Advice Needed - Incident With My Labrador
tdierikx replied to Georgina Ebony's topic in General Dog Discussion
When my Lab girl was around the same age as yours, this is what she did to my Rottie/Pittie cross girl... The Lab meant business, and despite 2.5 cans of capsicum spray, batons, and boots, she wasn't going to stop until she was too exhausted to stop. The wounds to the 2 front legs were to the bone, as the Lab was shaking her by the front legs to try and disable her enough to go in for the kill. The only thing that stopped that actually happening was that I had a hold of the Lab's tail and had her back legs off the ground to stop her getting purchase enough to finish the job. This was 4 years ago now, and neither dog has run together since... and I don't take the Lab to dog parks any more either, purely because I know exactly what she is capable of if triggered to have a go. The wounds to the Lab were all defensive and none were significant enough to need any stitching - the poor Rottie/Pittie cross girl just doesn't have that level of aggression in her - not even to save her own life... *sigh* Note: the swelling on the Lab's face was due to the capsicum spray that got into the wounds, not due to their actual "severity"... Harper was fine and dandy too... I wasn't overly concerned until I saw she started developing hives all along her back and ribs... on top of having the biggest Shar Pei meat mouth look ever. Her neck glands swelled up too, and I was worried about anaphalaxis kicking in... err! I spent the day calling her "fatty face" or "fat head" after the vet gave her the good stuff to stop the swelling progressing... I was a bit miffed that she'd messed up the day out I'd planned for myself, but she's a much higher priority than me having fun, don't you think? I must talk to the vet next time I'm there and see if he can give me a script for some form of antihistimine for her just in case she does something silly outside of vet hours... T.

I'm thinking Baylee might have hooked up with my heart dog Woosie... they sound so similar... Woosie was 11 and some months when she went to the Bridge in 2004. Your Rotties so remind me of Woosie... T.

Take a sample of the stool to the vet and ask for a fecal float to check for coccidia. Do NOT dose with anything unless you know excatly what you are dealing with... You've just started the dog on a different food - maybe that is part of the problem? Can you try giving her the other kibble you were originally using? T.

Too cute for boots... lol! T.

Neko - bees will bite back you know... Harper learned that lesson a few months ago... and we dicovered that she's VERY allergic to bee stings. Luckily I had her to the vet within 30 mins of the sting and she was given a couple of nice shots to stop the progression of the reaction... but it still took over 7 hours for her face to stop looking like she was a Shar Pei cross... The vet advised that as this was her reaction to he very first bee sting, any consequent stings will need immediate attention... *sigh* T.

The lady walking her little dog in Riverwood a while back was very impressed as I casually mentioned that her dog was a lovely little Tentie as I was giving it a cuddle (after asking permission of course)... The Lagotto that was waiting for it's owner's other half to arrive at the train station was one that made me think a bit harder before picking it's breed... *grin*... purely because we do have a population of "oodle" crosses here, and not many purebreeds at all... 4/52 - Crocodile feeding at Featherdale Wildlife Park (Taken with Canon 450D and Tamron 18-270mm lens - was giving it a trial run for old times sake - I think this turned out OK... would have been better with teh 60D and Canon 100-400mm lens, yes?) 25-01-2014-featherdale-450D 117 by tdierikx, on Flickr T.

Lawsuit Over Buying A Crossbred To Breed More Crossbreds
tdierikx replied to redangel's topic in In The News
Since when did pet shops give prospective buyers "breeder" contact info? It says that the buyer viewed both parents, and that the breeder - upon being told of the Bichon in the mix - said she'd have charged extra for the dog if she'd known about the extras in the mix... WTF? ... and who goes to a pet shop looking for breeding stock? If the owner weren't so obviously serious about her "problem", I'd find this one of the funniest stories yet... *sigh* T. -
This is my Zeddy... she was 13 in this pic... She turned 14 in August and is still going strong... T.
-
My Lab does it too... flat stare that you can't read what's going on behind them... If I move though, she's into mad tail thumping "mummy really loves me" mode... lol! T.
-
Reads to me like they are wanting extra money for the pups... don't think they'll be offering a $250 job lot... *sigh* T.

I'd be waiting for a good 2 weeks AFTER the symptoms have cleared up before taking your dog out anywhere... KC is still contagious for up to 2 weeks after the symptoms have cleared. T.

f/5.6 1/1600 sec ISO 320 Focal length 275m The camera (60D) selects all of that stuff for me... I tend to shoot in the Sport preset and have AF on. Essentially, I just point the camera/lens at something I find interesting and press the magic clicky button... *grin* T.

Odds are that if puppy is chewing his drip tube in under 24 hours, then he probably doesn't have Parvo... just sayin' I don't think I've seen a case of Parvo where the pup is back home and eating solids in under 3-4 days at the barest minimum. I've seen pups with vaccinosis present with a positive Parvo test, but rebounded within 24 hours of being put on a drip... and never looked back. T. -
I love my 100-400... and you really can get used to using it handheld... I have biceps now... lol! I got this shot handheld while the bird was travelling at least 60kph - and there's not a lot of cropping of the image either... takes some practice, but is oh so worth it! 27-10-2013-taronga 858-dixie2 by tdierikx, on Flickr T.

So I can post a pic a day... even if I took them all on the weekend? T.

I couldn't commit to TAKE a photo a day... I do all my photo taking on the weekends only... *sigh* I could easily POST a photo a day... but they'd all be from the weekend shoots... *grin* T.

New Tamron Super Zoom 150-600mm!
tdierikx replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
1.95kg... getting to the top end of my hand held capabilities... *grin* Nice price on it though! I'll probably stick with my Canon 100-400mm L though - 1.3kg is much easier for me to flap about... T. -
*just a little bit jealous of the gorgeous puppies* T.

I usually go to Symbio on saturday, and Taronga on sunday... feel free to send me a hoy and we can meet up at either whenever suits you... *grin* T.

A friend of mine had a dog who was camera shy... so I just used a long lens when she was out in the yard... got some lovely photos of the dog doing her own thing, which her owner cherishes so much now that the dog has passed. T.
