My Apologies To All
tdierikx replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Unlike many others here, I have met you in real life Sam... so I know that your words ring true here. You certainly have learned a lot of things about rescue in Australia the hard way - but I think that the "trial by fire" you've had will only make you a much better rescuer in the long run... *grin* T. -
OK - Tigers and the ball... Jalur REALLY wanted to play with the ball... ... but it was bought for Kato, who did the following... It lasted a whole 90 seconds... but it was way fun to watch the old boy still have a whole lot of play in him... *grin* T.

Do Vets Send Found Dogs Straight To A Shelter?
tdierikx replied to tikira's topic in General Dog Discussion
I found 2 Dalmatians running around in peak traffic here one evening... managed to coax one of them into my car and got him to the pound where his chip was scanned and his owners contacted right then and there. They were a little miffed at having to pay a fee to release him, but were also grateful that someone had taken the time and made the effort to make sure he wasn't hit by the myriad cars zooming up and down the road he was found on. They found the girl safely hiding on the oval near the road where I had managed to herd her to before I took the boy to the pound - so she wasn't in the traffic either even though I couldn't get near enough to her to get her into my car. If any of my dogs got out, I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who got them to the pound quickly... as that would be my first place to call to find them. T. -
I think it's past time for emailing council people... time to get in touch with the media... Email/call your local newspaper. Send an email with photos of Stan and Maddie's and your injuries to the Telegraph. Send same to A Current Affair... The further afield the story goes, the more likely the council may step up to their responsibilities in THIS case. You could also front up to the local Council offices with Stan and Maddie in tow and demand to talk to whoever is in charge of the Animal Control team. If they are confronted with the actuality of the issue at hand, they may see things differently - nothing like seeing the actual wounds on the actual dogs and owner with their own eyes to get through to them the actual horror of the situation you were in. Kupa got first in Puppy Dog Katie got second in Puppy Bitch Daphne got first in Open Bitch Kura was shaping to be first in Junior Bitch, but had pulled up a little lame, so missed out... we all know she was the prettiest/best girl out there though. T.

I had a great time! Kisses from Brahman bulls are awesome! Which bright spark decided to barrier off the goats so you can't get anywhere near them? Mean! At least we could pat the pigs... *grin* I got kisses from the prettiest Deerhound ever (thank you Kitty!), and patted some Wolfies, a couple of Afghans, a Lagotto, and a Schipperke. Cuddles and kisses from Splash and Broker the Borzois was heaven on a stick too! Met a gorgeous Labrador named Mini, and another sweet pup named Ziva (and got kisses from them too!) Hung out chatting up Tapua's 4 stunning Labradors - Kupa, Daphne, Katie, and Kura (Sammy's litter sister) - then did a bit more wandering about until the Labradors were up. Took 500 photos of the 4 Tapua entrants... and here are my fave shots of each of them... Daphne Kura Kupa Katie They did very well too... yay!!! T. EFS.

I'm always stunned by how quick an experienced vet can desex a male dog... it takes longer to knock them out than it takes for the surgery itself! T.
-
I found a similar looking lump on our farm dog when I was a teen... drove him down to the vet and even got to assist in the removal surgery - it wasn't malignant, but boy it looked ugly! T.

The only symptom my horse puppy had was a bit of a cough... that didn't sound like kennel cough (being in rescue, one tends to recognise kennel cough pretty quickly). She was booked for desexing at the time, but I had a pre-op check, and she had tonsillitis, so the desexing was put off. Hers wasn't too bad - no pus or massive swelling, and we decided against antibiotics and let it run it's course, as she was otherwise pretty happy and healthy. Some honey every now and then if the cough was a bit raspy, and she was over it in a couple of weeks all by herself. I'd be worried more about your girl's issue, as you mention that she had a swollen throat on a previous occasion... could this be related to some previous injury at that time? If you have a biopsy, you will know exactly what you are dealing with, and then be better armed with information as to the best way to treat it... messing about with different types of antibiotics will probably cost more in the long run if you really aren't sure what the actual cause of the problem is. T.

Could be a melanoma - not necessarily malignant though. Fingers crossed the vet finds nothing overly serious going on there. T.

In Sam's defense... I actually visited STAR when she was working there - and was very pleasantly surprised at the standard of care she and her family were providing the dogs there. I also witnessed a couple of adoption prospect meetings where everything about the particular dog was discussed... she actually knocked back one family because they weren't going to be the right home for that particular dog (which may have upset MN immensely). All of the dogs were happy, healthy, and their enclosures were spotless... not one dog was drugged, and all were exercised individually during the course of the day with plenty of one-on-one human interaction and love. Sam was fully cognizant of each dog's individual needs and wants... T.

Have either of your local vets sought advice from an allergy specialist? It's as simple as a professional phone call from one vet to another really. Especially as for you to visit the specialist yourself involves a 5 hour drive each way. Surely an allergy specialist could give your vet some idea of what tests may be required for your Ralph's condition - and how to gather the samples for testing (and possibly send them off to the specialist/path labs for said tests to be analysed). Hahaha @ Katdogs. I only ever have one question... "Can I please have a pat/cuddle?" According to the showing schedule there is only going to be ONE Bloodhound there... I hope I find him/her for a pat! 10 Borzois, 11 Wolfies, 50 Labs, and 42 Boxers... I'm going to be busy... *grin* BOM says scattered showers, possible thunderstorm, but reckons only 3-8mm average rain... Big decision... do I take the big lens for the camera, or just stick the 18-270mm on and be done with it? I suppose I could take the big lens in it's case, and switch if needed... T.

My horse puppy got tonsillitis when she was 3 months old... nothing near as nasty as what you are describing with your pup though. If this is a recurring problem, I'd be going for the biopsy asap to find out exactly what is happening there. T.

I was really worried about your hand HW... thank dog there's nothing broken! Seriously! These people are beyond idiotic! They are fully aware of the damage their dogs are capable of, yet they aren't making ANY moves to try to stop another incident happening? I'd be completely livid if I drove past and saw them with the dogs out the front again... Next time, just stop the car and snap a photo with your phone... bugger what they may think... If the council don't declare the dogs at least menacing (or put in place a control order), then I'd be going to the media with the whole sorry story - and I'd give the media the address where they live so they can hassle them for good measure! Funny how if either of the dogs were tan staffy types with red noses, they'd have been declared or euthed already, yes? T.
-
The fact that these two dogs were intent on taking on 2 much larger dogs just for the hell of it speaks volumes for the fact that one slip up by the owner, and it will certainly happen again. At the very least they should be slapped with a menacing dog order - on top of the already issued fines and any other restitution required in the way of vet costs for Maddie and Stan's treatment. I couldn't give 2 shits if the owner of those dogs was financially viable or not - her dogs have attacked without provocation and caused injury to innocent parties - she needs to step up to her responsibilities in owning dogs that are aggressive towards other animals (there's no 100% correlation between DA and HA, so I'm not bringing up the "what if it were a child" argument - but plenty of others have). HW - what was the doctor's verdict on your hand and foot injuries? T.
-
Take some pretty coloured bows home with you and take pics of him all dolled up... I love seeing tarted up scruffies... *grin* A red or blue bandana would also look very smart on him for a photo shoot... T.

The bitch was desexed at the time of the Caesar. May I ask why? T. -
What has the doctor said about your hand and foot HW? I hope it's just bruising... but the description of your hand sounded pretty nasty... Zeddy sends Stan, Maddie, and you some of her special healing slobber kisses... seriously, Zeddy spit is the best thing for wounds - heal mine up in no time! T.

Gorgeous! T.

As you may have noticed, tan dogs tend to photograph really nicely... and your boy has a fair bit of tan in him. Add that to his lovely textured coat, and you have a recipe for amazing photos... *grin* T.

Help Needed Hand Raising Newborn Litter

I found that the 3-6 month old rated human teats worked best for my Rotti pups years ago - dogs' natural teats have somewhat faster flow than humans, and the 3 month old rated human teats seem to be the closest to giving that flow. I found that they preferred the silicone teats that were the "natural" shape as well. T.
