence boosted somehow, and I reckon that you'll see a totally different dog once that happens. Yelling is only going to make him more submissive methinks. How about when he does something you don't like, you just "uuhh" him and walk away or turn your back on him - essentially withdrawing the attention he is seeking with these behaviours? T.
  18. One of my Rotti boys was perfectly fine if he had a full GA, but reacted badly to sedation - took ages to come out of the sedation properly, and got a big lump where the injection site for it was... T.
  19. Excellent news Caz! So are you going to have her get a dental? T.
  20. Hahaha @ Cyn! He's still a goldmine of info when he's not off on holidays though, isn't he? Cazstaff... did you ever bring home an injured octopus or a baby fruit bat found on a dead mummy bat? My mum wasn't game to come into my room when we lived on the farm - the strange critters that would be sharing my bed scared her... especially the 2 carpet snakes... she doesn't do snakes very well... they eventually got relocated out to the shed to roam and eat any vermin. Then there were the pet rats, mice, every stray dog, and even the odd cat (which I'm allergic to), or litters of kittens that were going to be drowned by the local farmers. Funny how it took me 40 years to finally get involved in structured rescue... lol! Who would thunk I had the aptitude for it? hahaha! Leah is a natural - we need many more like her I reckon. Say G'day to her for me, and tell her I reckon she's a top notch foster carer, and all around great young lady, OK? T.
  21. Your Leah is a rescue angel in the making, huh Caz? She really has the touch when it comes to animals... nurture that... she'll go far with that awesome skill... Obviously Leah is a chip off the old block... right Caz? What does she want to do when she's old enough to make a living? *grin* I reckon she's pretty well "grown up" already... T.
  22. My two 30kg dogs - one Rottie X and one Labrador - would both prefer to be inside and lazing on the couch than out in the yard. All of my foster puppies have picked up this trait within the first week of coming to my place as well... lol! But at least they can be coaxed to go outside and play zoomies more often... T.
