Oooohhh... are you thinking of fostering kittens Katdogs? Sounds like fun! I'm allergic to cats as you know, but can dose up on Telfast and come cuddle if you need an extra cuddling helper... *grin* T. -

I love your sign... gorgeous idea! When a friend's dog broke his leg and needed pins, plates, and cage rest for an extended period of time, we made a similar sign for his crate too... so it's not crazy, OK? T. -
Eucalyptus wool wash (laundry detergent) is what I've used effectively on pups under 4 weeks of age to remove fleas... only problem is it has to be done every 2 to 3 days... Capstar has an effective period of about 24 hours - best to use as an initial dose to kill off the fleas fast, then go and get something a bit more robust to keep the fleas under control on your dog. I use Comfortis with my 3 dogs. T.

2 New Arrivals At Nswar
tdierikx replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
No - that dog was named Prinny PR... she passed a few months ago from old age issues. We still miss her terribly. Penni was my close friend's Staffy who went to the Bridge on Thursday. She was a fighter and was very sick as a pup, and it seemed apt to dub the little blue and white girl Penni if she comes good. T. -

OK - photo time! Please excuse if some are not completely up to par... the little buggers were going off in all directions and I only had one wrangler to help herd them into reasonable positions... First up, Blossom's babies... -

OK - weights for Daisy Boo's babies this week are... Black and white boy (black spot on neck) - 2.2 kg Big black boy - 2.1 kg Black and white boy (wider stripe on head) - 2.5 kg Black girl - 1.75 kg Black and white boy (narrow stripe on head) - 1.75 kg Small black boy - 1.5 kg (a gain of 400g in a week - way to go little man!) Daisy's babies are eating solid kibble now, and were wormed today also. We had most of the bubs out in the fresh air for a good long time today, except for the little blue and white girl and her black and white brother. They stayed with Blossom to get some extra boobie time. The little blue and white girl is still perky and active, if a little less steady on her feet than the others - but she's a little fighter and LOVES her mushed puppy tinned dinners with a passion - she even prefers those to boobie! I got photos of the pups today, but have to dash off to help a friend with a computer problem. Will post the pics tomorrow morning, OK? T. -
I'll admit that they do a lot of wees and poos... but the puppy breath kisses and couch cuddles are well worth it. I'm lining up to take on a few pups from 2 litters we have at our rescue soon... probably end up with most of them... there are 14 in all! They are only 6 days apart in ages, and tracking around the same weight ranges, so it should be doable. I've had 9 foster pups at the same time before, so what's a couple more? Do you have any idea how much poop is created by 9 pups who eat 5kgs of kibble between them EVERY day? Once you've gone through that for a few weeks, anything else is easy... lol! At least the weather is warming up a bit now, so I can utilise the dog pen in the back yard and the granny flat (for if it's cold or raining) instead of having them all pooping in a playpen in my lounge room... *grin* Pickles is going to love being beaten up by a pack of puppies... hahahaa! 2 New Arrivals At Nswar
tdierikx replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
OK - yesterday was overcast and had a cold wind blowing, so we didn't get any photos of the babies. All are doing fine except for Blossom's little blue and white girl who appears to have managed to contract coccidia from her mum and isn't thriving as well as her littermates. All of that litter have been Baycoxed (Blossom was treated last week), and we now wait to see how the little one goes. She is eating extremely well and has a strong little spirit, so we do hold some hope for her at this point. All of the pups from both litters are now happily eating solids like little pigs. Blossom's babies are 4 weeks old today, and Daisy Boo's babies will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. I got weights on Blossom's babies yesterday, and you will note that the little blue and white girl hasn't gained at all this week, but she has grown in height and length. Blue and white girl - 750 g Black and white boy - 1.25 kg Blue and white boy - 1.3 kg Blue fawn brindle girl - 1.5 kg Black boy - 1.5 kg Brindle girl - 1.5 kg Lighter brindle boy - 1.5 kg Darker brindle boy - 1.7 kg As you may note - these babies are tracking the same weight range as Daisy's babies were last week... *grin* Got weights on 2 of Daisy's babies also (will get the rest today) Black and white boy (thin stripe on head) - 2.5 kg Black and white boy (black spot on neck) - 2.2 kg Today is looking nice and sunny, and not too much wind, thank dog... should be able to get the babies out in the fresh air and get some pics for their fans... I hate to think what my neighbours think when I'm trying to take photos of my fosters... I make all of the most silly noises in the world to get them to get that head tilt... T. -
Ummmm... am I seeing a possible foster failure coming up? *grin* Seriously though - can you now see why I stick to fostering puppies? T.

Urgent Help Needed With Agressive Young Dog
tdierikx replied to ash1's topic in General Dog Discussion
As someone who has 2 adult (desexed) bitches who cannot be allowed together because when they get it into their heads to have a spat it's to the death - I can attest to the fact that it's not that darned hard to keep 2 dogs separated if you have to. Sure, it's a hassle to play switchy swapsy, but it becomes routine pretty quickly for all involved - and neither of my bitches are suffering any lack of one on one time from me or my other dogs. Both girls get on just fine with my other dog (another desexed bitch), and all of my dogs get on fine with the foster pups that come through on a regular basis. They are allowed to spend time with me and the other dogs they arent reactive with, just not with each other. Because I know what both my girls are capable of when pushed, there is no way that I could have rehomed either of them in good conscience. My options were to separate or euth one or both of them - separation was worth trying, and has been very effective for the past few years - and both girls are happy, healthy, and completely well adjusted. You need to have Spud and Murphy (and your whole pack dynamic) assessed by a professional before making any permanent decisions about any of them. If any of your dogs can't be worked with effectively, then you need to start thinking about the other options you have at that point, OK? T. -
