Stunning photos grizabella... Our Orangutans have taken to staying inside again - Willow invariably under a blanket, and Jantan curled up in a big orange ball of hair... *sigh* T.

Our babies grow up too fast! I'm always up early... the horse puppy makes sure of that! She is crated at night so she won't eat the house, and tells me she needs to pee at around 5:30am EVERY morning! T.

Look at little miss proud of herself... "I catched it Mum!" T.

A lot of dogs have problems reading spitz breeds' body language... T.

It would more likely be "my dog, my little ninja", wouldn't it Kirislin? T.

When I was with rescue, we had a lovely young Weimeraner (papered but desexed) surrendered to us. His breeder was not in a position to take him back. We made an email enquiry to the breed rescue and pretty much immediately were inundated with phonecalls at all hours of the day and night by some crazy woman purporting to be from the breed rescue and demanding we hand the dog over to her (for free of course) as we could not possibly understand the needs of the breed with regards to rehoming, etc... Finally tracked down someone listed as one of the higher-ups of said breed club, and she was lovely... she sent a lovely family over to view the dog - they had already been checked out as suitable by the breed club prior - and they and the dog clicked like they'd always been family... neddless to say they adopted said dog, and he's happily living the life of luxury all concerned wanted for him. Like all areas of rescue, even the breed clubs seem to attract some more "enthusiastic" members... *sigh* T.

I'm actually in 2 minds about this particular issue... On one hand, I feel that those who are selling pups to pet homes should take an interest in those pups' wellbeing - but to blanket statement that breeders should HAVE to actively participate in the rehoming of one of their pups many years after the fact seems a little rich. It's like giving the purchaser a lifetime "opt out" clause, when the stress in the first place is that when one gets a pup (from anywhere) the onus should be on the fact that they will live for a certain lifespan and it should be the owner's responsibility for their care and upkeep. Some circumstances may change for any dog owner, and while those circumstances may be unforseeable, they should at least be mentioned for thinking about at the point of purchase - not as some contractual obligation that the breeder should be held responsible for said dog long after it leaves their care. People who purchase a puppy need to plan for any future circumstance change that may make them unable to keep the dog, rather than ringing breeders and/or rescues at the last moment (almost as an afterthought) and saying "dog needs to go NOW"... most circumstances that see a dog needing to be rehomed aren't things that happen overnight after all. Taping Techniques For Dislocated Tails
tdierikx replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd wrap the whole tail and insert a couple of paddlepop sticks where the dislocated part is for stability. Reason for taping the whole tail is so that it's harder for the bugger to wag it off. T. -
Most of the pet insurances are underwritten by Hollards... it is they who up the prices, and the various insurance companies then put their own markups on those prices. T.

I love this particular quote... I went to have a look at the Nat Geo photo comp winners/entries at the Sydney Museum a few weeks ago, and one of the most striking (and winning) photos was taken by a 14 year old boy with an entry level camera... I get lots of people looking at my particular camera/lens and thinking that if they get the same setup, they will be able to take great photos... I always tell people that it's not the camera gear that determines what the end product will be. You can point the most expensive and most advanced camera at something and still take a crap photo of it, because you really have no eye for composition, light, subject placement, etc... Then again, I used to get the same sort of comment from people about my foray into the world of Fractal art... "oh, you use a computer to make those pictures - so if I get the same software, I'll be able to do the same." - trust me, the software was simply the tool used, but the creative process was all MINE for my images... and many tried, but couldn't make the software do exactly what I was doing unless I showed them how through step by step guides... and even them most cocked it up... lol! Here's a taste of some of my Fractal works... T.

What a gorgeous tribute to a gorgeous girl MW... may her Grevillia blossom and bloom for many years to come. T.

After seeing and photographing Tapua's 4 gorgeous dogs at the Sydney Royal this year, I'm a huge fan... if I ever decide to get another Lab in the future, I'd hope to be able to get a Tapua bred one... T.

Oh MW... huge hugs to you my friend! Tess will always be in your heart and memories - remember her with smiles not tears. She will be snuggled up with my dear Woosie at the Bridge, I'm sure... T.

Most people I have met out there in the real world (read not as dog savvy as the average DOLer) seem to be of the mindset that Labradors are supposed to be fat and lazy. T.

Like Anyone Needed A Reason To Trust Peta Less...
tdierikx replied to Steph M's topic in In The News
I like meat, and am under no illusions where it comes from. I am not designed to be vegan, I am designed to be omnivorous... my teeth and organs have evolved to chew and digest pretty much all that I put into my mouth for sustenance. I'm happy for other people to make their own choices with regards to what they want to eat... but please don't try to force or guilt me into doing the same - it's just not going to happen, OK? I'm not going to tell you that you are wrong either - you can eat whatever you want without it having to affect me, and vice versa, yes? I'm against humans inflicting pain or suffering on any animal and under any conditions - humane slaughter of our meat animals is quick and efficient in the main... As for animals hunting their own food and how they go about it - there but for the grace of god I say... if we hadn't evolved the technology to mass produce food for a growing population, we'd still be out there in tribes hunting our own dinner just like the other animals, and I don't think anyone would be knocking back whatever came back from the hunt or complaining that it wasn't killed humanely. As long as the pouch (modesty flap) doesn't impede her urine flow, or get really big or hard, I wouldn't worry too much. It's just a fatty flap, so making sure she's not overweight is also a smart move on your part. She looks gorgeous to me - all sleek and shiny... and until you put the arrows on the photo, I couldn't really make out what you were talking about. T.

I love the frantic and crazy pace of the puppy months... even the poo explosions and vom-bombs... they are so much fun to be with and learn so fast! T.
