Rascalmyshadow - you can't really tar all pedigreed dogs with the same brush as the one that didn't work out for you... just like all mutts aren't going to be suitable for all people either. The reality is that you are more likely to get a dog with the traits you are wanting from a breeder who breeds for those traits and can give a certain amount of guarantee of same due to knowing their lines well. My personal preference is for mutts also - but if I were looking for predictability, I'd be heading for a well bred pedigreed dog every time. Oh - and how much a pup is bought for is not necessarily an indicator of how "good" it is going to be for your circumstances... I'm a big believer in how we raise our dogs as a huge part of how they turn out... and I'm not so sure about a dog being born "bad" or "broken"... WE have the ability to influence a lot of things about our dogs' health and temperament as owners, and laying "blame" for things that haven't turned out shouldn't automatically go to the breeder of the dog. My 60D is heavier than my 450D... doesn't wobble so easy... lol! T.

I'm definitely getting better at holding the camera still when taking photos... and I'm usually on Sports mode for taking photos of moving dogs... so this macro stuff is a little outside my comfort zone... T.

I knew you'd like the Jodie pics MUP... isn't she one of the prettiest Kelpie's you've ever seen? I'll let you in on a secret... Jodie is my fave dog that doesn't live with me... she's awesome! And she has shared her ball with Sammy a few times, and takes it back when he loses interest after 10 seconds... lol! ... and I'm really chuffed with that first shot of Stevie... it can be tricky getting nice pics of black dogs... T. -
I don't have a macro lens - just a Tamron 18-270mm and the Macro setting on the 60D... here's my attempt to take some macro shots. This little guy was about 1cm across when fully spread out... These weren't too bad for hand held and a slight breeze blowing... T.

How far away do you get when taking the bee and fly type shots with the Canon 100mm FM? I'm loving all of your macro shots... and definitely starting to think I need to get the Canon lens... but I'll have to save up longer... or win Lotto... T.

There's Luka!! What a beautiful boy he's growing up to be! Love the shots of the aerial Frenchie... they may be short in stature, but they are definitely huge in spunk... lol! Can't believe the Frenchie babies are 1 now... where did that year go indeed! T.

She's growing well... weighed in on Wednesday at 15.9kgs... 800g up from Saturday... errr! She came to Christmas Day at my aunt's place and was the best behaved "person" there... and didn't have any accidents or anyhing (which my aunt was concerned about - even though Harper is toilet trained... *sigh*). We even ended up snuggled together on the couch (me under Harper) for a nanna nap after eating... *grin*... actually it was 2 of my cousins' wives and I all sprawled out on various couches with our dogs - would have made a great photo! Harper was supposed to get desexed today, but has managed to get a bout of tonsillitis with her teething, so we are putting it off until they are less inflamed and the tube won't aggravate her cough. You wouldn't know there was anything wrong except for a little cough every now and then. I knew it wasn't kennel cough - seen way too many versions of that, and know what to be looking for there - so I took her to the vet who looked into her mouth and said tonsillitis... the vet was very impressed with her in every other way, and said that she is perfect weight for her height, etc. I'd love to have you for a neighbour Frodo's Mum... but I may have fallen in love with the fawn Frenchie boy and had to have him... and then I would never have gotten Harper... *grin* T.

He certainly is growing up to be an exceptionally handsome lad, isn't he? Please give him a smoochie kiss on the nose from me... T.

Let's get a bit more real here asal... puppy farmers don't give a toss whether their "stock" has mains registered papers or not - just that they are capable of pumping out lots of cute puppies for the buying public. Breeders can let their pups go out on limit register with an option to upgrade to mains if said pup shows the promise of showing or being good for breeding. If you really want to make 100% sure that any of the pups sold as pets never breed, you have to desex them before they go out - that's the ONLY way to ensure they are never bred from. But desexing young can have it's own set of risks, yes? T.

Does anyone have an opinion on this lens? http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Tamron-SP-AF90mm-F28-Di-Macro-11-Lenses.aspx Tossing up between that or the Canon 100mm Macro (not the L - out of my price range) T.

You only have to look at some dogs in show condition/show coat to see that they actually seem to think they are the bees knees... strutting around and looking beautiful... they don't seem to mind that it may mean no rough play or running around in the dirt. T.

It's been really yukky and wet the past 2 days... the sun is out today... Maybe Katdogs will be up for a photo session when I get home this arvo? Depends on whether we have decent light and whether Sammy has Katdogs needing a nanna nap or not... lol! T. -
Fair? My fosters get plenty of attention when I'm at home - and all of their new families are very impressed that the pups aren't anxious about being left alone... especially at bed time... *grin* The reality is that a lot of adopters will only have the one dog - so if the pup is content with it's own company from the get-go, then it's going to be less of a chore for the new family if they have to leave it alone for any length of time, right? Another reality is that a dog shouldn't have to feel the need for constant companionship... I consider those sorts of dogs to be (mildly) broken. T.

I work fulltime and also foster pups for rescue... it's doable... *grin* T.
