  1. OMG!!! Ain't he just the handsome-est boy?? *sigh* Me still luvs him bestest... T.
  2. I wouldn't even discuss property settlement with my ex until we had sorted the dog custody... I got the dogs and he got way more than he deserved in the property settlement... grrr! I still reckon I got the better deal though. T.
  3. We need more reporting like that methinks... *grin* T.
  4. You can get puppies from rescue too... We have a Lab X Kelpie pup at our rescue - she's lovely... T.
  5. Traffic is not hard on the way to the rescue... and I can take you anyways... if you want... T.
  6. Triple salt Black Cat licorice is the best IMHO... and the dogs don't like it... *grin* T.
  7. Quite frankly the ills of society are myriad - and the dumping of dogs is but the tip of the iceberg. As noted by PS, there is an element of society that simply don't care about anyone (or anything) but themselves... and all of the stupid PC laws we have aren't helping anyone to become accountable for their own actions at any level. I look back at my own childhood and remember that there were consequences for stupid or antisocial behaviours - we got disciplined when we misbehaved, and it was often that we were told that we were wrong about something or that we failed a test at school. We didn't automatically have "rights" until we earned them... and when we did earn them, we had to understand the responsibilities that came with those rights as well. Nowadays it's all about having "rights", but not having any responsibility... and it's always too easy to place blame anywhere else but with our own stupidity or ignorance. How often do we hear that someone's antisocial behaviour is due to having a poor upbringing or rough childhood? It's just not good enough IMHO... T.
  8. We have 2 sheep at our rescue property if you'd like to test Jodie with them Katdogs... *grin* T.
  9. The weather has been totally rotten here for a while - wet and cold - so getting the munchkins out for a decent photo session has been near on impossible of late. They were all desexed this week and are ready to select their own forever homes... As soon as we get some decent weather, we'll get more photos, OK? T.
  10. Zeddy does her very best "I'm a big mean pitbull" carry on when people come to the front door... but when I open it and let someone in, she is the biggest tart... T.
  11. It can have a laxative effect... T.
  12. My first thought was Rotti... but Greyhound will tick all boxes too... T.
  13. Let's face it - some breeds or breed mixes are more "desirable" by Joe Public. If you can get a decent price for those "desirable" dogs, then any profit made helps go towards those that you'll never recoup costs on. There is no rule that says rescue should be run at a loss - quite the contrary - it should be run just like any other business. Not-for-profit does not equate to no profit, it means that any profit made goes back into the business to help it grow. T.
  14. Still - less dogs to look after at any given time will mean that each dog will be able to get individual attention more often... just because one has a license for more doesn't mean they should be at capacity all the time... T.
  15. Running a responsible and successful rescue is bloody hard work... and I tip my hat to all who can do and are doing it "right". I've always been of the opinion that "success" in rescue should be counted in how many we rehome responsibly and well - not how many we can rehome in the shortest turnaround time (ostensibly so one can "save" more and more). It's not a race or a competition - it's dealing with lives of the animals we take in, and the lives of their new family members. If we get it wrong too often, then the public just won't source their next new best mates from us, will they? Not every animal in a pound can or should be "saved" - some are best served by being given their wings - and the sooner some people in rescue get that fact into their heads the better IMHO. Back to the OP - RCR have had their numbers reduced on their license for a reason... which appears to be more related to how many they can care for properly at their premises (most likely due to staffing levels), rather than any bad press they may have had. This isn't actually a bad thing, and may increase the numbers of animals they rehome annually because they will have more time to work on and with each dog before rehoming it. T.
  16. You are a complete angel Ella! The boys are doing so well and looking great... T.
  17. Are we forgetting that many foster carers are "average dog owners" dogmad? Yet most of us seem to be able to work out what new dogs may fit into our homes/packs... *grin* We've been told that RCR does extensively work with dogs who may not be immediately rehomable straight from the pound - and does the right thing if they are deemed unsound... that can't be a bad thing, surely? There are a plethora of other groups who have no qualms about returning a dog to a pound for euthing... as it's a cheaper option... sad but true... Like I said, it only takes one not perfect rehoming to get the rumour mill going... I'm sure most of us have been subject to that sort of thing too, right? If council have deemed RCR's premises and staffing levels only suitable for 20 dogs, then that's what they have to work within. Then again, if one has a license for X amount of animals, they don't have to max it out all the time... T.
  18. My heart dog Woosie the Rotti had a boyfriend who lived down the road - a Maltese named Caruso. They used to have regular playdates. I don't see it as strange when dogs of different sizes and breed mixes get on... I think it's great! How about these combinations... Great Dane and Dachshund... GSD and Toy Poodle... in both pairs the larger dog was dependent upon the smaller dog for confidence... errr! T.
  19. Red Collar Rescue also source dogs from Sydney pounds... I regularly see their name on Renbury dogs... My worry would be that if they are housing more dogs than they can manage, then finding the time to temp test properly may be hard. It only takes ONE "off" rehoming for the rumours to start circulating... T.
  20. I only need to take Pickles out alone to get comments... because she walks funny... *grin* When I used to be able to take Trouble (blonde Lab) and Zeddy (Black Rotti/Pittie) out together I would get the "one of each" colour comments regularly. My house is usually full of all sorts anyways because I foster for rescue - not unusual to have all different breeds/mixes, colours, and sizes around here... at least my neighbours are used to it now... hehe! T.
  21. Loving the 3rd pic down... running with the big boys... lol! T.
  22. All I can say is that you have good ranger response time where you live... Simple equation here... dog loose = strong possibility dog ends up at pound. T.
  23. A distinctive "fishy" smell from that region... constant licking or scooting... you get the drift... T.
  24. I don't have any suggestions for you, but can I send you a hug? What does your vet say? T.
  25. Elsie looks like she's having a total ball playing in the snow... My pampered babies would be doing the "it's cold on my tootsies" dance I reckon... lol! T.
