  1. I always thought that their "bits" come out when they are highly excited or stimulated in some way... humping is not necessarily related to it either... T.
  2. As much as she loves having couch cuddles, if I put her off the couch, she just goes over to the dog bed in the lounge room and snuggles up there - no being pushy and demanding to be let back on the couch. She is such a well behaved little lady... T.
  3. We have now decided that "scary dog" isn't so scary any more... in fact, she is great fun to rumble with... when she isn't stealing our toys and running off with them... And she's the first female foster I've had that doesn't decide to play with her poopies when crated - she covers them up instead so I have to look for them to clean them up... lol! She has to be the quietest foster I've had ever too - she barely makes any noise at all - not heard her bark or cry yet... even when I got home from work and all the others were going mental - she just waited patiently for me to let her out of her huge play crate and then tried to help me clean up and get changed out of my work clothes. She is also a dream to handle, taking her stitches out was easily a one person job, and she is happy to let you cut her nails and clean her ears and eyes, and lets you look at her teeth with minimal fuss too. She only has one "bad" point... she travels terribly. Vom bombs and slobber city! She won't be a tradie's dog - that's for sure! T.
  4. Lily now also adopted... and Daisy has appointments... T.
  5. OK - a couple of photos I snapped yesterday... T.
  6. I tend to foster pups under 6 months old because that's what my current pack prefers - and I find them a lot easier to assimilate into our structure here. I'll take on singles or whole litters or even a few pups from different litters together. Here's a hint - your best ever investment will be a large cage crate - they are perfect for keeping new fosters from eating the house while you sleep... *grin*... I have a few set up, usually in my bedroom and lounge room where they can feel part of the pack but still be secure from chewing on things while you can't physically supervise. ... and the best toy on the planet is a used toilet roll - destructible and digestible... hehehe! T.
  7. OK - her birthday is 6/4/12 - makes her 12 weeks old... She was very good last night... and already a couch cuddle professional... *grin* She settled perfectly in her night crate when it was bed time - not a peep out of her at all. She decided to go and look for the back yard herself this morning, but the crazy dog that walks funny (Pickles) decided to scare her by wanting to play, and she came hightailing it back to me for reassurance that the scary dog wasn't going to tread on her. She's happy to bump noses with the scary dog, but not quite up for the rough and tumble just yet methinks. She did try to make Zed play with her, but Zed is way more interested in lying in front of the heater at this time of the morning... hehe! She is fascinated by Trouble the Lab - thinks she's great! She really is a stunning little thing - lovely glossy coat and really intelligent eyes. I think she's going to be a bit of a terror once she's settled in... let's see if I'm smart enough for her... T.
  8. Seeing as Reuben has picked himself his new forever home and left me today, I've brought home someone a bit smaller... ... Matilda - a black and tan Kelpie puppy - about 10 weeks old I think (better check her DOB tomorrow) OMG! This pup is sweet! I can see what may be the attraction to Kelpies... she has the prettiest face, and when she looks at you with those intelligent big brown eyes... instant heart melt! She watches everything and you can see her processing the info... I'm going to try to get some photos tomorrow so you can all see what a cutie she is, OK? T.
  9. Update... Reuben has been adopted and his new mummy is over the moon with what a good boy he is - especially since he had to fly interstate to get to her. Apparently it was like they had both known each other all their lives when they met... that's my boy! T.
  10. Update.... Frodo, Bilbo, and Peaches have been adopted... yay!! Lily and Daisy have appointments tomorrow... T.
  11. The best resource I've found is http://www.fostermanual.com - well worth every penny and more! Everything you ever wanted to know about fostering and more! Welcome to the fostering world! T.
  12. Try Corel and open the help file to find out how to resize... ... or you could go to http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/ and download Easy Thumbnails - that's what I prefer for all my resizing needs - does a great job, and will even do batches... T.
  13. You should be able to find Paint by going to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Paint T.
  14. You can resize in Paint - comes with Windows... T.
  15. I highly recommend getting a copy of this book... http://www.fostermanual.com/ It explains everything you will ever need to know, and is exceptionally great value for money... and it gets delivered REALLY quickly after you purchase... *grin* T.
  16. There have been some fosters over the years that I and my other dogs built a really close bond with, and if circumstances permitted, would have loved to keep forever. Regrets? Not yet. I've been very fortunate to have been a party to selecting their new homes, and am content in the knowledge that someone else is loving them every bit as much as I can. T.
  17. It doesn't have to be a vet doing it either - some pounds have Euthanasia Technicians who are certified to do the job. I don't think I'd like to have to do it myself, and of the ones I've met, they aren't overly enamoured of the job either - but they do everything they can to make it easy for the animals they have to pts. ... and as Crisovar said, for some animals it's the best gift we can give them. T.
  18. Jed has the right of it - any decent trainer will realise that not all methods work on all dogs and owners, and will adjust methods to suit the dog and owner best. Funnily enough, a lot of dog training is actually training the owner... *grin* T.
  19. Some advertisers have been known to use other people's microchip numbers - from previous ads sourced via Google. It's not all that difficult to circumvent the new rules... *sigh* T.
  20. Has anyone else ever found it kinda silly that the law says we have to microchip before transfer, but not vaccinate or worm? T.
  21. Absolutely the best news to date! Ella has done an amazing job with the boys, and dogmad and indigirl need kudos for getting these boys into care - and finding a new home for them... and let's not forget the wonderful people who donated their travel costs to get them to safety. I love it when everyone pulls together for doggies in need like this... gives me hope... *grin* T.
  22. The best testament to your care is when your foster doesn't acknowledge you when leaving with their new family... it means you have got everything right for that particular dog... *grin* Don't be sad... you've done an excellent job, and he's now perfectly ready for the next stage of his life adventure. T.
  23. Some rescues have been known to have first time foster carers pay a deposit on the dog they take into care... just in case they abscond with it... it has happened... sad but true... T.
  24. I'd also look at his tendons and ligaments... Is he still having the odd growth spurt? Sometimes if the long bones grow a bit fast, the ligaments and tendons can get stretched a bit during exercise. I had a Rotti boy once whose tendons got really sore while he was having growth spurts. T.
