  1. UPDATE: 1PM Internal Affairs officers are investigating whether owners of a dog shot dead by police last night had deliberately set their canines on the police dog. Acting assistant commissioner Tony Flack said Gosnells police shot two dogs when they ran from the rear of the Wanaping Road house in Kenwick about 11pm yesterday and attacked their dog, Rumble, who was on a leash. “One of these [dogs] has taken the police dog by the throat while the second has taken the police dog by the rear leg,” Det-Supt Flack said. “What is not known at this time is whether the dogs were deliberately set upon the police officers or the dog and how they came to come from the rear to the front.” He said police went to the home when the resident asked for people to be removed from the house. Dog owner Jordan Mead, 19, said he was upset police shot his staffy x boxer named Tiger. “I’ve had him for six years, since he was a puppy,” he said. Mr Mead said he warned police not to get Rumble out of the car because it would spark a stand-off between the canines. “He should not have brought the dog out of the car because as soon as he did my dog came flying out the gate and went straight for their dog.” Mr Mead said Tiger was trying to “protect his pregnant wife”, another dog named Zena, who was also shot in the incident. Both Zena and Rumble are undergoing surgery in Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital, they are in stable conditions. Rumble’s injuries included a puncture wound to his neck and lacerations and bite wounds to his front right leg. Det-Supt Flack said the internal affairs unit would investigate whether the use of police weapons was lawful and whether it complied with police regulation. “The internal affairs unit will now look at the circumstances of this event and look at whether the use of the firearm was warranted and we will also look at how and why the police dog was deployed at the scene,” he said. “There is a duty of care for police to protect the police dog and we’ll also be looking at how that duty of care was enacted.” Mr Mead was upset shots were fired very near to where his three young sisters, all aged under 12, were standing. “Nobody has been injured by a ricochet or discharge,” Det-Supt Flack said. No charges have been laid at this stage. Rumble at Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital.
  2. just to see one latch onto a robbers nuts and swing like a tick would be gold!
  3. I'm certainly not judging IMO the dogs have a natural prey drive/ and or love of swimming and chasing, Really what is a shark to a dog? Just a big fish to chase or try to catch. People knowing the danger sharks can pose and not being concerned is another thing.
  4. Amazing, I watched a vid a few years ago of a dog jumping out of a boat and catching a shark.
  5. I hadn't seen that one before, but as in nearly everything, what is old will be new again at some point
  6. Can I ask what purpose is in stealing horse rugs? I don't have anything to do with horses, I can't understand or even imagin what that would be done for? My imagination has been running wild thinking about hobo's trying to stay warm etc.
  7. Ugh I bought that VIP roll only once, it stank my house out when I cut it open, threw it out straight away it smelled so toxic, I reckon they must have left it sit in the sun or something it sure was rancid.
  8. Some fantastic info on dingoes sorry it's linked to another forum, hope it's ok, its some of the best condensed info I have seen all in one place. http://www.carnivoraforum.com/index.cgi?board=canine&action=print&thread=924 OT I know the topic's not about dingoes, I just got carried away I love them.
  9. Heres the PDF on the dna origin of the dingo that I read. http://www.pnas.org/content/101/33/12387.full.pdf
  10. Dingoe(Australian) has origins from domesticated asian dogs which were probably from a now extinct asian wolf. A huge genome study was done on it a few years back.
  11. And vets like the chesty bonds wannabe pushing this stuff. Poor dog.
  12. I know german hunt terrier and spanish mastiff. cool beans.
  13. Any that have been recognised and accepted by ankc in the last 5 years.
  14. Just a general query about how many new breeds of dog have been accepted by the ANKC in the last 5 years if any one has the facts on this.
  15. Oh perhaps a soft muzzle as well, a dog in pain can bite someone tending it. If not a muzzle in the kit then a soft strong cord so you can make a J loop around the mouth instead. 1 needing first aid, is better than 2 needing first aid
  16. Better a dog having a quick sniff of a a crotch than a pat down grab fest.. Civil libertarians I'm all for civil liberties, but some things just stretch reason.
  17. Start with an off the shelf human first aid kit, then add a tick remover, I cant think of anything else apart from dog/cat medications. Unless you expect/ environmental hazards from serious injuries such as a dog being ripped up by a wild animal then something like a surgical stapler etc.
  18. What this clown fails to under stand is there is a cut off point to council leased land by cafe owners on the foot path, if they are leased in the first place at all. So it makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things with dogs being out the front of cafe's People can still take dogs and have a brew, even if local laws are changed but just not in the area cordoned of by plastic and metal signs promoting brands of coffee, such as ???? or the cafe's name. This clown is just full of crap conditioned by people who rarely become part of a community spirit, or is that person himself, and every rate payer paying $4 for a coffee when taking a walk with a dog knows it. Just another pollywaffle IMO.
  19. The greens, or a numpty in the greens? Their is a lot of non cost effective deterrents within all services. Doesn't mean they don't have a place.
  20. Lets hope no sparrows fly overhead an shit in his coffee when he's chilling out like a botoxed pelican in Hastings street eh Knob.
  21. I read NZ herald report and apparently the guy who owned the attacking dog was trying to leave . A Bunch of people from the shops stopped him. Anyway that's what that paper said. I hope Perry makes a full recovery and has the great temperament to not be out of a job.
  22. What sort of checks and balances are done in case council get hold of the wrong dog? Ie two brindle bull type dogs missing at the same time. This is what freaks me out if my dog ever escapes, mistaken identity and blamed for doing things she hasn't done. I hope the offending dog is found quick, definatly not good to have a dog like that wandering around.
  23. how to traverse one, don't fight against them.
  24. Not me, I think I posted in a thread a couple years back when a woman drowned in similar situation why Though if i remember correctly it was a swollen river. Dogs usually survive undertow and rip currents just fine, but people don't unless they are very good swimmers and know how to traverse one. Knee jerk emotion can rule out over a risk management breather though I understand that. I feel sorry for the guys family, and I hope he wasnt part of the dol family that would be very sad to know.
