Was he sold to them BEFORE the stupid BSL laws came into effect, and now Victorian councils are seeing pitbulls everywhere? T.

Amazing Photo Of Two Sheepdog Bitches Disagreeing !.
tdierikx replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm thinking by the stance on both dogs that it may have been one of those lots of slobber and noise fights that are over in a cery short amount of time... I've seen serious fights - and this really looks more of a "rack off" and "ok, I'm going" situations - the Koolie looks as if she's actually backing down there... T. -
I'm going to be completely honest here... You can't ever truly "prepare" yourself for the peaceful passing of your heart dog. It will hurt like hell - for a long time. What you can do is be confident that you are doing the best thing for her when she needs you to have that confidence. Hold your head high and know that you give her that release with love and a breaking heart. Remember her well, and know that she will forever live long in your heart and soul - never really that far from you at all. When you remember her, smile at all the fun things you did together for all those years - that final memory is only one of many many memories you will have of her - focus on the myriad great ones she gave you... Also know that if/when it is her time to make her journey to the Bridge, she will be in some awesome doggy company while she waits for you to join her someday. T.

Parents' Outrage Over Dog Attack Ruling
tdierikx replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in In The News
I pen or confine my dogs to areas that kids can't get to them... if kids ever come over to visit... and it's not for the childrens' safety, rather it's for the dogs' safety... as kids can be very silly around dogs in general. T. -
I'd love to know the name of the drug prescribed in this case... if only to work out what the vet thinks it may be without doing any testing to know for sure. I think we've scared benz off now though... *sigh* Funny how many people come here, ask questions, get sound advice - then turn around and bleat "I will listen to my 'experienced' vet" when they've quite obviously been overserviced by same vet. What do they say about fools and money? T.

Ugg boots do a good job of squishing - more weight in them than a thong... you get the satisfying "pop" when you smash the buggers! T.

Have a look at these... and other play/exercise pen options... http://www.vebopet.com.au/dog/dog-exercise-pen/enclosed-pet-exercise-pen-with-door-3-sizes.html T.

It's never an easy decision - but you will realise when it's the right decision... This time last year I honestly thought I was going to have to make the same decision for my Zeddy... even going so far as to price the procedure with the local vet... Zeddy came good on her own and is still going strong today... and we still don't know what was the cause of her apparent decline back then. She was unsteady on her feet and fell up the steps a number of times too. T.

Whipworm, tapeworm, or hookworm can cause mucous discharge from the anus Rebanne... T.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the vet wormed the pup at the same time he gave it a C5... *grin* I'm also willing to guess that he used Drontal to worm the pup... Which will probably mean that the pup has an upset gut/system that probably will do just fine on boiled chicken and rice for a few days to a week to settle the tummy down. Maybe some scourban if the squirts are prevalent... May I suggest to benz, that the next time they need to worm the pup, they don't do it at the same time he has a vaccination... and use a less "vigorous" wormer like Canex or Fenpral at least 24 hours BEFORE or AFTER the vaccination. Should I hazard a guess as to which particular type of worm will give a dog the jelly discharge? T.

Pregnant Dog In Need Sth Coast Nsw
tdierikx replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sweet! All will be sorted I'm sure... Way to go Nina!!! T. -
She must have gotten her dad's genetic fortitude - he was a top showing Labrador who got out and impregnated the local mongrel bitch belonging to a neighbour's houseboi... *grin* We got her to the vet pretty quickly, and he pulled no punches about how sick she was, and that we could lose her... we cared for her at home after she spent 2 days on a drip at the vets. She got over the Distemper, but then contracted meningitis straight afterward... another 2 weeks of intensive home care, and she finally came good... and you'd never have known how close she came to losing her life during those 4 weeks of care... Talk to (PM) ninahartland... she may be able to organise some transport up to Nina for this girl... T. -
Oh - and you didn't answer the question as to whether you had wormed your pup recently... Only asking because I've seen reactions to worming that had symptoms similar to what you described. T.

I was just telling what the vet said but..ok, so i'll just ignore what a QUALIFIED vet says and take advice from someone on a internet forum shall I???? Sorry mate but I have no idea who you are. I just had a pervo test done 5 days after a vaccination and it was negative Why didn't you go first for qualified advice and not a dog forum, if you think so little of randoms on the internet? Ummm... considering I've had nearly 200 rescue foster pups come through my place over the past 5 years, and bred a few litters of Rotties and other breeds prior to that... I may have a little experience under the belt. I may actually have seen more interesting illness presentations than most qualified vets... seriously, my local vet used to ring ME for diagnostic advice... lol! I've seen and dealt with Parvo, Distemper, Coronavirus, vaccinosis, Coccidia, Giardia, many types of intestinal worms and bugs... as well as the fun of more cases of Kennel Cough than anyone needs to see. I've even seen Tetanus in a dog... which, unless your vet deals regularly with horses, I'm willing to bet he may never have seen either. You came looking for some possibilities to talk to your vet about when you finally decided to take your ill dog to the vet - after it had been off it's food and lethargic for some days, and had some scary stools to boot... Maybe next time, don't fart-arse about asking for stranger advice on the internet, and take your sick dog to the vet straight away instead. If I were your vet, I would have done a fecal float and checked for what type of bug may be going on there... there is no one-stop fix for all of them. At least then he could look up his trusty MIMS and prescribe the right drug to deal with whatever is actually ailing your dog instead of a "we'll try this and check back in a couple of days if when it doesn't work" (then I can charge you for more drugs/tests because you'll be even more concerend and willing to part with the money)... T.
-
You CAN get a false positive for Parvo after an MLV vaccine... your vet may be in need of double checking his advice... T.

When I lived in PNG, our dog caught Distemper. One other thing to note is that even if your dog does recover from the initial disease, they are highly likely to develop meningitis as well... Our dog was extremely lucky to survive her battle with both and suffer no serious side effects... but it was completely heartbreaking to watch her go through it. Vaccinate your dogs/ferret people... it's the simplest guarantee that your dog/ferret won't contract this (or other) disease(s). T.

Concerns Rspca Is Destroying Pets That Could Be Kept Alive
tdierikx replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Finding something seriously wrong with Izzy or the pups would certainly strengthen the case against the original breeder... yes? Nothing shocks me any more about what things the RSPCA will do to/with animals to make their point. I'm with Steve in believing that there should be an independent body that the RSPCA must be accountable to when issues like this come up. T. -
Have never been fussed on the Science Diet kibble... it gave ALL of my dogs the squirts straight up... and they weren't overly fussed on it taste wise either. Ever seen a Labrador pick at their food? Mine does NOT like Science Diet at all and will literally eat one piece at a time... *sigh* T.
-
I've never had a dog do poorly on any of the Royal Canin kibbles. Used to feed the foster pups RC Junior exclusively, and they all did great on it. My own dogs do really well on Nutro... or just as well on Supercoat... go figure? The most expensive is not necessarily going to be the best for an individual dog... sometimes cheaper is just as good. T.

Yep! T.

My fear of spiders came from Dr Who... before I saw the Spiders From Mars episodes I was quite fine with the critters - even having a cool collection of live bird catching/eating hairless jobbies when we lived in PNG (they were so cool then... but now they give me the heebies!) Funnily enough, the only spiders I'm NOT afraid of are the ones I really SHOULD be... I'm fascinated by Funnel Web spiders if/when they cross my path. I catch them in glass jars and just stare at them for ages... Then again, Funnel Webs aren't as fast and scuttly as Huntsmans... and they don't run AT you! This sums them up nicely... lol! T.
