How To Become More Interesting
Tassie replied to Obi246's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nicely said, huski. This sort of excited involvement with the dog in the training process is one of the key things I've learnt from various gurus - including some of the ones here (like bedazzledx2 and Ptolomy). I think it's the high excitement and the delighted involvement of the trainer that makes the jackpot so valuable - not the intrinsic value of the jackpot itself. My jackpots will more often be a rapid fire delivery of maybe 3 or 4 or 5 small treats in quick succession - dog doesn't actually get a lot of extra food, but gets a heap of extra delighted attention. I find it one of the hardest things in helping other people, to get them to be animated and really connecting with their dogs. So many just seem to go through the motions - and then wonder why the dog is doing just that. I really like what bedazzledx2 wrote about the release(s) - that's an important part of the training process that we often forget about, or forget to be consistent about. -
- we need a Gotcha Day emoticon - but this will do. Goodness that time has gone quickly - for us anyway ;-)

We're usually lucky down here, too HW - but as has been said, it's a matter of feeling your way round, and choosing your friends carefully. Sometimes it's fun to just sit back and watch some of the rivalries. I should say that showing is not my main or even preferred activitiy - I'm a performance person at heart. To the OP - I think your experience was a little unusual in that comments apparently came from people officiating on the day - but it is worth scouting around for a while, with your eyes and ears open, and a large quantity of salt at hand. :) People can get quite upset sometimes if the judge on the day prefers another type, or another dog - but as far as I'm concerned - it's the judge's opinion. I still always take the best dog home  - but it's lovely to be able to admire other beautiful dogs.

That all sounds so positive, PA - well done to you and Luke, and the Scooter man. -
Great that she's all good again today - hope that is the end of it. But just in case it was a seizure - it would be worth making a detailed note of what happened, when, duration - anything else you noticed. Just in case (Dog forbid) it ever happens again.)

Mine has been shipped. Lovely email from CR - they are not is an area of major storm damage, so all is good. And they have had a good response from OZ - they said the great response they had last year ( ) was one reason why they did the toy free shipping this year. :D (Captive sucker market ) -

@ milacon - have a look at Lesie McDevitt and her Control Unleashed programs - LAT fits in there. And you could probably find some DOL threads in the search function. :) -

My account said 'shipped' yesterday, but overnight got an email to say the Wubba Ballistics were out of stock till the end of November. Gave me 3 options - wait - ship the rest of the order now and get a credit or replace it with a Wubba Wubba or a Wubba Friend. Chose the latter - the Ballistic was only to see what they were like - and Kirra's rabbit Wubba Friend is looking a bit second hand (unsurprisingly) so she can have a new Friend. :D -
Congratulations! Bo looked great out there.

Just saw this. Condolences to you - he sounded as though he was a very brave dog - and you did everything you could for him, including that final gift of release that we can give to our beloved friends. Thank you for sharing his story. -
If you have any Polaramine or something similar, you can try that if he seems to need it - European wasps can (unlike a bee) sting multiple times - and it really, really hurts. Can you tell I don't like them.

Just home from 2 days of agility trials at Hobart Royal (ears still ringing from PA, stunt motorbikes and ute parade  ). Just had to have a brag on my little BC Kirra, who at the age of 10.75 years, has added a multiplier to her ADO (takes it to ADO4) and her ADM (will be ADM3). We had 6 nice Qs out of 12 runs, and only 3 DQs - probably our lowest DQ percentage ever  . I had her checked out a week ago by a holistic vet who does massage and acupuncture - and he's given her the all clear to keep running as long as she wants to. She did have an acupuncture treatment, which she enjoyed - and today at the show, she had a blissful sesion with the Equissage people - she remembered them from last year, and enjoyed the electro massage just as much. Had to share my pride in my little feral  . Oh, and my handling must be improving a bit - she only nipped me once for bad handling .

ANKC no - unless they're registered with either the ANKC or a recognised Working Sheep Dog Association, in which case they can go on the ANKC Sporting Register. They couild go on the Associate Register - but only if they're desexed. Not sure about the other venues - ADAA? And you might like to refer your sister to the sick BC puppy thread My link At the very least, your sister should get these dogs tested for the three main diseases/defects they couild pass on. I'm assuming the parents haven't been tested. I'm biting my tongue, because you've obviously said your piece.

Lovely dogs. :) Great that CFS popped in :D . And I would just add (based on a friend's experience) - if you're not entirely happy with the general vet's solutions, it might be worth getting a specialist opinion. As piper says - there may be things going on inside the bitch - maybe structural and fixable) which will mean the Propalin is not fully effective. And congrats for being brave - and for sticking with DOL. We/they occasionally get a little heated, but used wisely, it's a great source of information, experience and support when you need it. :D

And for anyone reading this as a general thread - can I put in a warning about the tubers of dahlias. they are not supposed to be poisonous, but were the only strange things my previous BC boy had access to when accidentally shut in the garage for an hour - and they killed him . Sever neurotoxin. Daffodil bulbs are poisonous too I think.

@ Faolmor Forgot about Strahan -I should confess that in 40 years living here I've never been over to the West Coast - or the far North West or North East for that matter. They're onmy one-day list :)
