I'd love to know what her previous work history has to do with how she cares for her horses... So what if she used to be a prostitute or a trainee cop? The case is about how the RSPCA think she was treating her horses, yes? T.

Country Pound Pups - 15 Of Them! 18 Now

If we have fine weather on the weekend, I'll get more photos of all the pups, OK? T. -
I don't think that dogs understand the concept of death and the finality of it - but they can and do respond in what can only be described as an emotional way when a close "mate" of theirs is no longer around. What makes me think this is because of the reaction by one of my dogs once when his close mate (a bitch) died due to a neighbour poisoning her. We don't know exactly when she died before we got home, but it was long enough (in Summer) for her to have started to swell - so her mate had been with her body for at least some time period before we got home that day. We buried her in a corner of the yard, and that is where he chose to lie for the next 3 weeks - wind, rain, or shine. I had to bring him his food and water to that spot for the duration of his "mourning" (I can only describe his actions as such). After 3 weeks, he got up one day and rejoined the rest of the goings on as if nothing had ever happened. I do know that dogs will definitely react to a sudden change of routine when something big changes like another dog passing - some more extreme in their responses than others, but I don't necessarily think it is a true "mourning" of their departed friend, like in the example above, but more of a knowledge that a big change to their normal routine is occurring. It's going to be "interesting" when my current oldie goes to the Bridge, as she has been here for the entire lives of all of my other dogs... I hope they handle it with the same aplomb they do when the fosters get adopted. I do think that Pickles may act out though, as she is closest to Zeddy emotionally. T.

Pulling things out of Pickles' bum is a weekly occurrence here... I'm so blaze about it now that I don't even bother trying to find a glove... but I wash my hands thoroughly straight after! It doesn't stop her ingesting all manner of things she shouldn't - but at least she chews everything up into passable sizes before swallowing... I once was at a dog park and someone else's dog had something stuck and the poor dog was getting really distressed about not being able to pass it. The silly owner was laughing at his dog straining and getting distressed, so I walked up with a poo bag over my hand and helped the poor dog out... he was a large bull breed dog, and I swear the look he gave me afterwards was one of pure gratitude... then I told the owner that he might want to help his own dog next time something like that happens, it's not really all that hard... *sigh*... I then handed him the poo bag and let him take it to the bin... lol! Only truly crazy dog people (of which I'm proud to be called) think that pulling things out of their dogs' bums isn't any big deal... *grin* T.

Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
tdierikx replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Wouldn't it be more efficacious if council just adjusted the number of animals that Moorook can have on the premises at any time? That would address their "hoarding" concerns - and Moorook would have to increase it's adoption rates if it wished to continue as a shelter. Maybe I've simplified it too much, but it does seem like an answer to the hoarding claim... T. -

They can't just make up new "rules" for a single business, can they? Especially if the law contradicts the "rule" they want to enforce? T. -

Cost Of Transporting A Puppy
tdierikx replied to jipsi01's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Not Pound Rounds... the dog in question is a young pup and not a bull breed... Sounds like there was the possibility of transport to SA via the rescue, but it may have fallen through - the rescue in question doesn't appear to have an ABN yet though. They are listed on PetRescue, but info on their whereabouts is sketchy - can only contact via email. If jipsi is getting suss about anything regarding this rescue, may I suggest she might want to have a look at our current crop of pups in care? http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/247752-country-pound-pups-15-of-them-18-now/ - best pics are on pages 3 and 6... lots to choose from, cheaper than the rescue she's currently looking at, and we can get great transport rates from Dogtainers for transport to Adelaide... *grin* Most of our pups will be available from next weekend onwards - the BT pups need another week. Remember that the BT pups have magical names... how about Merlin? Or Virgil or Odin? I also like Quinn - even though it doesn't fit the theme... T. -
Cost Of Transporting A Puppy
tdierikx replied to jipsi01's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
If the rescue is legit, they may have had a transport option to SA that didn't pan out... Usually the scammers will ask the buyer to pay them for the transport - and this looks like jipsi01 is having to organise that part on her own. T. -
I think OH is suitably freaked Katdogs - I just spoke to him and he's trying to be very brave and hold it together... puppy of course seems completely unaware that he's eaten anything he shouldn't. Remember that Labs tend to have guts of steel and can pass all sorts of things that would upset a lesser dog... *grin* Don't panic! T.
