I think we can all agree that rescue isn't for the faint of heart or thin of skin... the things that some say about others can be totally outrageous, and very rarely is there a whole lot of truth to what is said on the rumour mill. OK - sometimes there is truth, but there have been many threads about those already... Case in point - I foster a lot of puppies - my preference - and I get to source or select them for the rescue I work with. Our rescue is also running a program we call Pregnant Paws (explained in another thread) which also sees us taking in pregnant bitches reasonably regularly, whelping and raising/weaning the pups, and then desexing, vaccinating, and microchipping the bitch and giving her back to her family. We then rehome the pups with the same work done. Any money we make from the sale of the pups covers the expenses of the program. Win-win, right? Well... some people have decided that as we seem to have quite a few pups moving through our rescue, that we MUST be breeding them ourselves. This is NOT the case, and it is actually very hurtful to receive rude, nasty, and downright scary emails, text messages, and Stalkerbook attention from people who have never met us or been to our rescue themselves. I will note that some of the people who have been very vocal in espousing their opinions about us all over the internet are ex-volunteers who were asked to leave because THEY were actually endangering the health and wellbeing of the dogs in our care - some people take rejection quite badly it seems... Personally, I don't care at all what people who have never met me say about me, because I know that those who have met me know better. It would be nice to not have the police on speed dial for when the latest death threat arrives though... ... and I will continue fostering puppies as long as I am able and my dogs still love having them around. To be quite honest I have come so close to "failing" with a large number of my fosters - but when the perfect family comes along for them, I don't find it as hard to hand them over... *grin* T.

Yes please T. That'd be great. Thankyou. As soon as I find one, I'll get it to you, OK? If I can't find one for the 350D, you can always borrow my 450D print one... there shouldn't be too many real differences between the two models. T.

Isn't it funny how some people can get so defensive and go on the attack when they are not agreed with? Everyone is entitled to their opinion - but that doesn't mean that those hearing it have to agree with it. And just because one person may have had certain experiences with THEIR choices of dogs, doesn't mean that everyone is going to make those same choices or have those same types of problems... some of which MAY have had environmental causes despite the amount of vigilance cited by their owner. Sure, shit happens despite the amount of care we put into the selection and raising of our dogs - but to tag ALL registered breeders as producing inferior animals due to some issues YOU have had with YOUR selections of same is a little bit off the mark IMHO. Personally I'm a mutt lover - I love guessing what my dogs have in their breed mix... *grin* That said - I'd give my left boobie for one of the pups my registered breeder friend has due at the end of next month... I'm not a fan of yearly vaccinations for my own dogs, but they all get their puppy shots and first adult booster (C3 only) - nothing after that. My dogs would probably have a fairly high exposure to a wide range of things that I could be bringing home from pounds during the course of my volunteer work with rescue - but so far the worst we have had is mild KC... I had a foster pup once that developed vaccinosis... to be fair the poor little bugger had been vacc'ed, wormed, and desexed all on the same day by the pound who released him - probably a bit of a smack to his poor little immune system doing all that at once. He was not overly ill with it, as he was still running around and playing, but the diarrhoea and vomiting had me worried for a couple of days. I also wonder how many pups test "positive" for Parvo shortly after being vaccinated, but really have vaccinosis... if you'd ever seen (or smelled) both, it would be pretty obvious to the trained eye (or nose) which was which... Staffy farts are the worst! And they are total garbage gutses... T.

You have the Canon 350D, right Rach? Do you want me to see if I can find a pdf of one of those Dummies books for it? I have one for the 450D here that was pretty helpful for me... T.

I am so stealing your idea. Extra cuddle from me too please Anytime you want to "steal" any of my cuddle suggestions/offers, go for it Kajtek... *grin* Now Frodo's Mum, you have to give Ruby at least TWO extra cuddles per day, OK? T.

I "failed" with foster puppy number 45... and she now helps me foster other pups. We are up to around number 90-something now... *grin* If a foster carer is willing, able, and not likely to want to adopt/keep every dog that they foster, then why not let them keep doing it? It's not like a good foster carer is really easy to come by... T.

I have a Labrador and a Camp Dog... nothing ever gets left out where they may be able to get to it here... ... except my chocolate bars that are on the corner table next to the couch. For some reason they know they won't live long if they touch that... and I don't mean trips to the vet either... they won't even look at the chocolate - go figure? Not that they are allowed in the lounge room unless I'm with them, but they still won't look at it if I have to go for a potty break... Actually, they won't touch anything on that corner table... strange or what? Everywhere else in the house is fair game for raiding... *sigh* T.

Can you give Ruby an extra cuddle each day from me please? She looks and sounds like she deserves them... *grin* T.

Hmmm... I'm wondering about 2 different pedigreed dogs from 2 different registered breeders both succumbing to HD bad enough to warrant euthanasia... personally, I'd be looking at environmental reasons before writing off registered breeders... Jed has the right of it here... T. -
Awww.... Happy Birthday Ruby! I hope you got extras for din-dins today... T.

I have one dog here who has completely refused to crate train - and when she broke her leg a while back, she actually destroyed a steel mesh crate and got loose. When she had to go to the vet for her desexing surgery, we advised of this fact and they accommodated her just fine. My other 2 dogs and all of my fosters are crate trained, and none have had any issues. T.

Blacktown Pound Compulsory Desexing
tdierikx replied to Mila's Mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
In the general scheme of things, I believe that owners of dogs should be allowed the discretion whether/when to desex their pets or not... however... I also believe that pounds should be setting the best example by desexing all animals adopted out from them. T. -
My eyes are leaking... Beautiful! T.

Pity they want dogs between 8 months and 2 years old (from the website blurb) - I have a 4 month old BT/Staffy here that has the sweetest nature and isn't crazy like most pups his age... T.
