Introducing Tori, Teddy, Tango, Toby And Tiger
tdierikx replied to k9angel's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
There is nothing cuter than a bunch of pups having a ball romping around the back yard... Beautiful pics Rach... T. -
Do you have any Neocort? It has an anaesthetic component in it that will help ease Moseley's discomfort. T.

Don't panic Jelly... think of how well Roo has been doing so far. It's a big ask to expect Roo to turn herself around in a very short timeframe. You WILL have the occasional setback, but perseverence is the key, OK? If you have any doubts/issues, give Nekh a call - she's been an awesome help so far, yes? I'm sure she'll have some very constructive advice to counter Roo's hiccup moments... T.

Yay for Kibah!!!! ... and hoping that Pagan's healing comes along as planned too... T.

Whelping isn't all roses is it Mon? It's a scary experience when it doesn't all go as planned - on top of being a messy, smelly, and very tiring experience for all involved. T.

You'd better believe I'm hanging out Rach... I'm so jealous of you guys right now... *grin* T. -
Interesting pet to have if one lives in a suburban area... not a good choice if one lives rural... T.

*giggle* That is way cool! T.

Free Dog Snacks For Rescue

I'd think that different pounds and shelters may have different "rules" about opened food products - it's easy to ask first though... *grin* T. -
I have been given advice by a vet well read (and published) on zoonotic diseases in animals and humans, that the bolded part of Anne's post is very true. Regular small exposures are beneficial to dogs' immune systems. The same vet has advised that my 13 year old girl, who hasn't been vaccinated for over 7 years, should have a booster C5 or at the very least a C3 just to be extra sure her immunities stay at a good level - she is healthy in every other respect and has never had a reaction to vaccinations in the past. My other dogs don't need vaccinating, but my pup will get her first adult booster C3 when she's about 15 months old. It may be worth noting that my 13 year old dog actually ATE Parvo poop about 8 years ago (long before I was ever involved with rescue) and never even had a symptom of the disease manifest - she was however kept at home for an extended quarantine period so that she couldn't share any of the disease in public... some adult dogs can have the disease and not have any symptoms. She was vaccinated last back then. T.

I am so getting puppy breath withdrawal here... *sigh* I need to get me over to yours at some point for puppy cuddles, yes? T. -
Bad experiences with rescue don't do any of us any favours... one needs to remember that people are more likely to share "bad" experiences with many more people than they would share "good" experiences with... and word of mouth is still the BEST form of advertising - be it in a good way, or a bad way. What about Sutherland Pound, or Sydney Dogs and Cats Home in Carlton? I'm sure the poundies would love a few treats... T. -
Current Vet Changed To A Greencross Vet
tdierikx replied to Cougar's topic in General Dog Discussion
The hours changed a bit and I'm not sure all the prices are the same - seems that the newer vets are keen to charge for individual items on top of the consult fee, when they used to bung in a squirt of wound guard or a peek at an ear scrape without charging. Maybe it's because I don't have rescues anymore though. The biggest innovation brought in by Green Cross is computerisation which means our huge file isn't pulled out and hoisted up on the desk anymore. While Karen (vet) was still there, all my rescues were still treated for no consult fee, and she still gave me huge discounts on any medications I may need that my own doggy medicine chest didn't have. I'm pretty sure that my fosters can still get free consults from our other fave vet there nowadays though. T. -
Current Vet Changed To A Greencross Vet
tdierikx replied to Cougar's topic in General Dog Discussion
My fave local vet changed hands to Green Cross a couple of years ago, but the staff and pricings have stayed pretty much the same. T. -
Kibah's condition is a credit to your upbringing of her Kirislin - all of your dogs are simply stunning and really healthy. I just know that if Kibah needs any sort of surgery, she's going to sail through it like a true pro and all your worry will have been for nothing, OK? If she does need to lose an eye, she won't react to the situation like we would - dogs are amazingly resilient and can adapt to these things much better than we do. And you can then make her some really cool doggy eye patches to wear for photo shoots... *grin* T.

While I agree that "blue" does look nice on a Stafford, I'd be leery of the possible health issues associated with deliberately breeding for that colour. The only way I'd ever think about a blue is if the majority of it's siblings were of the more standard colouring. Blue staffies are as rare as rocks. T.

Warm/hot water with a bit of dishwashing detergent and a small amount of engine degreaser works wonders for getting blood out of carpet. Just make sure the carpet isn't a cheap polyester blend, or the degreaser can actually melt it... errr! Test in an out of the way spot before applying to the area you want to clean first. If the cat has buggered off, don't pay it another thought - they are tougher than they look. You just need to make sure your dog is OK. T.

Dogs AREN'T humans... their physiology is somewhat different to ours... so what applies to humans doesn't always equate to dogs. I say feed your dogs on whatever schedule you feel they do well on. T.

Look at the glorious condition on Kibah... she's definitely NOT an "old" dog by a long shot. If she requires any surgery, I don't think the vet is going to be worried about her physical state or fitness for surgery at all. Fingers crossed it's just a little injury that will respond well to some medicated drops... T.

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend
tdierikx replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
On the upside, I reckon Sammy probably brought back some really lovely memories for the gentleman Katdogs... even though he cried, they may have been happy memory tears too. T. -
http://shop.vebopet.com.au/store/dogs/dog-cages-crates/ Scroll down towards the bottom for the cage crates - larger ones on page 2. Vebo crates are very sturdy, and the best price by far, although shipping to Victoria may be a little pricey. I also saw that Petbarn have now got in some sturdy looking cage crates, but Vebo ones are cheaper and well known for their quality. T.

The only cat I've ever transported was to Powerlegs... and I'm highly allergic to kitties! I made sure to dose up on my antihistamines before though... *grin* T.
