  1. We never discussed AI at this point, as I beleived that with her experience she would have a better chance at getting a successful natural mating from the pair. I will be discussing this option with her this time around.
  2. Can you give more detail? Did he lick her and mount her as soon as they were introduced and then fail to penetrate or was he just licking her and dancing around but not attempting to mount her. He tried to mount her the moment they were introduced but failed to penetrate. He attempted many more times while I was there talking with the stud owner. As I was leaving, we crated both dogs side by side so they could rest, as being the middle of summer in nth qld, we didn't want them to overheat, well the stud dog at any rate. She was to let them together again later in the day when it cooled off, which I trust she did, but same story... plenting of mounting and licking and general interest, but no penetration.
  3. Last July I arranged to have a dog cover my BC bitch and I had him here for a period of 5days. In that time he was rather enthusiastic and she was standing well for him, but nothing happened. I thought perhaps with my lack of experience that next time it would be better to send my girl to the owner of the stud dog who is much more experienced than I, so at Christmas I sent her to be with the stud dog for another 5 days or so. The other breeder also has Aussie Shepards, so in total there were 4 entire males on the property. This time around, using the same stud, he was again eager to get the job done, and she was again standing for him and flagging him, etc, but still nothing. What the breeder thought was strange was the fact that none of her other males even seemed to notice that there was an on heat bitch there, as normally when one of her bitches comes into season she lives in chaos for a few weeks with males whinging and trying their best to get with her females. But none of this behaviour. This bitch has had one litter in the past, to my own male, who always seems to notice when she is in season. This was an easy mating, text book whelping, etc. The stud dog that I want to use is also proven. I will be going to my vet a few months before she is due in season next to see if there is anything she would recommend that may assist. My vet does perform AI, so this may be my next option. I was just wondering if anyone here may also be able to offer advise/suggestions. All will be much appreciated!!
  4. Just wondering who has this "bible" and where you got your copy from. I'm currently searching for it and just trying to see where it is offered at the best price. Thanks in advance for your help!!
  5. I regularly groom for a lady who has 11 dogs on 1/4 acre. She has tibetan spaniels and pappys. I personally think she is crazy, but whenever I go there, every 6-8wks, the dogs are always well fed, well loved, no fleas/ticks in sight. All dogs are desexed. Her house is always clean with no "doggy" smell. She says she has to vacuume and mop every night as all dogs live inside. So from the outside looking in she seems to manage quite well. They do get a little rowdy when the doorbell rings, but that is about it. She is a pensioner with extra income from rental houses, etc, so is home 90% of the time with them. In addition to the dogs, she also has 6 cats. So I really think it goes to show that everyones individual capacity is quite different. Having said that... I wouldn't be caught dead in her situation!!
  6. Where is the information on the driving ban listed?? Haven 't heard anything about that, but would be handy to know. What areas does this apply to??
  7. I'm in Cape Cleveland, Townsville and have had personal visits from SES and Rural Fire in our area urging evacuations for all Cungulla/Cape Cleveland residents. I think we will heed their warnings and head to higher ground. Our area is pretty sandy, so self draining, but our water table is only about 1ft down at the moment due to our wet season so far, so I fear that with a 4m storm surge, there will be no where for water to go. The winds I think the house will handle... we live in Forte Knox pretty much... gotta love old cement filled bessa block homes!!
  8. I use the high bounce balls, Spalding brand I think. Only cost $3.95 or thereabouts from Target/KMart and last for months. Lots of bright colours, but I have lost more than they have destroyed. My guys only just managed to kill their first one the other week. But i'm not sure if that is more from their chewing or my hitting it with a baseball bat!!
  9. Since when does any ethical breeder of anything advertise as "Official Distributors" of their chosen breed?
  10. I've just submitted a nomination. Thanks.
  11. Thanks very much. I noticed 2 breeders in Rockhampton, and will talk to them to gain further information.
  12. I'm searching for information on wire fox terriers, unfortunately no replies in the Dog Breeds 101 section. Can anyone give me an insight to their personality, temperament, health, etc. They would be living on 25acres with border collies and have full run of the property. They would probably end up doing agility/ obedience with the BC's, but would be here mostly to serve a purpose as a rat catcher. Any info appreciated.
  13. I would have expected and really appreciated a bark to warn us that some lowlife scum was breaking into hubbys ute last night. The only night that I've crated my old boy in with one of my girls to keep him a little warmer, rather than on his bed by himself in the cold, and some mongrel breaks into our car. Didn't get a bark or even a whimper from any of them!!
  14. My oldest Border Collie boy does, but only at Ambos... the other sirens don't seem to bother him. Unfortunately he is teaching the younger dogs to join the choir. We live right on a main road, so this is a very regular occurance. But not for long!!! Move to 23 acres of peace and tranquility!
  15. Thanks very much for the info everyone. I have taken some useful stuff out of there. As for treatment, I understand that their vet is wanting to leave him for the time being, but do surgery if and when his condition worsens. For now he is restricted to onlead exercise only with short jogs and walks. They have started taking him swimming to burn off some energy.
  16. The owner of a dog I breed has been having some problems with this joints. At first their local vet diagnosed him with hip displasia, but they have since taken him to an orthopaedic surgon and he has suggested that he has OCD Lesion in his right hock. They were also told that this is a genetic condition. I have been doing some reading up on this and can't seem to find any info that says it is genetic. The dog is 25mths old now, border collie. He was first diagnosed in early February. I questioned the first diagnosis of hip displasia, as I have had both parents hip xrayed and scored. Mums is 3:3 and dad is 0:0. How common his it for a dog to develop hip displasia when bred from parents with such good scores? Thanks for any answeres in advance.
  17. I've just moved to Bowen from WA and I'm looking for an obedience & agility club in the Bowen area. Would travel to Whitsundays or Burdekin if necessary. Does anyone know of any??
  18. I go to Midland on Tuesdays. I find it very good. The groups arn't too big and most of the instructors are very helpful.
  19. Midland would be closest. It's on Tuesday nights, beginners from 6:30. Not runningn during school holidays though, so next intake for beginners will be on 22/07/08. Take your vacc. certificate along for first timers and heaps of treats.
  20. I like the way your mind works!!
  21. Wow Harminee... that is really gorgeous!! Thank you soooo much.
  22. That would be lovely... thank you so much in advance.
  23. Harminee, do you think you could do one for me... they are just so lovely. You are a true angle. This is Ned. I'd like it to read; "Always in my heart"
  24. I have an 8week old border collie pup. she went to the vet for a general checkup and vaccination/microchip on saturday and the vet detected a very slight heart murmur. He explained that there is nothing really to worry about at this stage as puppies occasionally do have heart murmurs, as the heart function inside the uterus is quite different as to outside in the real world. He suggested a checkup in a few weeks to see if there has been any change. He said that often these things sort themselves out as the pup gets a little older. She is otherwise a totally healthy, full of life, little ball of fluff. Have any of you had puppies with heart murmurs and has the problem rectified its self? Or should I seek a second oppinion from another vet?
