It's good that you're starting your search now. Key thing to avoid with a Border Collie puppy is a class which allows puppy free for alls. A lot of dogs, including Border Collies, can be really put off by that. And be sure you come over to the Border Collie thread in the Breed Sub Forums in General, and introduce your new arrival. :D Border Collie thread

PME -great stuff with your two. Wish someone would blow those sit stays up - BC nightmare  . Maybe the rule change .....

So sad that you lost your Shandy, CC - always hard. But congratulations on your achievements with Zim - and looking forward to hearing more about your new little one. :D

You could use a target stick .. maybe getting her to work out wide, but level with you if that makes sense .. rewarding frequently for staying level. Then gradually bring the target stick in closer to you. Be careful only to reward level or even slightly ahead of you, and reward forward. I'd suggest you don't use your heel cue while you're doing this .. she doesn't know what heel is yet. I'd be starting to teach it the way I would teach a puppy .. including just rewarding a static good heel position. Little bits of high energy, heavily rewarded stiff is good. Toy reward is good too, if she likes toys. Check out Denise Fenzi's blog articles.

So good to read these updates .. Lovely for you and Stella. -
My goodness ... a year already. But what a wonderful update. Having lost my first BC boy to IMHA, I've been following your journey with with great interest and increasing hope. You and your vets have done a fantastic job to bring him back to this happy cheeky absolutely gorgeous little man. Thanks so much for sharing that journey, and cheeky Louis with us.

Brilliant - thanks so much TSD. That's just the sort of thing I'm after. We're actually looking at it for obedience and Rally as well - our trials are very small, so it should be doable.

Hi guys - some questions for you folk that are lucky enough to have NFC offered. I'd be really gratefully if anyone can give me some info on - how/when NFC runs are offered in the structure of the trial - when are entries done, are they advertised ahead etc., cost? - what conditions apply - e.g..toys allowed? - does it have to be negotiated with the judges ahead of time? - did the NFC thing have to go through Dogs Vic, Dogs West etc. first? We are looking at doing NFC down here, and what to get our ducks lined up first

What a great weekend with your kids and your part timer xena98. RAE is fun, isn't it - if a bit tiring and challenging. (I'm always wishing I'd trained both dogs with the same cues - judge was cracking up yesterday as I was trying to remember which cue belonged to which dog  . My two did well in Rally yesterday morning - and Rory even better in the afternoon. Kirra, after turning in one of her est performances (83 Advanced, 87 Excellent - good for her), was in a "don't wanna, don't hafta" mood in the afternoon - bless her. Rory was Mr consistency - 96 in both in the am, and then 96 in Excellent, and 100 in Advanced - good boy - all first places for him - so I have $40 worth of Bunnings vouchers :D . So Kirra has 3 legs towards RAE2, and Rory has 2 towards RAE4. Love that you can multiply - and that like agility, the courses are all slightly different, so you really have to keep your wits about you.

That's super exciting Sayreovi . Isn't it fun when it all comes together - especially when you don't have access to regular training (know what that feels like)! Now you know you can both do it, there'll be no stopping you. Oh - and Miss Kirra says - feral is GOOD!

DOLer aidan2 is in southern Tasmania..... might be able to help, but he would probably want to know the result of the bloods and any other vet checks... Be worth PMing him.

Happy surgeon is always good. He should feel much more comfortable pretty soon. Best wishes for no razor rash .. and for really good recovery for your very handsome lad. :)

Tess. A great age for a big dog - and your presents look super. (Had to laugh when I read the topic heading - thought it was going to be about naughty teenage behavious - but my nearly 12.5 year old BC Kirra says that older ladies can do whatever they like .

Correct Posture For Running Agility
Tassie replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nice videos. Yes, I'da gree - not that I've been doing any of the new stuff - but when you watch, say Susan Garrett running Feature in WAO, it's the same sort of thing - basically normal running posture, but bending to give a clear indication - e.g. of a tunnel, or of the correct path where there is an off course option - that shows in the Shae up one, and in Vickie's. Jess. ... that's how I am with the misguided missile. I have to be moving (not sure I'd call what I do running), fairly upright so I can both set the line for him, and see where I need to get to. But I agree, you can't tell some people. -

Do it Tassie, would love to catch up with you and see your kids dance again.. I might even get my butt into gear and get my routine happening, if you come over. And yes it would be so worth your while to come, double dwd comp and then obedience and rally the next day at Broady. Seriously thinking about it, kallistar. I'll see how the kittens go with their first weekend on the cattery this coming weekend. Don't want to impose too much on my lovely neighbour's kindness in kitten sitting. We'll have to egg each other on to get it happening :D . It would be lovely to catch up with you again. -
If you're buying an ANKC registered pup from an ANKC breeder, I would be asking for the registration certificate with the transfer signed over to you. To nee that means if you decide later that you want to do performance disciplines with the digg, the dog is already registered. In snug case, I would be expecting to have at last a 3 generation pedigree...parents, grandparents, great grandparents. For my younger boy, I have his breeder as the second contact on the microchip papers ..I've done the same with my new kittens. Depending when the breeder registers the litter, there may be a wait of a couple of weeks for the ANKC papers to come though to you. The bree may have waited until the litter were at least 8 weeks old to make a decision about which pups were sufficiently promising to be put on the Main Register. At last in some states now, the Limited Register (pink) pedigree certificates hand stamped across then Not for Breeding or Export.

Sorry ...couldn't help laughing. Poor lad. Hope he's OK.
