  1. OK - maybe the vet can't give you the information you seek because he hasn't sighted the dead puppy. If it died at the new owner's place, then he may have disposed of it himself - and no-one will ever really know 100% whether he is telling the truth about it dying. The vet has been plenty forthcoming with the info regarding his treatment of the puppy in question, and the fact that it was released back into the care of the owner after x number of days on a drip... so IMHO (based on the info posted here only), we only have the new owner's word that this pup has passed away. As for the papers and his asking for them or reimbursement for them if he can't have them - do you charge different prices for pups without papers or on limited register? If so, reimburse him for the difference and be done with it... he shouldn't need physical copies of them (even photocopies) once the pup is deceased - and they have to be sent back to Dogs Vic anyways under their rules for notification of a deceased registered dog. How much did he pay for the pup in question? He's obviously looking for some sort of financial compensation, so your best way to end this is to just give him a full refund and avoid all of the current hassles - as well as any future hassles if he decides to come back for a second bite at the apple... T.
  2. If you dognap ChiChi MM, I know where you live, and may just have to dognap her from you... *grin* T.
  3. "Sniff test"? OK - now that's a good one... I've smelled Parvo and I've smelled HGE... they are not even close to the same smell. They are both very nasty though, and in either case, the dog should be on IV's until it shows good signs of improvement. Both can kill young puppies if not treated properly early. Fingers crossed for your little one that is now getting good care from a vet that actually knows what they are doing. T.
  4. The updates are great - thanks to those passing them on... and the photos really made an impact too... tears of joy to see little ChiChi sitting pretty in her fancy jacket... *grin* Hang in there Jed, we miss you so much... and are thinking of you constantly... T.
  5. Different lines of a single breed... one is bred for "working" and the other for other things like showing and pets... DNA results will be identical for both strains of the breed - but they are different in more ways than that... T.
  6. My girls have always been OK with each other within hours of a fight because I matter-of-factly just take them off to the vet (separately) for a check over and any patching up that's needed, and then just carry on as usual... if I'm not freaking, they aren't peaking... *grin* T.
  7. That snake looks so tiny in your photos... small enough to step on and kill it even... T.
  8. I hope your babies are feeling OK this morning... My 2 girls are very strictly supervised when there is food involved - basically when whatever they have is going to take longer than a second to swallow. Trouble is a Labrahoover and Zeddy likes to chew every mouthful. The last time my 2 had a barney it cost me $650 to patch Zeddy up - and you can still see the scars on her legs from where Trouble had ripped them up. Trouble goes for the legs and shakes Zeddy about by them - no mean feat when your dogs are both over 25kgs. Trouble has a scar on her face from a puncture wound to the top of her head allowing a bit of muck into her sinus and developing a huge abcess - that cost me $400 to fix up... I'm super vigilant about their body language - especially if we are all out in the yard playing with the foster pups... that's usually the catalyst for the girls to do something stupid, and then it will be on. Zeddy is 11 years old, and shouldn't be trying to play rough zoomies and wrestles with the others, especially when Trouble is in Crazy Labrador mode. I let Zeddy play with James (foster Dane X) for very short bursts, as I don't want her doing damage to her old body (her knees aren't the best and I'd like to not have to have surgery). When my girls go for it, it is with intent... and all I can do is to play referee and pull one off if she has the other down on the ground - neither will back off until exhausted, no matter what I do to try to stop them. T.
  9. You'd be amazed at how well a larger dog can avoid stomping on a smaller dog or puppy... *grin* I'd supervise play, and see about teaching your Rottie girl "gentle" or "leave it" if you think she's getting a bit too boisterous... T.
  10. Pearl had 12 big healthy chocolate puppies... at an ungodly hour to boot... *grin* Last I heard Pearl and babies were doing well, and jamieson was catching up on some well earned sleep... T.
  11. Whilst I was on the phone to my mum the other night bawling about Jed and her babies, she reminded me of the time I went into the storm swollen (and raging may I add) creek after our dog who was swept into the torrent while trying to catch a neighbour's duck that was floating downstream. Mum said I always was the type to disregard my own safety when it came to animals. I can fully understand why and how Jed went back into her burning house to save her babies... it's instinct and love... traits that Jed has in abundance. So glad to hear that Jed's surgery went well yesterday, and thank you so much to Steve for posting the pics of Chi Chi and the others all safe and looking well after their ordeal. I have bought a Lotto ticket for tonight's $20 million draw (NSW Lotto) in honour of Jed and her babies... I'd really love to win big so that I can offer some real assistance to a lady I respect and admire. It's so hard being so far away and not having much else to offer... T.
  12. How old is your Rottie girl? I foster pups too, and my older dogs have been taught "gentle", and "enough" - so that if play gets a little rough for my liking, I just say one of those words, and it either gets more gentle, or they stop... I currently have 2 foster pups - one is a 7.5 month old Dane/Ridgey cross, and the other is a 14 week old tiny Terrier cross... to see them playing zoomies in the yard is totally hysterical. James, the larger pup, has been taught "gentle" and "enough" also - so when Flower (the tiny terrorist) starts to try to get James to play rough, I just say "gentle" and he slows down the harder play - he is such a good boy! That said - I currently have James and Trouble (my adult Labrador) having a very noisy and boisterous wrestling match going on in the hallway... *grin* T.
  13. Hmmm... life span for a Shiba Inu is apparently between 12 to 16 years (Wikipedia), so Loki would be considered "middle aged" yes? Apart from being generally "weird", do you think that maybe he is having sight issues? The fact that he gets more anxious at night could indicate something along those lines... worth a look into at least? You mention Loki's breeder... have you called them about his new behaviour issues? They may have some insights into age related mental/physical deterioration - and hopefully some tips to better deal with it. Is he a bit of a mummy's boy? Sleeping on your fave PJ's, and the fact that he comes around to the front door when he escapes, makes me think he may be wanting your company when he's feeling a little anxious. Maybe going through your old clothes and giving him some to sleep with might make him feel less stressed. Living with a neurotic dog can be very upsetting... I feel for you... keep yer chin up, OK? T.
  14. Is there room to slip a pair of small sharp scissors between the fur and the glue? You may be able to gently trim it out... or a vet may be able to run a scalpel around the sides to gently cut it out - especially if your girl is OK with having her paws examined... T.
  15. An awesome effort by all involved and great teamwork to at least make this part of Jed's nightmare situation go a whole lot more smoothly. Kudos to each and every person involved - you are all legends! T.
  16. My furkids send happy healing wags to Tyson... keep wagging sweet man! T.
  17. I just can't get my head around the tragedy of all this... it's my worst nightmare as a dog owner. I get chills down my spine just trying to comprehend the magnitude of losing 12 of your beloved furkids in one tragic hour. My very best thoughts are heading Jed's way that she makes a full physical recovery from her own injuries - and that the inevitable emotional scars she will suffer will also become less painful over time. I do not know Jed personally, but as a regular DOL addict, I have read her postings on many topics - and she always makes sense, never gets into "fights" about the silly stuff, and is always there with the best workable advice whenever anyone needs it. The light will be dimmer in here until she comes back to us... Now, as some of you may already suspect, I have a slight problem with giving "respect" to others - especially faceless and nameless people in the ether of an internet forum... but Jed is one person that immediately had, and will always have, my utmost respect. She personifies dignity and levelheadedness in this crazy old world that we live in. I once said to my mother that she made me a better person just because I know her... and I also think Jed is one of those people... T.
  18. I didn't have any candles, so I rang my Mum and cried for Jed and her dogs instead - then I hugged my dogs for a very long time and cried with them too. T.
  19. I get the warm fuzzies when I see photos of Jack and his heart dog Jasmine... they make a really good pair... T.
  20. The other option is to ask the owners if they really actually still want to keep the dog - and offer to help them rehome it, or contact the local rescue groups for help to rehome it... T.
  21. Awww... he's a total spunky-bum boy!! T.
  22. My old Rotti girl took one look at the roos and decided the safest place was behind me... and she did the same for cows... my uncle's Maltese thought both were for herding up... errr! T.
