Female Kelpie X Border Collie Needing A Home
tdierikx replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sounds like the dog needs a job to do that will tire her out mentally and physically so that she doesn't get anxious when she is alone. It's not going to be easy to rehome a dog with a nuisance order on it in NSW... those things are a bugger to get removed. But they don't necessarily follow a dog interstate... I do hope you find a solution for this pup... T. -
They should have videoed ALL of the course... it's pretty in depth and informative. Nice to see he didn't use King as the attack dog too - Chilli doesn't look as scary as a well muscled Rotti... *grin* T.

My disabled camp dog Pickles destroyed a metal crate when she was only 5 months old... bent and stretched the 4mm metal bars with her teeth and clibmed out through the gap she made. And she had a broken leg at the time and was supposed to be on cage rest! My Pittie cross girl can't do that!! Nor can my Lab! I think the only thing that may contain Pickles would be weld mesh like what you use for fences... *grin*... but it would be a bugger to move around - that stuff is HEAVY! T.

Don't worry too much about the Cavs in Renbury just yet Squidgy... Renbury have a great track record for working with rescue. I'm sure they will have rescue options in no time flat... *grin* T.

The New Pet Rescue Site?

I've been corresponding with PR about our email bounce problem - which may now be fixed may I add. It looks like our web/mail host suddenly decided that it didn't like any email from DOL and PR - so I ended up having to raise a ticket with the host to unblock at a higher level than I could access from the control panel. What a nightmare! T. -

GRRRR!!! This is bloody ridiculous! I've had to resort to sending a support ticket to the webhost to see if they can unblock the bloody things... Oh - and they are also blocking email from DOL now too - so I asked them to unblock that too... *sigh* Now you know why I have a gmail account... I've got a thumping headache now... gonna check the ticket status in the morning, OK? T. -

PR suggest you put 0000000000 as a phone number if you want people to email you instead. T. -

We saw an upsurge in applications when PR were listing on TP... and it's another place people go to look for a pet - gets a lot of traffic... T. -
I'd be getting X-rays done before agreeing with ED as a diagnosis. And get more than one opinion on said X-rays... My brother's Lab was suspected as having ED when he was about the same age as your pup - not a sign of it on X-rays at age 6... turns out my brother was over exercising the dog by going on long rambling walks and it was actually tendon strain during growth spurts causing the limp. Are the Petrescue listings going to the trading post any more? Just a thought... T. -
Reputable rescues will ALWAYS notify the breeder of a purebred dog of it's situation and offer to let them take it back. Reputable rescues will also notify the breed club or breed rescue of said dog if the breeder can't take it in. Please don't tar all rescues with the ugly brush... we're not all cowboys... T. You sure about that ? So if they have a policy of not allowing the dog to go home to the breeder do we assume they are not reputable? Most of the reputable rescues I deal with have no qualms about returning a pedigreed dog back to its breeder - if the breeder wants it back... Why would a reputable rescue have a policy of NOT contacting a reputable breeder (if known) to see if they want the dog back? *NB: I don't class the RSPCA as a reputable rescue... *grin* So - yes - I'd suppose I'd say any rescue that has a POLICY of refusing to work with a reputable breeder in the interest of the dog in question is NOT a totally reputable rescue... but then that would be MY opinion... T.

Mine isn't anything flash, and the pups are only in it when I'm at home and otherwise engaged - the green garden shed on the right side is a 12' x 6' job. T.

I have always loved this one of one of my fosters and my Lab... T.

Hims is gorgeous!!! Me wants!! T.

Contact Steve here on DOL - she breeds Beagles, and will know other reputable ones you can contact. T.

I've found that a high number of the smaller breed dogs in pounds appear to be really sweet and gentle souls - as opposed to the number of over loved and seriously not nice little ferals I see being kept and doted on... very weird! T.

I have a quarter of my yard sectioned off with cyclone fencing and a big garden shed for shelter as a dog pen... but the dogs are in the house... go figure... T.

The New Pet Rescue Site?

I've just spent the better part of an afternoon adjusting our email filters so that PetRescue notifications and other emails actually get through to us. Looks like PR have got themselves a new mail system as well as their new site... and our mail server decided to block their mail! Might be worth looking into if you are having issues with getting any mail from them nowadays - and check in your junk/spam folders in your email client on your computer (or on your host for that matter). As for the other issues everyone here are having, some of that stuff should be reasonably easily fixed if the backend database has been set up properly, and those supporting the site frontend know what they are doing. what it is starting to look like is they hired a mob of geeks to make a flash and pretty site, but neglected to tell them exactly what they needed it to do. You have to really spell it all out when you are in the planning stages for it to go off without the hitches we are seeing right now. From my side of things, I really can't see this new site being any faster, and certainly not "better" than the old one - things that used to be simple for those actually using it are now much more convoluted and take more time to get the results needed. Who is responsible for the testing before it went live? And why was a rollback option not included if everything went pear shaped? T. -
Remember the old days when backyard litters were advertised for free or dirt cheap? Nowadays, we slap a silly "breed" name on them, flap on about "hybrid vigour", and charge extra... *sigh* Got me beat... T.

Dogs are all different, just like we are all different. Some dogs like the security of being "confined", some prefer to run around larger areas. Nearly all of them (that I've met) would prefer their humans for company above all else - regardless of the space involved. If your dog is happy, healthy, and mentally well adjusted, then whatever you are doing with it when you aren't there might just be OK for that dog. I do like to crate train my dogs, if only to know that if they ever need confinement for a particular reason, then they will be content to be crated. Vets love crate trained dogs when they have to be there for a procedure - less stress for the dog in an otherwise scary time for them. T.

Bull Terrier bitches can attack/eat their pups if their calcium levels drop... can be as simple as supplementing their food with calcium powder when they are lactating, giving icecream and nice bones, etc... T.
