Any Canon or Nikon DSLR should be easy enough to use straight out of the box - they have some very nice preset modes that give great pics... all you need to do is point it in the right direction and push the button. I love my Canon 450D - and have never yet tried to use it in manual mode. T.

I think what is being asked is more along the lines of why are some people regularly taking in dogs that they don't have the funds to cover the needs of to get them to a rehomable state - then publicly asking for money from others to cover those costs... As for taking in special needs dogs - well - I adopted one of my special needs fosters. I seriously was worried about what type of person would apply to adopt a pup with serious mobility issues, and what would happen when the novelty factor wore off... oh - and I had completely fallen in love with her... *grin* But... I have the support of some great vets who also love my "special" girl - and give me pretty good rates for anything she may need in that respect. T.

I had 2 Canon's at one point, and the Canon software got very confused about it. I uninstalled the software and edited the registry to remove all trace of Canon, but my PC will still not read either card while in the camera. I purchased a card reader, and now just pull the card from the camera and stick it in the reader to transfer the photos instead... T.

I think a caption contest is in order... lol! T.

My Dog Took Sick Yesterday With A Mystery Illness
tdierikx replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've seen dogs with Parvo, and I've seen dogs with vaccinosis after their needles... 2 days on a drip for Parvo is a very quick turnaround time IMHO... Do you have any other vets near you that you could take your boy to and get a second opinion? The fact that the original vet jumped very quickly to the pts/euth option when all your boy needed was a couple of days on fluids to help him get better is a bit of a concern. T. -

I'd be steering well clear of Pound Rounds Carlo11... no ethical rescue would hound someone to take animals like that. T. -

I'd be contacting the Pound in question and having a serious chat with the manager about his staff breaching the Privacy Act. It's actually a criminal offence to give out a person's details to a 3rd party without express permission to do so. T. -
My Dog Took Sick Yesterday With A Mystery Illness
tdierikx replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just a heads up on the Parvo diagnosis 2 days after being vaccinated... the vaccine could cause a false positive for Parvo as it raises the antibodies in the dog's system to fight the very mild actual dose given in the vaccine. $600 sounds like the vet had your boy on a drip for a couple of days - am I correct? If so, he probably had a case of vaccinosis rather than Parvo. Glad to hear he's doing just great now... and will have a long and happy life with someone who obviously cares for him very much. T. -
*sigh* He just gets cuter and cuter every day, doesn't he? T.

Awesome Rehome Today!
tdierikx replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Banjo is definitely one really lucky boy - his new daddy is a lovely man and Persia adores him... he literally had Mr Shy Boy Banjo eating out of his hand. Both dogs got on just fine sitting and getting treats from him too. I think Banjo has definitely found the best forever home he could ever want. Plan B - I reckon Pickles is stunning too - especially her attitude to life. It definitely shows in her expressions doesn't it? Seeing Persia yesterday was so nice though - she is just as lovely in temperament as she is in looks - and I got to see how Pickles would have been able to move if she didn't have her "problem". Persia has a lovely fluid gait. I still wouldn't swap Pickles for anything though... T. -

Pickles and Persia were saved by the same wonderful community worker from the same aboriginal community at the same time - Banjo was saved by her in the same area some 6 months later... she also has her own foster failure from the same area who is another cousin... the ears seem to run in the family... *grin* Pickles is the only one with a disability - and she's now my forever girl. It was so exciting meeting Pickles' litter sister Persia - they are so much alike in so many ways... and they are both stunning looking girls IMHO. T. -

This is Banjo's new bestie... and is also his cousin!!! Meet Pickles' sister... Persia! Talk about keeping it in the family... lol! T. -
OK - everyone knows Pickles my mobility challenged camp dog, right? For those that don't - here is Pickles... Well - we also had her cousin Banjo in rescue looking for a new home. He is not challenged in any way, but a little shy of strangers - which is cured by treats... *grin* Here is Banjo... Banjo was adopted today.... ... but there is more... ... next post will reveal Banjo's new housemate... ... ...

AWESOME!!! Yay for Ellie!!! Dogmad and k9angel - you ladies are the bomb!! I must say that this is true evidence of how people from different rescues can all work together towards the best outcome for a dog in need. I am truly honoured to have played my very tiny part in Ellie's journey to her perfect forever home - this is the best ever "reward" for Jane and Rach's massive efforts. Much kudos to you both, OK? T.

NOTs: "I'm on a pension, do you give pensioner discounts on the price?" - for a rescue dog already priced well below "cost"... Anyone offering to "take it off your hands" or trying to bargain/haggle on price. Anyone wanting to leave the dog (rescue) undesexed and get a discount due to that. Anyone wanting to buy as a gift for someone else as a surprise... BIG GRRR on that one! HOTs: Wanting to know all about the actual dog/pup in question - it's likes, dislikes, what it eats, where it sleeps, it's personality type, whether it gets on with others, etc... T.

Are Some Things Better Left To The Pros?
tdierikx replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Saving an animal isn't just pulling it from a pound... there are MANY more factors that come into play Merci... As for the FB page in question - some of their followers are known to go around slagging off various rescues. I'm guessing that some of the "research" going on is the lovely underground grapevine of gossip. Funny that P.Rounds is miffed about this new "usurper" into what they would love to call their domain... lol! Maybe they can keep each other busy while the actual rescuers keep on doing their good thing... hehe! T. -
Looking very nice... healing well... T.

Nothing wrong with the angle when you have a butt this cute... *grin* T.

I bought a few of them, joined 2 sets together to make a larger pen, and set it up in my granny flat. So far that pen has managed to contain 2 sets of large breed pups - 1 set were 9 4kg pups, and the second set were 7 Lab/Rotti/GSD pups of 5+ kgs each. Love the Bunnings compost pens to bits here! Cheap AND effective... T.

"My" little man has the cutest butt... *grin* ... and the second photo is too gorgeous for words... T.

Do Other Pets Mourn
tdierikx replied to sterlingsilver's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
My male Rotti sat on his "girlfriend's" grave in my back yard for 3 weeks - we had to take water and food to him because he wouldn't move from that spot - rain, hail, or shine - for 3 whole weeks. My current pack are accustomed to dogs coming and going now due to the fact that I foster - they do appear to miss some more than most if they have bonded in some way though. T. -
