  1. So the breeder is disputing your claim that the pup contracted Parvo at their premises, yes? As sad as it may be, there is still the very real possibility that the pup contracted Parvo AFTER leaving the breeder's premises. The incubation rate for pups in that age group can be as little as 2 days after exposure. Parvo is also one of the most virulent and hardy diseases known to affect dogs - it takes the most minute traces to be able to infect them too. I am currently living the aftermath of losing an entire litter of rescue foster pups to Parvo. They contracted the disease sometime shortly before arriving at my place for foster care. I now cannot have a pup anywhere near my place for at least 12 months, and I must be extremely careful if I'm going visiting anyone else's pup as well. Parvo is NOT something to mess about with - you CANNOT bring another young pup onto YOUR premises for at least 12 months now, OK? I understand your pain and distress - honestly I do - but it may not be the "fault" of the breeder at all. Sometimes these things just happen, and we feel the need to allocate "blame" for it happening. It's most likely no-one's direct fault that this happened to your pup... even though it may hurt like a bitch to admit it. T.
  2. Definitely 3 and 5 are my faves... love the black ones... T.
  3. Blacks for me... gorgeous! Especially the little chunky monkey sitting near the bucket... *swoon* T.
  4. Staffy Rescue maybe? http://www.staffyrescue.org.au/ Big Dog Rescue - Mina and Anthony used to run Staffy Rescue previously and still has a soft spot for the little tackers... http://www.bigdogrescue.org.au/ 0425 243 517 T.
  5. Depending on age, vaccination takeup of the individual pup, etc, Parvo can incubate for as little as 2 to 4 days... that said, the Parvo may not have come from the breeder's premises at all. Also, if the pup had been vaccinated within the previous 7 days or so, the Parvo test can show positive due to the vaccine... As kelpiecuddles says, you will now need to be very careful if you are thinking of getting another pup within the next 12 months - as Parvo can take at least that long to be gone from your house/yard - and any new pup could become infected as soon as you bring them home... regardless whether they've had their first or second puppy shots. To be safe, if you want a dog earlier than in 12 months time, I'd be looking at something over 12 months old that has had it's full adult booster shot. What did the breeder say to you when you reported to them that your pup had become ill with Parvo? T.
  6. Either build a secure concrete floored run in the yard for her, or maybe you are going to have to crate train her for when you go out and can't leave her in the back yard due to the escapism. Roaming AmStaffs are not looked upon kindly in Victoria... T.
  7. I'm thinking that as you haven't received the papers in a timely fashion, and you are having difficulty getting any response from your pup's breeder even though you have tried ALL methods, I don't think you are ever going to see his papers. T.
  8. Alternately, if you can get an old used T-shirt or the like from the new family and pop it in her crate for her to get used to the new scents, that would be cool too... T.
  9. Gratuitous puppy photos are always good... *grin* T.
  10. Ben went to Belmore Vet? OK - I haven't kept in touch... T.
  11. Pickles is definitely Muttley from Wacky Races... *mutter mutter*... and always plotting the best way to get under your feet... T.
  12. Ain't that the truth! It's the best feeling in the world when it all comes together and we know we've played a part in helping a dog get to their perferct forever family. Well done Michelleva! T.
  13. Mortdale Vet Clinic used to have a couple of Bulldog breeders as clients... not so sure about that now they have been bought by Greencross. You could probably try Ben Acheson at Kogarah - he worked at Mortdale Vet Clinic for a while before going out on his own, and would have seen a number of Bulldogs in his time. He's also a really lovely man who truly cares about all animals. T.
  14. Depends what you call "expensive"... Factor in how much you would pay a vet to vaccinate, desex, thorough health check and fixing any little thing that came up on that check, microchip, then factor in feed, exercise, basic training (both house and obedience), etc, etc... what would you expect to pay for all that? Then factor in an entire litter of pups that require all of that, and numerous older dogs that may need even more that the above before they are available for adoption... I think that $500 for a happy, healthy, and well socialised pup of ANY breed or mix is quite reasonable, don't you? Crossbreed dogs are sold for much more than that on Gumtree - with NONE of the above things done already... now, that's expensive! T.
  15. Oh T, you're a serial puppy pest. I have some on our site if you want your fix but there's more pics on PR OMG! OMG!! Are they at your place? I wants cuddles!!! T.
  16. Then maybe said "friend" should apply to adopt Bonnie then... or is that too much of a commitment for them to make? Ignore the "friend" and do what YOU feel is right for both you and for Bonnie... T.
  17. You are right of course grizabella... I am just so frustrated that the orange devils simply refuse to set themselves up somewhere I can get a decent photo of them... *sigh* Taronga went on about how awesome and expensive the Orangutan enclosure was when it first opened - and the Orangutans either find it too hot or too cold, or just rather lie around in their day room waiting for the keepers to bring them food at regular intervals. Maybe if they put some lights in the day room, at least we may be able to get a photo of something other than a blurred orangey lump surrounded by it's own droppings. They aren't precious about that I've noticed... T.
  18. Damn! Tibbie pups are SO cute it hurts! T.
  19. Mine don't bite people. That is an unforgivable sin in this household. 2 of them will fight with each other, so they just aren't allowed together - problem solved. None will instigate a fight with a strange dog, but if attacked may retaliate with suitable force to stop the attack. The oldest girl is more likley to wait for me to get the other dog off her actually - not so much the Labrador who WILL do damage to the attacking dog. The horse puppy is a sooky lala and is more likely to roll over and be submissive, but only small dogs have had a go at her to date, and she looks to me to stop them. Pickles makes this really bizarre strangled yappy barking when she's feeling threatened, so most other dogs tend to leave her alone - that, and the fact that she walks funny so they can't read her as well, seems to keep her from being attacked too. T.
  20. I'm sure she's giving him a hug in the last photo... *grin* T.
  21. Well - the Orang exhibit at Taronga is pretty much one of the most disappointing of the whole Zoo... Considering that I go to Taronga EVERY Sunday - rain hail or shine - and have seen an Orang out only twice in 6 months, kinda says it all really. Quite a few times, they've put out a special feed, and neither Orang could be arsed to go out and eat it - they know they will still get fed anyways... I've yet to find a time when the viewing glass to the day room is NOT an opaque shade of glare either. Oh - and when they DO put out a "special feed" for the Orangs, it's also usually at a time when the glare on the viewing windows to the exhibit is kaka too... grrr! I don't want to have to press my face against slimy fingerprint-laden glass and shield from the glare with my own hands just to see an orang sitting in his own poop... I want to get nice photos showing happy orangs outside doing what they do best... even if that's peering out from under a blanket or the like... T.
  22. Seriously... if I donate to a vet clinic account for a rescue, I'm just happy that it's paid off some of that account. It really doesn't matter if the occasional rescue person's own dog is seen on that account... that would be way overshadowed by the amount of rescues seen... T.
