I actually have a series of photos of the mother chimp and her baby - it was so sweet that I couldn't pass up the chance to rapid shot her... *grin* I took 1600 photos at the zoo... errr! The tiger cubs are too cute for words, but the light reflecting off the glass and masses of people cramming for a look made getting decent photos bloody hard! Got plenty of daddy tiger before they put him away and let the mum and bubs out... I also got a lot of seagulls flying (most in good focus too) at Darling Harbour. Hoping for some decent sunny weather during the week soon to go back to the Zoo without the massive crowds - try to get some better tiger cub shots... T.

This stunning chap was at the Chiness Garden - hiding in the shrubbery... Seagulls Hope you like viewing these as much as I enjoyed taking them... *grin* T.

I don't need a sign nowadays... Zeddy is plenty happy to let strangers know there is a dog on the premises... *grin* T. -
Dog Laws In The Australian Capital Territory
tdierikx replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was told by the police (in NSW) that a "Beware of Dog" sign can be taken as an admission that your dog may bite - and thus could be used against you should some idiot get bitten on your property. The recommendation was a sign that asks people to keep the gate shut instead. I lived with 4 Rotti's and a large scruffy mutt at the time... and the mailman used to actually stop at my front gate and walk up to the house gate and feed them all Schmacko's. Their bark when the mailman was coming was pure excitement - not a nasty bark between them for their fave daily visitor... *grin* T. -
I still want my Chopper one... *pout*... can't you make a Chopper one on Redbubble so I can get my fix next year... pretty please?? I'll stretch to a combo one of Chopper and Bruno if it's easier to find photos for a calendar... *grin* T.

When my dogs have had pups in the past I've separated the bitch and pups from the others so that she can have some peace and quiet to look after the pups. Each bitch has only had to see the male dog and she'd fly at him for the first 3 weeks, but most were fine with the other bitches having a look at the babies. Funnily enough, my Lab girl was very protective when any of my other dogs came near the pups, but was happy for my brother's dog to come and sit in the box with the babies - go figure? T.

Wanted: Foster Carer Or Rescue For Huskies X 3
tdierikx replied to k9angel's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Alaska is a gorgeous girl Rach. The other night when I visited, she was very curious as to who the stranger was coming up the drive... she definitely has come a long way, and will continue to blossom under your care... of that I have no doubt! T. -
I had a dog that used to freak out completely if put in a vet cage... my vets would let me take him home as soon as he was sternally recumbent. It was the safest thing for the dog in our case... I suppose it comes down to what kind of issue the dog has to be in the clinic for in the first place - and the vet's confidence in the skills of the owner to care for said dog post treatment. T.

Sweet!! Gonna have to bookmark this thread... Thanks ruthless! T.

Found this with Google... fairly general, but covers most things Basset... http://www.just-basset-hounds.com/basset-hound-breed.html When looking at lifespan, well, there are many factors that go into it... bank on about 10-12 years, rather that the upper limit of 14, for this particular girl if she's been bred regularly. Desexing her asap will have preventative benefits for her future health too. T.

It would have to be the EB that managed this feat... Glad she's on the mend and getting nice treats to make her feel better. T.

A gobbet of your saliva on the tick can coax it to unattach itself - don't try to just pluck them off, as you could break off the head and then that can be a bugger to try to dig out - not to mention is unpleasant for the poor dog. Might be time to invest in some Advantix or the like to reduce the chances of finding more of the little buggers... T.

I'm assuming the dog "at fault" here is probably at risk of being identified as a "restricted" breed type in Victoria - would that be correct Nekhbet? Better that the owners are able to say goodbye to it in a dignified manner, rather than it be seized by the council and destroyed by a stranger. My heart goes out to the families and witnesses involved. T.

Gorgeous ad... the grin on the Staffy's face was a classic! My Labrador used to play with 4 whippets at a large dog park - she would regularly outrun them too. She had way more stamina than they did - she could run all day... Love the photos of Tag too... he's gorgeous! T.

How Dd You Convince Your Oh To Get Another Dog?
tdierikx replied to Atanquin's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got rid of the OH... now I can have as many dogs as I want... *grin* T. -
It's a worry when you are waiting for a positive diagnosis of what is wrong with a pup, isn't it? Great news that it's not Parvo... now you can get down to making sure the pups all get the correct treatment, and they will be better in no time... T.

Have you got a 10 day schedule for the Trizine Kirty? It cleared up my foster pup nicely - results were seen by the 3rd day with his poos becoming more solid. I also fed him premium brand puppy kibble to get some weight onto him when his gut started absorbing the nutrients properly. T.

Just like we train our dogs, we have to train our vets IMHO... we need to be comfortable with the person we put our furkids' lives in the hands of, yes? My "vet test" is usually finding one that will listen to my input and take it into consideration when dealing with my pets. Not all owners are clueless about animal health and wellbeing - and a good vet will know that and adjust their consultation methods to accommodate it. Vets that don't usually get short shrift from me. In most cases I know exactly what is wrong with my dog(s), and am just needing to source the medication needed to clear it up. In other cases I have a couple of possibilities and need the vet to help confirm which is actually the case. My current local vet clinic has 2 exceptional vets (Dr Karen and Dr Julie) who do exactly the above - and I trust them with my dogs' lives implicitly. They also love it when I have rescue fosters with some of the less common ailments (barring parvo of course) that the predominately well cared for pets they usually see on a daily basis - it gives them the opportunity to expand their experience... *grin* For example, I had a foster pup that I suspected had either Guiardia or Coccidia - and needed to have a fecal float done in order to determine which. Dr Karen not only did the float, but she actually showed me the slide, and the images of both bugs, and then let me try to determine which one we had from the slide... sure enough, the pup had Coccidia. Then, because the clinic didn't have Baycox (which can be used to treat Coccidia quickly and effectively), we both pored over the MIMS book to find the best drug to treat the pup with. End result, one happy vet who got to diagnose something they don't see very often, one very chuffed foster carer who got to actively participate in said diagnosis, and one puppy seen well on his way to growing up healthy and happy. My vets also understand that some clients don't want to vaccinate their pets annually, or desex them as soon as they are big enough - they suggest it gently with each new dog, but don't constantly harp at you about it once you've told them your preference. My advice? Find a vet that will LISTEN to you and work WITH you when it comes to treating your animals - and stick with them. T.
-
If she has Coccidia, the vet can give you Baycox in a dose for a dog her size, or they can use Trizine... I had a pup with Coccidia once - lots of sloppy poops and not gaining weight like he should but otherwise happy and active - my vet didn't have Baycox, so we used Trizine, which worked a treat... A fecal float will distinquish between Coccidia and Guiardia - which can also have similar symptoms - and you'd use a different drug to kill Guiardia. T.
