  1. Sore earwould likely make her feel pretty miserable, Kavik - hope that's all it is - and that the kids are better today. :)
  2. Congrats TSD and TO. Sounds like you both did really well in spite of the conditions. Loved that lightbulb moment with Em TSD. Our last agility trial for the year on . Only one Q (ADO) for Kirra, but again some near misses and done feel good runs. Contacts were all good, but weavers apparently only have 10 poles atm :-). But hey at her age, enjoying 8 runs and pulling up fine is all I can ask :-) ET fix typos
  3. Great news! And it's lovely that she's healing well too, bless her.
  4. Nic I don't think any of us is realistic and logical about our lovely dogs - know I'm not. But very good to hear she's home safe with you. That means such a lot. :D
  5. Well done on the title and the Intermediate pass. Sounds like it was a great weekend - and Schatzi and you did well in spite of the travel and new surroundings etc. :D
  6. to you and the girls CC. Especially to the brilliant Violet - what a performance. :D
  7. i don't think there are any options. The entry form requires, as has been said, the dog's name as per the Certificate of Registration (whichever register). For a pure-bred dog, that will include the breeder's prefix. The name on the entry form is what will go into the caatalogue, and then on to the Qually cards :D , and then on the title, and back onto the Certificaate of Registration. Official name and number can't change.
  8. You could try Croydon Croydon Obedience. Or maybe try PMing JulesP - she might have some ideas.
  9. Funny  In Em's early training she would blind cross me for the weaves! I've been fortunate to have great foundation training for my dogs so they are now "handler sucks." The slightest hesitation or poorly timed cue on my part sends them off course. That's a lot of pressure   TSD - Kirra used to be a real weave suck - now it's contacts :D . And I so know what you mean about the pressure. She's still hair trigger - a fraction early and she'll come off an obstacle and cop a refusl - or pull a bar - a fraction late and she'll off course, or drop a bar ..... and it's all my fault, bless her. And just to add to the pressure of her expectations, if I'm handling really poorly, she'll nip me to prompt me to get my act together. Love my little feral!
  10. Lol ..about the 5.5 year old youngster. Tunnel suck is what agility competitors face when dogs have such high value and strong reward history for the tunnel that they will take it whenever they can, regardless of what ths handler is indicating :-). Some dogs have contact suck (mine ;-) .
  11. I do tunnel stuff with the yellow tunnel like yours in puppy class at dog club (when I can get the tunnel) - did it Sunday. As has been said, scrunch it right up, make it secure, and then get a helper to do a restrained recall through the tunnel - I hold the pups and have the handler go to the other end - and if necessary alost crawl into the tunnel - luring with food. I ask them to have a big party as the dog comes out of the tunnel, and feed/play when the dog feet are on the grass. Usually after a couple of goes, I get the handler to rund back down to the end of the tunnel calling the pup, as soon as they've given the pup to me - some of the pups were already beating the handler to the end :D A couple of runs at the short length, and if that goes well, then gradually lengthen the tunnel - about 3/4 metre/1 metre at a time - still straight. Caution! While it's heaps of fun and the dogs love it - be careful not to do too many at a time - or you'll create the dreaded tunnel suck. megan_ had great advice. The key thing in agility is the foundation training - Greg Derrett describes agility as running with your dog - the obstacles are just that - speed bumps to be negotiated. I worry that people get so fixated on having their dogs play with the obstacles, that they're not prepared to put in the essential foundations, and the dogs will never be as good as they could be. People also are not prepared often to do the foundation jumping work, which creates an independent, thinking jumper. There are some great foundation training dvds out there - Mary Ellen Barry - Foundation Fundamentsls, The Focussed Puppy, the Moe Strenfel one, Susan Garrett's 2x2 weaves, and the Susan Salo jumping ones - just to name a few of my favourites. Not sure how young your dogs are, but they need to be about 12 months IMHO before they're doing much on the equipment, other than on the ground contact trainers. I should have prefaced this by saying that I tend to be a bit super-cautious. I want my dogs competing and able to enjoy their agility for a long time - my BC girl is still competing well in Masters at 10 and 3/4. :D We've been lucky.
  12. Yes, showdog - forgot to add the crate trained bit. Mine travel in large wirecrates in the car - safety, comfort, water available all the time - and can pack stuff around them. Excellent tips about the chips and documents, and the ID card. ET add - and I carry folding soft crates for them to sleep in in the dog-friendly accommodation. They LOVE their crates :D
  13. I've driven across to Perth once, and up to Queensland a few times with 2 Border Collies. Mine love travelling - well - they love sleeping as soon as we hit the highway. :) There are increasing numbers of places where you can stay with dogs - we always try for dogs inside (spoilt dogs), but they're happy to sleep in the car outside motels if necessary - and if you're camping or motorhoming, it's even easier. There are often kennels where you can board dogs if you wntt to trAvel in National Parks. Doing your homework ahead of time is a good idea - including checking for dangers like dingoes, crocs, ticks, snakes, as well as for vet hospitals in case of emergency. My lovely vet helped me with a first aid kit, including some emergency meds for things like vomiting, especially for that Nullarbor stretch. For some dogs, water can be an issue. I'm lucky in that mine seem to be able to cope with the local water wherever we go, but if in doubt, carrying some of your home water, or bottled water, is a good idea. Wherever we go, we meet lots of people travelling with their dogs.
  14. Oh RV, I'm so terribly sorry to read this. Can imagine how devaststed you are, having lost my previous boy Fergus suddenly and way too young. Will give my kids extra cuddles tonight for you and the gorgeous Toby.
  15. Picked up my second order from Post Office today (they found it filed under the sender's name ????). It had been opened but passed by quarantine - maybe because of the very strong smell from the foam balls  . This order was mostly the bulk supplies of things which I hope the dog club will agree to use as prizes - otherwise I will have a lifetime supply .
  16. Now, have you proofed your dog sufficiently against that? Have fun guys.
  17. Got note in the mailbox today - raced down to PO to pick up my CR parcel - and they can't find it  . Hopefully it's still in the driver's truck - they're going to call me when they find it. Now I have to wait till Friday, probably .
  18. No more DWD for us this year. But like luvsdogs and kallistart, wishing good luck to those entered in Queensland and Vic this weekend. :D
  19. Yep - speed thing with my BC male. I have to almost power walk to get him trotting on most walks.
  20. HugL Posted 21 November 2012 - 09:34 AM If it was a Dogs Queensland sanctioned show, then contact Dogs Queensland for their aggressive dog incident report protocol. If their regs are like other states, a report should already have gone in, and possibly a hearing already held at the show. But since you were not in a position to make a statement at the time, you should seek to make one now IMHO.
  21. At the moment - happy with CC Black on Black, and PP White (can't remember exactly what it's called.) But yes, different shampoos suit different coats. Oh, and as you know PME, Rory doesn't have as much white as a lot of BCs.
  22. You could always get a chicken wing or something like that, and wrap it in lots and lots of paper, so she can have the fun of ripping the package to shreds . And then she can have all the fun of her toys later. :D My second order has cleared customs in OZ, so hoping it will get down here before tooooo long.

  24. PME I can't tell you how jealous I am of you being near enough to Kepala to go often. It's a brilliant set up
