COUNCIL officers are being threatened by dog owners, with one already bitten, as a state-wide crackdown on restricted breeds gets under way. Municipal Association of Victoria chief executive Rob Spence said some inspectors would need police support to seize American pit bulls, with councils inundated by reports of dangerous dogs. “There have been some comments coming back to officers that have been threatening if they went into locations they wouldn’t be safe,” Mr Spence said. He said staff had reported physical threats after trying to enter properties in outer Melbourne to confirm reports of restricted breed dogs. A pit bull attacked a Brimbank Council officer in Sydenham on Monday as he attempted to collect it to put it down. He suffered hand and chest wounds but paramedics said the 36-year-old wasn’t seriously injured. From Friday, any unregistered pit bull, pit bull cross or other restricted breed dog found will be destroyed under a crackdown on dangerous dogs, after the tragic death of Ayen Chol, 4, in St Albans last month. Mr Spence said he had met with Agriculture Minister Peter Walsh’s advisors to help secure police support for council officers who had an obligation to seize dangerous dogs after Friday. “You wouldn’t expect council officers to go into environments where it’s potentially not safe,” he said. He said uniform guidelines needed to be developed to help council officers identify the restricted breed. “I suspect a lot of people don’t know whether they’ve got American Staffies or pit bulls and it’s up to council officers to identify them,” he said. Some councils are overloaded with reports of restricted breeds with 270 people in Hume queuing to have their dogs assessed. Mr Spence said people were ringing councils directly rather using the State Government hotline to report dangerous dogs. He urged owners to register their pets before the amnesty on registering dangerous dogs ended on September 29. “I’d suggest anyone who hasn’t had their dog registered pull your finger out and register it,” he said. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/council-officers-attacked-by-dangerous-dogs/story-fn7x8me2-1226148603613

I transported a pup clipped into a seatbelt with a harness for my friend, it done a massive diarrhoea poo on my back seat I would definitely recommend a crate for that reason.

Cavoodle puppies at Billabong Creek Farm near Taralgon. Herald Sun AUSTRALIA'S soon-to-be First Pet may think he's a cavoodle, but he's yet to discover he is actually a little Bulldog. News Prime Minister Julia Gillard is to be presented with a puppy for her 50th birthday has already brought the perks of office to the prized pooch. The Western Bulldogs will sign up its No.1 female ticket holder's new hound as a pet member. And with honorary membership comes his little pet supporter's pack, complete with travel water bowl and "Bulldog in Disguise" sticker for the rear window of Comm car 1. Just a month old, it will be five weeks before 'Little Monkey", as he's known by his breeders, leaves his brothers and sisters in Gippsland to take up residence at The Lodge. The pet is a present from Ms Gillard's partner, Tim Mathieson. Cavoodles can sell for about $1500. Born to mum Ying, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and sired by Neelix, a miniature poodle, the pup is likely to grow up enjoying a dip in the property's pool. "Poodles are water spaniels and Little Monkey will probably be a keen swimmer," said Liz Seear, from Billabong Creek Farm. She said the designer dog was perfect for the busy power couple. "They are the sort of people pets who don't care who is minding them so long as there is someone there to play with," Ms Seear said. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/a-little-monkey-business-at-the-lodge/story-fn7x8me2-1226148467277

Ahhh f##$ it im not Vic i wont bother giving a S#!* anymore. I went out of my way to contact geelong Council for clarification on AST and SBT for geelong people who would not/couldn't be f***ed to contact themselves. Even if they are "guests' viewing I hope it helps, Dol warriors saying the sky is falling for you or gasp people with unpapered asts and sbt's don't mean anything. even within their own flock.

Nice pic, I don't buy into the cropping debate, I have read many pros for it other than for aesthetic human vanity though. many negs for it too. Aus is a mute point I wont begrudge the cropped Amstaffs that are imported.

Dangerous Dog Legislation Is Not The Whole Answer
GeckoTree replied to tybrax's topic in In The News
Wow that's a really informative comment... NOT. What are you talking about? What exactly doesn't seem right? I know we all like complaining about the fact pitbull and subjective "crosses" are being outlawed, but seriously nothing is going to stop it... These dogs are going to be wiped out in this country, its just a matter of time. I am just thankful that they haven't yet targeted my favorite breeds of dogs, which BTW are every bit as subjectively dangerous as pitbulls if raised inappropriately. The government loves banning stuff based on knee jerk reactions not grounded in balanced reasoning. Its not going to change any time soon. I have given up. The government will make whatever stupid laws it likes based on exaggerated media stances. What really scares me is if we get a few well publicized attacks by rottweilers, bullmastiffs and other breeds owned by irresponsible owners, then the government may massively expand the banned dogs list. Maybe they may outlaw all dogs altogether. Just because dogs have been man's oldest domesticated animal companions, going back around 20,000 years, before even cattle and livestock, hell let this know it all government ban them. Wow Tybrax has been more informative than ever of your entire 39 posts of doling. If you cant see the Forrest for the trees piss off stop taking cracks at people with a massive background at a grass root level of BSL fighting.. You could only dream of having the stamina of fighting BSL she has. Talk all .. -
I hope the situation in Vic becomes so hysterical people actually stand up for themselves instead of taking it in the ass like they always seem to do.

I am going to go to the meeting if possible. There has been another letter issued after the original one, and it explains further about what is going on. The new letter states how a person can get a vet certificate as to breed. The new letter also said to disregard the first letter. I will try to attack a link to the second letter. second letter I don't know, but it seems to me the meeting is to explain things more fully to residents. Will have to wait and see I suppose. Can you make that public access, I don't have a fb account to log in with.

you would have to be the unluckiest person in SA to get fined for it. Or anywhere actually. It would be about $25 in SA if I remember correctly. And see if you can run him on the grass, better for the feet. -
Dear ****** In response to your email I advise that the following breed of dogs are deemed restricted breed in Victoria: American Pitbull Terrier or Pitbull Terrier American Pitbull or Pitbull Terrier cross Dogo Argentino Fila Brasileiro Japanese Tosa Perro de Presa Cario or Presa Canario American Staffordshire Terriers or Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not restricted breed dogs, however if an authorised officer has doubts about the breed of any American Staffordshire or American Staffordshire Cross dog in line with guidelines for the appearance and characteristics of a pitbull as outlined in the Domestic Animals Act the owner of that dog will be required to provide proof of the breed by producing one of the following: a pedigree certificate from the Australian National Kennel Council; a pedigree certificate from a member body of the Australian National Kennel Council; a pedigree certificate from a national breed council registered with the Australian Kennel Council; or a certificate signed by a veterinary practitioner stating, or to the effect, that the dog is of a particular breed. If you require any further information about the new legislation please follow the following links: www.dpi.vic.gov.au/animalwelfare - department of primary industries www.legislation.vic.gov.au - click on 'law today' then select Acts beginning with 'D' this will take you to the Domestic Animals Act www.gazette.vic.gov.au/ - this link will take you to the Government Gazette which publicised the new legislation on 1 September 2011. I hope this information assists in answering your query. regards Jeanette Jeanette Guinane [email protected]

IMO the lamb should go to a non dog beach, I doubt any bylaw exists for having a lamb on a beach. But at a dog beach is inviting trouble. -
