Fast Foster Home Needed For Elderly Chi
Tassie replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gotta love it when a cunning plan comes together! Well done! -
Oh Jules - coming into this very late - but it's sounding more promising. And good Poppy for helping Amber eat. Chasing magpies sounds good. So hope this is just a little blip. You could be right about the shaking being connected with build up of toxins. You've helped Amber to become a record survivor .. and to have a wonderful life ... including market trips and river paddles :) ... here's hoping she'll keep breaking records. Healing thoughts and strength coming across Bass Strait.

What a brave and good decision to make for your Gracie. She was a lucky girl to have a loving and caring human and sounds like a great vet team. Treasure the memories.

Good old Hobbes .. tough boy coming through the surgery so well. Good on you for giving him a chance. Fingers and paws crossed for good result.

Naawww bless her.

And from what I can see, Ivory Coat is a much higher protein %age .. 36 is way too high for my two .. so I'll stick with BH .. just about to buy new bags, will be interesting to see price and hopefully they won't be crumbly . not that the dogs would care.

Sounds like the mother and daughter team did well at agility. Nice one .. and love the pic of the two of them. Soooo pretty.

You'll find the information about the DOL meets in the DOL social events forum here. One of the two dogs I had with me the time I went was somewhat dog-reactive (BC), but the other DOLers were great in making room for him - he was able to enjoy that lagoon pool, and also to have runs in the sand run and the grass runs. It's probably just as well I live on the other side of Bass Strait, or I'd definitely be a frequent Kepala user.

Went to a DOL meet at Kepala when I was over in Melbourne at the right time .. years ago now, but I still remember what a great place it is. And of course when I went, all the dog owners were great as it was a DOL meet :D .

Travelled up to Queensland to attend a Kamal workshop - the same one bedazzledx2 went to (and have a private lesson) ..so much great information. And lots of fun. Highly recommended!!!! I've audited several of his online courses too .. also well worth it.

Don't have to explain your relief to us, kirty .. we're feeling it for you. :) Hope the dear girl slept well, and that she and the others are all doing well today.
-
Yay! That will be so good for both you and Pudding.
-
Congratulations dezzyno.1. That's very exciting ..and perfect timing. Nice to have the extra TSD trials. Good luck with those and with the showing.
-
Sounding more hopeful. Fingers and paws crossed Pudding keeps improving, and that you can get some sleep tonight, kitty.
-
How horrible for you Kirty. But this morning's news sounds more encouraging. Fingers and paws crossed for all of them .. Pudding especially.

Thanks so much for that petaddress link. Lovely and easy to use. Just checked my dogs and cats .. and realised I needed to remove my landline number, since I gave it up when I got NBN. Discovered that when the kittens were registered with AAAR, the register changed the second contact for my BC (had been his breeder in WA). They'd done that without checking me, which was a bit weird. Maybe just trying to be helpful and making the second contact for him the same as for the cats (their breeder). Luckily, she is OK with that.

Play pen to contain puppy so that the older dog can relax a bit until he gets used to the youngster .. useful anyway .. can have bed, safe toys, stuffed Kong, and pee pads or newspaper for when you can't supervise.

How To Get Your Dog To Take Pills
Tassie replied to Yonjuro's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes .. another fan of the mince ball trick. Works particularly well if you have more than one dog .. although I did panic on one occasion when I gave one dog's Oroxine tablets (she was on a high dose) to the wrong dog .. panic phone call to my lovely vet .. but no ill effects. My hypothyroid girl was on tablets twice daily, and both the dogs got mince balls. The boy I had then did therapy dog work in nursing homes and a palliative care ward. He got quite excited when he heard the meds trolley coming  , though he would always look rather puzzled that the residents didn't get mince balls with their tablets. -
He looks amazing .. and looks as though he's enjoying his party :D
-
Love the photo .. and what a lovely party for dogs and humans. :D

The champagne is for your mum, birthday boy. She's earned it. Hoppe he's enjoyed your birthday too.

This is my preferred strategy. I say to people in my puppy class that they should be prepared to have some legitimate chew object within easy reach all the time when the pups are going through this stage .. could be just a cardboard roll from a paper towel or something like that. I use an interrupt noise .. guttural uhuh, and then produce the approved chew object, waggling a bit if necessary, and having a little play with it with the puppy. This is in line with the general training principles of showing the pup what you do want and rewarding it. And redirecting pup from an inappropriate behaviour to an appropriate one. As well as this, it's important to be teaching pups to chill, and making sure people playing with the pup are not amping the pup up to the stage where pup can't think. So acting all sad and withdrawing attention for a while can be useful too.

They definitely do grieve, and are like people, in that some show it more than others. You have recognised it, but as others have said, you'll just have to play it by ear. Sticking with routine is good, but also maybe going to different places for walks occasionally can help. When my previous BC boy died suddenly at age 6, it was very hard on my BC girl, who was only 7 weeks younger than the boy. And watching their grief makes it harder for us. I did get another pup within 3 months (he was just meant to be mine), but that was for me rather than specifically for her. Some people find that something like Rescue Remedy, or one of the herbal remedies can help if a pet seems not to be coping, but I'd just see how she goes for a week or so. Hope the humans are coping OK.

All I can say is .... make sure your camera batteries are nice and fresh. We'll be expecting lots of photos. And how very exciting. And I'm no good at guessing, so I'll just be patient and wait and see,.

Darn Bass Strait .. but hope Melbourne folks support it.
