Can't sell a rescue dog for $4000? Why not? Dogs of unknown breed mix or background really aren't all that different from factory farmed crossbreeds of dubious quality... except that most rescues have been vetted and deemed safe for adoption... Plenty of young pups in rescue too... dog knows I fostered enough of them, and that was only for one rescue... T.

Ummm... dogs are not carnivores... they are omnivores, and as such need variation in their dietary makeup. Cats are true carnivores. T.

It is amazing how much wrong you can find with a dog who has been rescued. Then it depends on how far the rescue group is prepared to go. I know any dog I rescued/fostered deserved the same sort of treatment I would give my own. Very easy for a dog who has [forgotten name - similar to parvo] to rack up a bill of a few thousand dollars. Coronavirus? It's another type of haemorrhagic gastroenteritis, but is not as hardy in the wild as Parvo... T.

Funnily enough the type of people who are inclined to write off an entire breed of dog based on one negative story in the media probably aren't the kind of people who you'd want as new homes for your amazing Greyhounds gapvic... Once the dust has settled on this "expose", the numbers of people applying for your Greyhounds will go up again... mark my words! T.

The correct breed name if pure/pedigreed is Alaskan Malamute. 8 week old pups of uncertain vaccination status run a risk of picking up diseases from places highly frequented by other dogs of unknown backgrounds - even if they've been fine "on a farm with other dogs". 8 week old pups can be overwhelmed at lots of other dogs checking them out in dog parks... and if not handled properly, can lead to fear issues, including fear aggression. Alaskan Malamutes grow into VERY LARGE dogs... proper socialisation is crucial while they are still small enough to handle. T.

I ended up in hospital with pancreatitis once... and that was once too many! It hurts like no other pain on earth! I learned the true meaning of "writhing in pain"... and that enough morphine can actually help you sleep through anything! (tey gave me a LOT of morphine) I've had one pancreas turn since I had my gallbladder out, and that was 24 hours of discomfort... taught me not to pile salami on my lunch too thickly (I did have about 10 slices... errr!) T.

The 5 bottles of Creon have a new home then... lol! Also replied to your PM... Hopefully the vet will give you a dosage regime to try and the tablets will help... and not cost you anything to test with... *grin* They aren't overly expensive in the grand scheme of things really. T.

I looked EPI up... http://www.merckmanuals.com/vet/digestive_system/the_exocrine_pancreas/exocrine_pancreatic_insufficiency_in_small_animals.html I have 5 x 100 "Creon 10,000" pills I was offered by my GP after I had my gallbladder out (in case my pancreas got upset during settling after surgery)... never been opened. If your vet reckons they may be usable in dogs (and in particular Sarah), I'd be happy to send them to you. They are human medicine, but may be able to be used in dogs - they are derived from pig pancreas. T.

I found that one of my dogs who had to have regular x-rays recovered faster from a GA than from a sedation... and the costs were comparable to each other, so the quick GA was the preference for me. This was also a dog who was claustrophobic and did not handle cages of any kind - think 47kg rottweiler with stress vomit and diarrhoea... not a fave of vet techs anywhere! I would bring him in 30 mins before his procedure time, wait for it to be done, then sit with him in a corner and wait for him to get his legs enough to stumble back to the car, and get him home to the safety of the couch... lol!
